It's not the Oly season yet! Relax. :) Otherwise, I keep worrying about you till Feb 2018. Let me save some energy for Shoma and Mao, please.

J-Nats is in the week of Christmas as usual. Schedule are (Japan time):
Fri, Dec 23 Men SP 17:25-21:15
Sat, Dec 24 Ladies SP 13:45-17:35 / Men Free 17:55-21:45
Sun, Dec 25 Ladies Free 16:05-19:40 / Announcement of teams for Jr Worlds, 4CC, Worlds

Come olympic season I'm probably dead from tension or eating too many pillows! ;) Nice, I'm going to watch Nationals and celebrate Christmas at the same time, ha! I don't have to be nervous for Nationals at least. Silver, it should be.

I still laugh so much at this. In the complete clip, the look on Javi's face is hilarious, like he's saying "WHAT the heck is so funny?!" And Yuzu laughs so hard that he bends over at the waist, so Shoma bows because he thinks Yuzu is bowing...Honestly, these two are like a comedy routine when they get together.
Def. It could be one of the most hilarious moments in the sport history.

Here a funny Shoma moment at Gala (from Yuzu fan feast, credit to Marin who first posted it). Hope you enjoy!

Yes. HERE.

Kudos to the cameraman who took these shots! Seriously. I couldn't stop laughing at first.

He said he did cry after the performance. He had lots of hard times since arriving in France. But he eventually made it. He was overwhelmed by emotions after he finished his FS. The interview is here: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x54ypqw_yuzuru-satoko-shoma_sport

Now im back and watched his FS, I’m so moved. Yes, I see his tears. This performance is made of his efforts, his team and surroundings, and his fans from all over the world. To see his SP, so many people was worried about him, and so many Japanese there tweeted about his condition of practice after SP. During his performance, I feel so many people were watching and praying for him in the arena or before the screen…. Thus, his performance get more special and impressive one…

BTW, this interviewer, Matsuoka-san is very unique and famous person in yuzu's thread. he is good at drawing really interesting response from him. Now he got interviews for the three! i havent watched all though, i guess someone will give the whole translation about it!

He did a even better 4F at SA this year - light and easy.
His jumps at SA had a lightness and spring to them that I didn't see at other competitions. I think he was more relaxed there. Japan Open jumps were "springy" too. I liked the GPF ones though, just because his determination was so awesome...I think going first probably worked in his favor so he couldn't stand around and get nervous. Plus if he was hurting, it probably felt better to be warmed up.

So glad he cried afterwards! Such a sense of relief, I'm sure, just to let the emotions out! In the K & C he was getting misty eyed after he messed up the combo in the SP, and I kept thinking, "No, please don't cry!" I still remember Yuzu sitting in the K & C last year crying and saying "Why am I crying?!" The stress must be really tough.

You're doing the right thing Shoma kun! Please don't do any unnecessary quads! :noshake:

Very anxious to learn what they say in this interview. Hopefully the translation will be up somewhere. OT - Hamaguri, did you go to Kings on Ice?

To see his FP performance again and again, I have tears again and again… the female vocals are like a shout of his soul. He just kept fighting. I realized how a sincere attitude impresses people. He practiced too much. He truly wished to improve himself and one day he did 8 times run through of FP until he got a perfect performance! Anyway, his efforts didn’t betray him under such a hard condition (aside from a discussion of over training!) He got full mark at Ccosp at free! It seems rare in Men’s field (Stephane did it before.). Provably, im thinking of myself to see shoma. Living in another country which has totally different culture is still hard for me and Ive tried to behave positively, but sometimes I feel depressed so much and to be hard on myself. To see his shoma’s struggle and braveness, I get a lot of energy. Oh, you must go to the rink alone and perform although your condition is so bad and you can’t escape from it, such a horrible situation!

Loveliness of the three.

I try to explain more about Matuoka-san, Nobu and the three talk later. Around 8:10, Matsuoka-san says he couldn’t hear shoma’s voice before if they talked at such a distance.lol.

And I found another loveliness of Daisuke! (Around 6:00)

his analysis of Nationals. The fight between yuzu and shoma. He says if both has the perfect performances, yuzu will top over shoma. About jumps, yuzu’s jumps are better. Height, width, flow after landing… Shoma is power type jumper and he has height, but a bit lack the flow. But shoma has a chance to win. He says shoma has high skating skills and even if in latter half, he can keep his stamina and can capture audience’s hearts. It’s the fiscal point if shoma can make the audience on his side.

