:dance2: :yes2: Shoma-kun sighting! Look who I found today! https://pic.twitter.com/enU5WZh1VY Here he is working with Alex. I watched him on the ice for about an hour and 10 minutes. He and Alex worked on jumps for about 40 minutes. It was very interesting because he would jump and then they were looking at the tracings in the ice. I was getting exhausted just watching all the jumps. I didn't get there 'til the afternoon, but apparently he had been there since about 10 am. He is so fun to watch! He looks very happy and relaxed on the ice but also very intense. He also worked on his own for awhile and did some spins and some bits and pieces of his programs. Alex had him stroking around the rink so fast, but he kept saying "Come on, faster, faster Shoma!" Geez!

And an added bonus, guess who else was there?! I still can't believe it! https://pic.twitter.com/RVDot4l1jP

From Gracie's picture, Chicago must be sooo cold.

:dance2: :dance3: Walked in today and was treated to seeing two National champions on the ice at the same time -- Shoma and Gracie! No interaction between the two of them because they are all business and practicing very hard! Shoma worked on his 3 jump combo, a couple 3-3 jumps, and then he and Alex spent 40 minutes working on the 4T and body positions, and the 3 turn going into the 4T. https://pic.twitter.com/j7PEwnvOkv --- https://pic.twitter.com/xmwa39uMx9 After a lunch break, they played his SP music and worked on integrating the 4T with 3 turn into the program. Shoma is such a hard worker! I was tired just watching him. But then came the best part -- he worked on footwork and moves in the field with someone whom I just knew had to be Russian. Turned out it was Vladimir Fedorov, a former Russian ice dancer. This was just fascinating to watch! https://pic.twitter.com/DPQQSjsVy5 Then at one point Alex put a big styrofoam coffee cup on Shoma's head and he was skating around. Not sure what that was all about, but all 3 of them were laughing. Shoma was so cute when he gave Vladimir a Christmas present! :) Could have sworn I saw Itsuki and mom yesterday, but today I just saw mom. Please Shoma-kun, don't go home! :) :sad4:

Great report Arriba. That sounds so stressful for Shoma, though. Not the training itself but the flight, time zone changes just days after Nationals. But then he is young, a world class athlete....it must not bother him that much.

From Gracie's picture, Chicago must be sooo cold.

I would say he looked to be in very good spirits and in good condition physically. Granted, he looked a little tired after he'd done about 10 quads, but he was looking good. That thought did come to my mind though that when I was watching him at 1 pm my time, I think it would have been 4 am his time. :drama: I would be a wreck. I also understand that the first morning he was at the rink, a bunch of kids wanted to have their pictures taken with him. I'm sure that was fun!

Gracie was all bundled up because the day I took that picture, it wasn't really super cold, but it was VERY windy which made it feel a lot colder.

That's so cool!! It's nice that you can just go and watch then do their thing. Vladimir Fedorov? Blast from the past... he used to skate with Krylova back in the 90s!!

Thank you so much for your report Arriba! How lucky you were to see both Shoma and Gracie on the same day.
Sometimes I worry about how little time Shoma seems to have for rest, but he is young and seems to run on endless energy. If this pace works for him, then keep going Shoma! :cheer:

I didn't know who he was, but one of the moms whose daughter skates at this rink all the time told me his name. When she said his name, it sounded vaguely familiar to me. He was really awesome. I'm still trying to figure out how they communicate with each other, but somehow they figure it out! :laugh2:

I really enjoy watching Vladimir Fedorov work with Shoma. He worked him SO hard today! And that was after Shoma had worked with Alex on quads. Then they put on his FS music, and for every jump (except the 3 jump combo) in the program, he did a quad. He did a great job, and the people who were there watching were all clapping. I talked to Shoma's mom today, and she was SO nice! Had a chance to congratulate him on his Nationals win when I took the picture I posted in my last post. Itsuki and dad were at the rink today too.

Did your change your name on twitter Arriba?

OMG, you are so lucky. And amazingly brave, I wouldn't dare to take a picture....haha. I love how the whole family is there to support Shoma. It must be hard to be away from home so much, but if your family is with you it all seems better. Oh how I wish for him to do well at Worlds. 4CC too...I actually think his biggest threat is Nathan Chen. *sigh* Please skating god, help Shoma on the podium, please!

Shoma's moves are much crisper and he is ahead of Nathan in PCS. I hope Nathan can go to 4CC this year and they both medal again.

Jumping: Nathan > Shoma
Non jumping: Shoma > Nathan
Emotion: Shoma - boiling inside, Nathan - cold blooded

I trust your expertise because you come from Quadland! :yahoo:

The only same level of figure skating performance is this:

Kiss and cry level
Shoma : Miyahara
Nathan: Miyahara
