i saw some of the comments in the other thread and ran away... i have dealt with enough negativity being a patrick fan.... lol.. now you guys know how it's like...

ignore is a great function as long as people don't quote those posters... i wish there was a real block or hide function.

Regarding Shoma, not surprised he didn't have his best skate.... 4CC was draining for these boys.

Also on the purple team. I thought it made him look very nice. Blue is so boring.

Good luck in the FS !

^^^Yes I made the decision to go, even though it was probably a bit piantao on my part. I figure our favorites all have such short careers, so you gotta just do it. Plus it's highly unlikely Shoma will have Sk Amer or Sk Can next year, GPF is in Japan, no Olympics for me -- so I just don't see when the next opportunity will be for me to see him skate. I always worry that one misstep, and a career can be over. Not to be overly pessimistic :roll5: , but you never know.

Oh no, sounds like I missed the usual in the AWG thread. Dare I look. Let me guess -- underrotated, overrated, prerotated, messy landings, 3.5 jumps, judges' pet. And that's just for starters. Short program? Get it done.

I finally got to see Patrick live this year.... at Nationals (and his LP was ) ... I agree on going for it when one can... I figured out it was my last chance in his case. But with Shoma, I think there will be another olympic cycle to beijing ;)

I think after becoming a Shoma fan it's the first time that I understand how Patrick fans really must be feeling. I never had that with Daisuke, but he was universally adored by most, until the end of his career. Shoma though, he has something that raises people's hackles so much that they get downright ugly.

I really enjoyed seeing Patrick at Sk Can this year. He is very exciting live. And altho he didn't have a perfect skate at SC, it was still very beautiful. When I saw him at Worlds, he had such a rough skate it wasn't that enjoyable for me. His Chopin at 4CC last year was the best (on tv for me, not live).:hijacked:

I do hope Shoma goes for another Olympic cycle, and the frosting on the cake will be if he continues to come to Chicago for training. But that could change at anytime...Shoma can be a bit reckless, so I do worry about him. I don't want him to be another Sota.(Poor Sota, hope he comes back this year).

Maybe people become so accustomed to their favorites winning that it's hard for them to believe that even their favorites can become vulnerable -- and I'm speaking in general, not about any one particular skater. And I think the fact that Shoma is hard-working, ambitious, gutsy, genuinely happy, polite, cute, etc. etc. really gets under people's skin. I think it was one of our thigh-loving B ESP boys who said "Don't think for a minute he is content with standing on the Bronze and Silver steps." "Maketakunai" (I don't like/want to lose") was what he told Uncle Dai!

lol and i like patrick shoma and han... i m in trouble :)

^^^As always, he makes any costume look wonderful, but I still prefer the lavender!

I haven't seen this posted here so I thought I'd drop it, since I just saw it:

Uno Shoma: “I was not able to perform the programme I wanted”

“From the very beginning to the very end, I’ll give it my all no matter what” and “I have to concentrate” - these are both thoughts that I held very strongly. I kept on thinking that I must concentrate, but the fact that I was thinking like that is proof that I was not concentrating at the time. After everything ended I thought - in that situation, even if I couldn’t focus, I somehow managed to get past the mistakes with just the feeling of “I’m definitely going to do this!”

– How do you feel about the 4T?

I thought the feeling I had when I jumped it was good but it ended up different from the jump I had envisioned. I was able to go for the jump completely (t/n: mentally nothing was holding him back) but (the jump position) wasn’t compact enough. It felt like the jumps came out just the way they were when I failed them in practice. (The jumps in) today’s practice were definitely off-axis, and I think that bad axis continued into the mistakes I made (in the jumps in the competition). There’s really a fine line between a good and bad jump. Today’s results were slightly disappointing but it makes me think that I need to increase my success rate, even if I only increase it in the toeloop.

– How do you feel about the tough schedule? (AWG right after 4CC)

I haven’t really experienced something like this, having AWG immediately after 4CC, but there are many skaters besides me who are also experiencing this hard schedule. I don’t really think it’s good to put the blame of failure on the schedule just because it’s hard, so I think the fault lies with me for not being able to adjust within these 4 days.

– How do you feel about the points?

I think the points were a little higher than the content. I am very grateful that those points were given but in the end I feel most regretful that I could not perform and give it my all the way I wanted to.

Not being able to tack on the combo to the toeloop means a big loss of points, but in addition to that, my left foot also gently touched the ground on my first (quad) flip so personally I consider that two mistakes. It’s not just that one jump lost points, its that other than the axel, I couldn’t jump anything else well.

– But you were considered to be the frontrunner in this competition?

I don’t really consider myself in that position (of being chased by others). The results too, were so close after all. The person who fails loses, the person who succeeds wins. One quad jump is worth close to 10 points so it’s not about chasing or being chased - I think that maybe the one who can win against himself is the one who has won in the competition.

^^^Glad you posted this. Really like his honest assessment. Goodness, he's human after all! :) Even Coach Fluffy looked a little wiped out!

ETA -- Agree with what Daphenaxa says below. No excuses. Knows he has work to do. Many others with the same difficult schedule.

I'm becoming a new fan of Shoma. He finally charmed me with his performances at the Four Continents, so I hope he keeps doing so for his fans. :)

What do you all think of his new costume?