Have fun at "Kings on Ice"! Would love to hear your report afterwards, if you feel like sharing your experience. :)

Yes! It was fantastic! it was the first time show overseas. At the local city, people enjoyed the show which they had been waiting so long from bottom of their hearts. In Japan, show’s tickets are basically expensive and only limited people can go. But there, the tickets were reasonable price and so many audience cheered up for the skaters. Young people, family, children, old couples… It was so heartwarming. (in japan, taking photos and videos are strictly prohibited in competitions and shows. I could freely take them for the first time, and got lost whether I should take a video or watch on my eyes!)
Main skaters were Plushy, stephane, brian, Adelina, etc. I see your guys know well about how Stephane and Plushy are amazing, so I skip about them (lol). The skater who impressed me so much was Florent Amodio! I didn’t know well about him, since I got into figure skating after sochi and provably his peak was before sochi. His musicality, artistry, spin and steps! Further, it’s funny thing that I happened to find Amodio tweeted about shoma, praising or cheering for him after FP. I cant see any personal connection between them. Amodio felt something to see his performance? Or shoma was originally his favorite? I don’t know. But I confirm shoma is the skater who achieves both the technic and artistry at pretty high level. Pretty high! His artistry has uniqueness like Daisuke and cant help but attract us! Please please shoma, stay healthy and keep making us watch your performances!

Sounds like you had a wonderful time. And what an experience to see all those legends in the same arena. I am sure that was a difficult decision as to whether you should take photos or just watch the performance...I went to a folk dance show when I was in Romania and had so much fun. The tickets were reasonable and the crowd had so much fun cheering and clapping. The audience got so involved. I loved it!

I am pretty sure Florent and Shoma know each other, although I am not sure how well they are able to communicate! :) Florent participated in the Japan Open this year on Team Europe, and he was also in The Ice. I think he was the one who did the Dance Battle with Jason Brown...I know I am just slightly prejudiced, but I really do think Shoma has one of the most unique (if not THE most unique) programs of the season. And I think so many people thought he was too small, too young, too cherub faced, too fill in the blank to "pull it off". But I think he worked SUPER hard to get the right character of it. I want him to stay healthy so we can see him in the 2022 Olympics too. Just think, he will be an OLD man of 23 then! :cool14:

He is truly such a hard worker and I think it gives him a lot of self-confidence. There's nothing worse than to feel not fully prepared in such a high pressure situation. Of course this applies to many areas in life and I've heard several skaters say this as well.

Provably, im thinking of myself to see shoma. Living in another country which has totally different culture is still hard for me and Ive tried to behave positively, but sometimes I feel depressed so much and to be hard on myself. To see his shoma’s struggle and braveness, I get a lot of energy.

I hope you will be able to adjust to your new environment soon. I'm always impressed with people, who have the guts to leave their home country behind and start over in an environment completely different from the one they grew up in. A good friend of mine moved from Germany to Mexico after he met his now-wife during an internship. Of course it took him some time to get used to the culture, become fluent in Spanish and get over the homesickness, but now he seems so happy and fulfilled in his new life! From this thread I don't know much about your situation and if you moved to Czech Republic for good or for a limited timespan, but I really hope that you will get much better too or maybe even feel completely at home one day. :ghug:

Shoma has gotten so much better with interviews. I remember in his first appearance on Kenji's Room he was almost too shy to say anything at all and I think Kenji commented on the low volume of his voice as well. Or during that "boy's talk" with Nobu and Yuzu - these two did almost all of the talking, while Shoma was quietly listening (maybe wishing he wasn't there?) But look at him now: he's keeping eye-contact and seems comfortable and self-confident.

Thanks a bunch for this! I'm always happy to read translations of Dai's analyses and interviews!

