Things are so busy at this time of year, but I really want to go and watch him again. I will have to call and see when he will be on the ice. Last time he was just practicing, but this time he will be getting some lessons. Should be interesting... I also HAVE to talk to broadcaster Chris from B ESP this time. I promised some GS-ers a long time ago that I would tell him how much the Brit broadcasters are appreciated. Last time he was in the middle of giving a private lesson.

You know Chris? Tell him to talk more about Shoma's thighs. We at GS enjoyed that tremendously.

Shoma must be so disappointed in himself. I just hope the media won't backlash him. I hope Shoma'll come back stronger in the Free! :hap10:

To find yourself suddenly the favourite when you were preparing as the underdog can be a bit overwhelming at first. It is a totally different mindset. So, he faltered in a program that hasn't been his strength all year... not a big surprise. I am sure he'll re set mentally and do much better with his long program. That has been where he has really shone this year, so hopefully he can perform well and *win* the title, as opposed to having people say it fell into his lap because of the w/d of Yuzu. Doing a great long program will go a long way to making any doubters change their tune. He would be a worthy national champion. But, you never know what Mura will do. That is why you compete and don't just look at it on paper.

88.05 that puts him in second to Mura right? Sorry I just woke up and have not
got the time or patience to go thru the Men's SP thread.

2.29 points out of first place. I am confident for the LP. His short program has been his nemesis all season.

Must of been his nerves because his practices were spot on yesterday.

I'm not worried for Shoma. He must be disappointed but coming up suddenly as the favourite + the desire to move the combo to the 4F must have put a little more pressure on himself. But the FP is clearly his strength this season, which is not given to everyone. Go Shoma !! :cheer:

So what I feared for GPF actually happened at Nationals. I have to repeat the mantra, 'don't let them get to you, don't reply, ignore, ignore, ignore', in the Competition thread. I won't visit it again.

I think he'll do fine in the free. And if not, it shouldn't be the end of the World. Mura deserves this title if he delivers.

He was scored generously, a little bit too high, imho, but the thing is with figure skating, you could tell that he was nervous. And the judges, they see it, they know what he can do, they watch him in practice and warm up. And he has delivered this season. It's okay if there is a little inflation involved. His difficulty also exceeded the others. More risk, more reward, even on an off day. I think they know they wouldn't have gotten away with such scores in an international competition.

So with Japanese Nationals, in general which way is it -- are the scores inflated or are they low? I think I've seen both comments. I tend to think of Nationals in most countries as having inflated scores. Pretty sure that's the way it is in the U.S.

It's just my opinion, but looking at the scoring of the past say, 6 Nationals or so, from Daisuke's wins, to Yuzuru's, if there is a No.1 skater in the country that one gets a PCS boost.
No matter how they skate, they will be awarded high PCS. The others will be scored a little high compared to what they might expect internationally, but the No.1 skater gets secure PCS.
When Yuzu beat Daisuke for the first time at nationals, he did so by posting higher TES in the short and the long. And Dai still got the highest PCS.
Last year, Yuzu scored over 100 with a fall on the end of his combo. 4S, 4T-3Tfall, 3A. That being said, his TES was still highest of the night, I think.
So, in my opinion, Shoma's scores inflation is in keeping with what happens every year at Nationals. It makes people irritated though, so I wish they wouldn't do it.

The thing is, while there are tons of short program skaters, Shoma has the advantage of being a brilliant free skate skater! Most of his FS are clean or with small Mistake, so I can belive he can pull himself up!

Sometimes, I just don't understand why people criticise Shoma's style of skating so much :sad14:. All those talks about his crossovers, and two-foot skating.. I'm not a professional in the sport, just a passionate fan, so I don't have any arguments to stand up against that. I would really appreciate any explanations to why it's wrong/unpleasing to the eyes, but personally, after all those years watching Shoma, I've never seen a professional hate on his skating. People like Tarasova and Kurt Browning loves his skating/transition/edges, and that's the same for me. A few skaters, like Yuzu, is phenomenal. But somehow, I can't watch their performances over & over again, while I can just watch Shoma's 100+ times and it'll always bring me so much emotions (might just be me)! I know it's objective, but it's so sad to listen to people talk about Shoma on other forums sometimes. Almost everything he does is criticised :slink:
