I remember last year's junior world, Polina TSURSKAYA withdrew due to injury, then Marin took the title. People of course said something like oh she won because of Polina's absence, but now who will say that again? The most important thing is the title and the result, as for the details, no one cares that much after a while.

What? According to an article, Shoma is trying to change 4F to 4F-3T at SP! Anyway, I think it’s a good challenge as long as he stays healthy. He seems in good condition at his official practice, and it's not reckless challenge. Japanese Nationals usually don’t have score inflation as we see in some other Nationals and if he get a nice score, it will give him more confidence. Further, Japanese Nationals is not at all less pressure competition even when yuzu isnt there. It is the best competition for all the Japanese skaters. I feel National title is more meaningful and honor than international ones for Japanese skaters. Huge pressure, unique atmosphere having so much tension… It’s really thrilling and at the same time dramatic. Shoma is strongly determined to win there with memorable performances.

Further, he seems in pretty good condition now and his practice is smooth!

Thanks Arriba, for the information of his training in US and CBC comments!

Starting order lottery.

As is already posted, shoma is 20th.

Nathan has really made an impact on Shoma!!
First the practice with all jumps in +3T combinations, and now this?! I'm worried about his body and if he's wearing it out too much since he still has a long way to go before retirement, but man, that combination was amazing! :eeking::yahoo::laugh:
If Shoma lands it in the competition tomorrow, wouldn't it be the first ever quad flip of mankind in combination? Correct me if I'm wrong please  (Has Nathan ever attempted it before?)

I don't know whether I should be happy or sad that he might win the National title sooner than I expected.  I'm really sad that Yuzuru withdrew, but on the other hand, one of the skaters will win the Nats title they probably couldn't even dream of! And I hope Shoma will be the one who'll take the opportunity! :luv17: :hap10:

Today’s official practice

News clip, Daisuke!

Men is from 4:30

Shoma says his condition is rising and he’s just trying to show what he’s done. He’s taken up the practice of combo for strength of stamina.
He feels confident and determined. Daisuke says it’s certain he is trying 4F3T considering future competition for Worlds.

Thank you for the translation. There was also a translation of Daisuke's comments on his fan blog and he apparently said, that Shoma is doing a normal daily practice instead of checking and conditioning like everybody else. Do you have an idea what he means by that? :scratch2:

Edit: He probably means that Shoma is doing full run-throughs instead of just marking his programs, right? And he was very impressed by it.

What dai said is like this. Im sure the translator had the trouble to interpret this part!

Usually, at an official practice right before a competion, skaters do a kind of light practice for adjustment, confirmation, etc. But today Shoma was doing his practice as he does in his daily practice, not a light practice.

I am loving seeing so much footage of Dai-chan covering his Nationals, brings back so many great memories
and a few sad ones as well! I still can't watch his FS from his last Nationals appearance before Sochi. Sorry to go off topic!

And thanks to Arriba for making a phone call. Will you be going to watch him train?

Things are so busy at this time of year, but I really want to go and watch him again. I will have to call and see when he will be on the ice. Last time he was just practicing, but this time he will be getting some lessons. Should be interesting... I also HAVE to talk to broadcaster Chris from B ESP this time. I promised some GS-ers a long time ago that I would tell him how much the Brit broadcasters are appreciated. Last time he was in the middle of giving a private lesson.

Nathan has done the 4Z with the 3T but not the 4F+3T, as far as I know - at least in competition.. Personally, I'd rather see Shoma do 4F+2T. It will be fun to see what happens tho!

I think Nathan did it at the NHK trophy.
Failing to land the Lutz, he added the 3T to the 4F. --In the Short Program.

Nathan's quad lutz's three-toed wife did not show up at NHK, so Nathan introduced to the world the first time, quad flip's three-toed wife.