Thx for your show report, sounds like it was a lot of fun! Even if I have seen Stéphane live, I'm always interested to hear people's impression of him. I've never seen Plushy myself, so I'm really unsure about him, because judging from TV his skating is not really my cup of tea, but everyone keeps saying that his charisma is so strong live that you can even feel it in the nosebleed-section. I saw Florent at Art on Ice in 2015 and will be seeing him again next year. He has that innate showmanship, that just draws you in, doesn't he? (And on a completely shallow note, another plus is that like many french male skaters he doesn't believe in illusion mesh and his costumes are often pretty revealing.) As you said, when you see him in shows his many qualities from steps, spins and jumps to presentation ability shine. It's such a shame that he was rarely able to put it all together when it counted though. I guess he peaked in 2011 when he won Euros. After 2013 he kind of fell into a slump, but probably had the skate of his life at Euros this year, which unfortunately was his swan song. (I'm still sad he didn't make the podium.) I wasn't aware he's such a fan of Shoma, but can totally see why he would be.

Did you meet other japanese fans at "Kings on Ice"? I remember you were asking about the high number of japanese skating enthusiasts in Switzerland: Yes, many of them were Dai fans, who flew all the way, because it's apparently easier for them to get tickets for swiss shows than for the ones in Japan. That's what I call dedication - I don't even wanna imagine how much money these trips must cost them. Many of them even attended the after-show parties at Art on Ice and the entrance fee to those exceeded the priciest show-ticket category quite a bit. Switzerland is insanely expensive in general - gotta work extra hard until February to cover all the additional costs. :drama:

Gosh, this reminds me of how Daisuke was introduced as an elder statesman at the Sochi Olympics at the age of 27.
But I must say, I have trouble imagining Shoma as an old man whatsoever. He will always be this tiny, baby-faced embodiment of cuteness in my mind, even when he'll be all grown-up.

8 times?! :jaw::shame: He is really a warrior. Chris from B ESP described him as "a strong, feisty guy". One thing we know for sure, he is not afraid of hard work! I find Dai's comments so interesting. I think he is confirming what people already know - Shoma and Yuzu are very different in their skating styles, and they each have their very own unique qualities.

Don't be too hard on yourself. :console: You haven't been in your new country for very long. Adjusting is so hard what with missing people, different language, different food, different everything. It's not easy! And don't forget, you always have your Golden Skate friends to talk to! :ghug:

Thank you again for your Kings on Ice report. I think you will go to many more shows/competitions and we look forward to hearing about them!

I was wrong. At the 2022 Olympics he'll be REALLY old (24, not 23!). But we will still be seeing him like this http://shoma-uno.tumblr.com/image/105270626902or better yet like this in our minds. http://shoma-uno.tumblr.com/image/123124353111. I really want to pinch those chubby little cheeks!!! These are so old but are so kawaii.

ETA: Just saw a little paragraph in the Japan Times about Shoma. Uno narrowly missed out on the runner-up spot and placed third for the second year running, but voiced satisfaction as he nailed all his jumps on the day to recover from fourth in the short skate.

“I went back to basics to be attack-minded, with no holdbacks,” the 18-year-old said. “There are some issues to work on but I managed to jump with my heart. I feel I could compete more than last year.”
(The article mostly talked about a teammate of his - you'll never guess who, I'm sure!)

Someone asked about the vocals, I don't know if it was in this or another thread. Anyway, German Eurosport say it's Milva. Pretty famous lady in Germany. Great stuff!

ok I saw on twitter a small video of Shoma and Yuzuru after they did pineapple apple pen thing at the gala and Shoma grabbed Yuzu's butt??!!!
I can't find it anymore but does someone have a link? also what was happening there??

also my reaction from GPF: Shoma was amazing. He had the best FS for me. I loved it so much. Loved the hug with Coach Higuchi afterwards too. They make me so happy together.

edit: ok i found this last GIF showing the scene kinda but not very clear http://shoma-uno.tumblr.com/post/154423746582/team-japan-2016-grand-prix-final-gala-exhibition

Ok, they definitely are friends. I can't imagine too many people would have the nerve to touch Yuzu's butt! Maybe it's just to get back at Yuzu for all the times he has pinched Shoma's cheeks, forced him to smile, etc. Or maybe he wants to remind him that he (Shoma) is the winner of the best butt contest? :scard7:

Haha, for some reason it seems to me like Yuzuru always wants to touch Shoma, pinch his cheeks and ruffle his hair. Maybe it's the height difference or he feels protective of Shoma, because he's smaller. And Shoma, always, stoic, is like, "well, okay, go ahead. I don't mind, either way." Yuzuru for all his success seems still boyish and cheeky to me. More than Shoma.
