No Shoma. Don't even think about going back to costumes reminiscent of the dreaded deep V! :)

I always thought they had a couple duplicates of each costume, but I think that original loco one was so expensive (what with all the Swarovski crystals and all the detail) that they may only have one. Doesn't seem necessary to use it for this competition. ( Sure would LOVE to know what the original costume cost!)

And they may also enjoy setting Twitter on fire with these odd costumes. This costume makes me appreciate the original even more!

I actually liked "dead chicken" and was anxiously awaiting it's competition debut. Now I'm really sad because IMO FS costume V.3 is :eekn:
Thanks y'all~

Which one is the dead chicken costume? This is the first time I heard of it.

I remembered Bjork wore a dead swan to the Oscars or Golden Globes.

Am I the only one thinking that Shoma may save the original costumes for the "serious" events, to prevent them to get too dirty or damaged? And that he wears "B costumes" for "B events" (or shows, stuff like that)? Because seriously, there's no way to find a connexion between this and the Loco program.

I was discussing this same possibility with my friend. Keep in mind that he'll be in Europe through Worlds, so he probably has his originals nice and clean and ready to go for that event. He probably has a trusted source for where he gets them cleaned at home and wouldn't want to take any chances abroad.

Really nice job on the SP today! Not sure what I love more -- the Uncle Dai look-alike head roll or the beautiful 3A . Really like the 3A from the inside edge so much better.

Why not both? No need to decide. :) The whole sequence from 2:12 to 2:39 is my favourite part of the program.

Btw, does anyone know, if it's considered more difficult to do the 3A from an inside as opposed to from an outside spread eagle?

Which one is the dead chicken costume? This is the first time I heard of it.

It derived its name from its remote resemblance to Shoma's favourite senpai's even more horrifying "chicken arm" costume from ages ago. In comparison "dead chicken" is the epitome of good taste. I think the new one is worse. The asymmetric neckline and illusion mesh turtle-neck seem like a fusion of some of the "Haute Couture" creations Johnny and Yuzu have worn through the years. Let's be thankful Shoma isn't as obssessed with frills and colourful rhinestones or else this would look like a burnt chicken with sparkly flaps of shrivelled, singed skin. :palmf: Let's hope it's indeed just a stand-in.

At least Shoma has now proven that he's able to skate gorgeously in any costume, so this shouldn't affect his FS tomorrow.
Go Shomita!!! (Hope you don't mind me borrowing that nickname, daphenaxa. ;))

The new costume is designed by the same designer as the first one. She prepared four designs for Shoma. Although the team picked the red/black costume, Shoma really liked the grey one.

You would think they would have used better illusion fabric like the black and red costume.

big congratulations to Shoma and coach Higuchi (a stylish master she is, her styling and make-up is always on point!), SP in Luxembourg was fantastic! For me, it's a kind of program that resonates the loudest and is the most impactful while skated clean, with poise and speed from beginning to end - it reminds me of Denis Ten's SP from 2014/15 season to 'Caruso'. It's a type of music where a lot depends on right choreography and skater himself: his musicality, ability to express, artistic skills and Shoma really has this factor to carry it amazingly. I may be not my favourite program this season, but his execution, vividness and smoothness in expression convince me to it, draw into performance he produces.

Regardless of costume he'll choose for FS, best wishes to Shoma - take care and skate the best!!!

And regarding this 'Shomita' discussion (btw great expression, cute and appropriate I think:agree:) about height et all - I don't feel like his height or lack of it a bit defines him and I don't think it should do so. For me, what resonates with me the most and goes deeply is the spirit of skater shown, his skill, his skating, his musicality or ability to connect, to transform, to carry emotions, to move me, I really don't care about height or build. And honestly I don't care about whole technical (jumping) abilities that much - it is admirable and exciting, I agree, but it is only a part of a bigger picture for me - it can be a decisive factor for some people, it is a decisive competitive factor regarding results, but jumping ability is only one dimention of each skater. I simply connect with Shoma, with his skating and often I am moved beyond words by his performances - it's them speaking so loudly to me, looking so big and majestic, regardless of his height of build. Like Ed Sheeran sings in song 'What do I know', 'life is more than fittin' in your jeans', that skating should be more than jumps/having certain height, build, shape to do it, hence my adoration and admiration of skater like Shoma, Jason Brown, Misha Ge, regardless of their results.

For me, when he steps on the ice you see that he is tiny... but once the music starts and he starts to perform you forget all about height, age, or anything else. He interprets his music so well that I only see a skater who loves what he is doing, is giving everything that he has, and has no trouble projecting that to the audience.

I was thinking about the original black & red FS costume, it looks heavy and stiff. Does it influence the movement? I thought about this before this change.

I would think that costume would need to be as light as possible, not just to not restrict the body in things like spin positions, but also to not weigh the skater down too much. I never thought that Shoma's costumes were made of heavy fabric.

Oh, in that footage Shoma is not just a blue/black blur whizzing by. :p Can we please get full versions of that quality?