Personally I like the colour more than the lavender, but it's a "harder" look, that doesn't suit his soft, lyrical program quite as much as the original one imho. I'm also superstitious and believe, that the costume change was responsible for Shoma's loss of concentration.* ;) So if the Purple Boys are still willing to take him back, he should dust off that lovely lavender "silk" (or whatever it's made of) and seek their forgiveness for renegading. :p

* or maybe this had sth. to do with doing back to back comps with 4CC

Completely agree with that last statement, Arriba! Pointing out the bizarre judging at this event wasn't even the problem, because unfortunately Shoma was rewarded generously for a flawed performance. What I have always had a problem with is the singling out of one/a few particular skater/s, who at any given moment seem/s to be perceived as the biggest challenge to the established status quo. I know it's hard to handle that changing of the guard situation - I've been there myself when Yuzu took over from Dai - but if you follow skating long enough, you come to realize, that this will reocur whenever a new generation with more dangerous weapons comes along, so I've come to accept it. In the - hopefully distant - future Shoma will likely be the affected one. *sigh* And I wouldn't want to pretend, that the current top dogs weren't favoured for the longest time as well to keep the "rightful" order in place. Everybody knows that this kind of judging is less than ideal, but as I already said in the AWG thread, arguing about it on the internet is completely pointless, because it won't change anything at all. It's why I never join related discussions in The Edge. :slink:

Can you imagine the Shoma FanFest thread having a blast at Worlds? We would wear shirts one with L, another with O, the next one with a C and the last one with an O. The two O's could change seats without anyone noticing! And if more people would like to join they could do the PIANTAO!

Love this! So who else from Shoma's Fan-Fest is going to complete Arriba's L-shirt at Worlds? (Would've loved to join the fun, but work...and noone wants to fund this for me...booo :sad4:)

Thanks for posting the interview, xeyra! Shoma is very down to earth really - what's not to like about this kid?

Welcome in here Crossover! :)

That would be so fun. At one of our Nationals about 30-40 Jason supporters wore t-shirts that said TEAM BROWN. And they made a lot of noise! I would love to do something like that...I will be taking a few flags with me. I'll probably get too excited to wave them. Maybe I ought to take a portable defibrillator instead!

Thank you, xeyra for sharing that interview. Very mature and humble interview from Shoma, he knows he got a very kind score for what he put out on the ice. He doesn't like being gifted, and I hope he can come back in the free. But even if he doesn't, I think it's not as tragic.

Shoma clearly looked tired in SP. Still I loved that spread eagle  into huge 3A, emotional step sequences , the overall speed as if he was flying!
Fatigue understandable he had only 1 day-off after 4CC, I just hope he isn't injured or something. 4T-3T combo in SP has been a hit or miss all season, maybe a good idea to exclude steps (or turns?) into jumps at Worlds next month, since steps are not required at all in the combo in SP methink. Can easily get +GOE if hit them cleanly.

Re his new costume some of you guys all talking and mourning ;) ; it pales a bit on his skin tone, also he looks a bit smaller on ice I'm afraid. To my eyes, however, the problem is the black pants. The shirt stself is just fine very mature look on ice. I'd prefer Shoma to wear dark-blue pants instead. :)

Anyway, good luck to Shoma in FS tomorrow! :cheer: Then get some good rest as needed, please.

^^^I was already saying at Skate America that I wish he would stick to 4T + 2T instead of putting on the 3T. I'm sure that's considered wimpy by today's standards, but better to go clean.

ETA -- Love this video clip of Shoma below. He looks like he's afraid of the stuffed animals / mascots? I wonder if anyone even understands what's going on, since it's all being done in English!

hello All in the land of Mr. Piantao!:cheer:, welcome Crossover:ghug:

not sure if it was already posted here or in 4CC threads, but here's Zijun Li 4CC banquet live Snap, around 24 mins total: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqK4ham52F0

around 3.00 min there is Shoma walking with OG mascots on runway like a pro:cool14:, another short sightning around 14.00 min

whole clip is very funny, lots of my faves: Tessa and Scott, Jason and Grant, Sui, Han, Boyang:love: (he's a goof!), Dabin, Yu (my fairy queen), Yuzuru, Michael Christian Martinez, Misha, Shibutanis, Kirsten Moore-Towers, Dylan Moscovitch (looking DAYUM up close...)...

there's also another Snap clip, from Boyang, but lasting 1h 25mins, did not watch, but in case someone wants to (at the beginning he's singing a bit : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAvEaeYLqpc

ETA - big apologies about misleading - Boyang's snap is from Worlds 2016 in Boston!

Congratulations to the AWG medalists! Not a pretty win by any means, but still a win. The Mighty Thighs (as they have been called) were still mighty...Now go home and rest so you can go to Luxembourg! (oh dear) :drama:

Just watched the medalists' and a few others' FS performances. Oh dear, I think I'd mostly like to forget that competition :drama: (apart from Han and Takahito - congrats on their respectable performances!). Shoma looked like he was ready to keel over mid-skate and when the national anthem was played I was expecting him to topple off the podium. This is a prime example why I'm against the team event at the Olympics - having to do 3 to 4 competitive skates in such a short time-span takes too much out of the skaters. I'd rather see everyone crisp and relatively clean in the individual events. I don't want another splat-fest next year.

At least the medal ceremony had several hilarious moments, especially the one with Boyang and Han prematurely jumping off the podium in unison.

Still, congrats to Shoma, Boyang and Han for surviving the competition and finishing on the podium! I would love to say, please take a bit of well deserved time off, if it weren't for Coupe du Printemps... :palmf:

So I'll stick to "Shoma, please don't overwork yourself, stay healthy and wow everyone at Worlds with two stellar skates, I know you are capable of!"

A cute selfie from AWGs from Michael Martinez' instagram. He seems to be quite the Shoma-fan. :)
