Thank you so much for all the links synesthesia. What a fun competition for Shoma's fans who wanted a chance to see him up close...He skates big when he is on the ice, so his height becomes a non-issue. Actually he's still taller than me! :drama: And there are many other skaters who were similar to his height who were so wonderful - Tatsuki, Scott Hamilton, Elvis Stojko, to just name a few. So Shomita is actually Shomote el Grandote to me!

I'm sure the red/black masterpiece will be back for Worlds. Those costumes by Satomi Ito are works of art. https://www.instagram.com/stm_ito She has done a couple for Satoko too that are just heavenly. The detail on the back of his costume is incredible.

As far as Shoma's numbers, I'm getting to where the only number I care about is 120 -- as in he gives 120% every time he steps on the ice. I think it was TSL that said he skates every program as if it's the last skate of his life. And he always makes me feel something! Love his commitment to the programs, even if he has a fall.

Pretty sure I read that Shoma doesn't really care all that much about the costumes, just so long as he can move freely in them. I would think if the red / black costume were too restrictive, he would have said something about it. I'm sure we'll see that one back for Worlds. I just LOVE that costume and really think it is the most beautiful men's costume of the season. Of course, I am just slightly (!) prejudiced, but I can't think of another men's costume that is quite as beautiful.
 
Just fyi, I think Elvis Stojko was about 5'6".... he just looked short because of his compact, muscular frame.

I think the red and black will be back too. He has done well with it, and I have come to identify that outfit with this program. It is just so perfect for this program.

Do we have any idea where Shoma will be for the next 2 weeks, if he us indeed staying in Europe? What lucky skaters there could be, to go to the rink one day and find him at their rink!!!

I am a bit disappointed no fancams of the FS or practices or even the gala for that matter have emerged :/ maybe later since a lot of fans seem to have made the trip.

For the free skate I have to say I was absolutely mesmerized by his performance. I think here and at 4CC were the best renditions of the loco. Not talking about the elements here but his movement intentions, and his arms and fingers and the sharpness but also silkiness of his skating and interpretation. Maybe i make no sense but I really thought it was one of his best skate maybe ever. Idk. I loved it.

Congrats to Shoma! :) Loved his tango-flavor hair in FS, he looks so mature on ice. :love: So, is this the famous costume some are complaining as 'dead chicken' all season? ;) :laugh: Personally I'm okay with it. :scard7:

No, actually, this is the burnt dead chicken version, which is different from the dead chicken of many complaints. The original is still the worst but I cannot find it in me to like this one because of the yellowish illusion mesh. If he didn't have that, or if the illusion mesh was more transparent-y, I'd like it a lot more, but because it exists, I cannot look at it without wanting to cry.

I am hopeful, though, that he will bring back the Red Tango of Hotness outfit for Worlds and hopefully rejoin the Boys in Lavender boyband, though his alternative SP costume is really pretty, unlike any of his FS alternatives...

I agree I think that costume 'the ashes of the chicken"™ is really not that bad as far as figure skating costumes go. I think the ugly colour of the illusion mesh that doesn't fit Shoma's skin colour at all does ruin it a bit but appart from that it is ok. It's just that the other one is SO BEAUTIFUL :love: that it just suffers from comparison.

I think presentation/expression-wise his FS at Skate America is my favourite. He was super passionate there and even broke the default "death glare" for a smile at one point. ;) I agree that his movements were probably the sharpest and most on point at CdP though. I'm in awe, that Shoma essentially never performs half-heartedly, even when he's exhausted and it's not going perfectly. He never lets up until the end. I think the comparison video you linked to proves that - none of those performances has been really subpar. (That's why you'd probably get 5 different answers, if you were to ask 5 different people for their favourite performance.) Still, unlike the SP, I think Loco hasn't been skated to its full potential yet. I hope the one at Worlds will be the ultimate perfect version, the one in which everything comes together - expression, jumps, spins, StSq4, all the planned combos :biggrin: - preferably resulting in a broadly smiling and fist-pumping Shomita on the podium in his beautiful original Loco costume. :luv17:

For me, it's a kind of program that resonates the loudest and is the most impactful while skated clean, with poise and speed from beginning to end - it reminds me of Denis Ten's SP from 2014/15 season to 'Caruso'. It's a type of music where a lot depends on right choreography and skater himself: his musicality, ability to express, artistic skills and Shoma really has this factor to carry it amazingly. I may be not my favourite program this season, but his execution, vividness and smoothness in expression convince me to it, draw into performance he produces.

And regarding this 'Shomita' discussion (btw great expression, cute and appropriate I think:agree:) about height et all - I don't feel like his height or lack of it a bit defines him and I don't think it should do so. For me, what resonates with me the most and goes deeply is the spirit of skater shown, his skill, his skating, his musicality or ability to connect, to transform, to carry emotions, to move me, I really don't care about height or build. And honestly I don't care about whole technical (jumping) abilities that much - it is admirable and exciting, I agree, but it is only a part of a bigger picture for me - it can be a decisive factor for some people, it is a decisive competitive factor regarding results, but jumping ability is only one dimention of each skater. I simply connect with Shoma, with his skating and often I am moved beyond words by his performances - it's them speaking so loudly to me, looking so big and majestic, regardless of his height of build. Like Ed Sheeran sings in song 'What do I know', 'life is more than fittin' in your jeans', that skating should be more than jumps/having certain height, build, shape to do it, hence my adoration and admiration of skater like Shoma, Jason Brown, Misha Ge, regardless of their results.

This is one of the BIG reasons for me to have fallen in love with figure skating. :luv17: There were and are skaters and programs that simply grab my heart and/or that move me to tears even with flaws/mistakes. :yes: Some of such skaters/programs for me weere/are not always winning ones at big competitions, world medals or Oly champion titles are totally unnecessarily in this regard (since political power plays a big role in this sport re results/standings/PCS :ohwell:). Otherwise, I would have given up to follow the sport long ago.

Yup, can't take credit for this one. :o: Don't know, who came up with it in the first place, but I think it still suits him. :) (Even if Don Juan is supposed to be of southern European descent, while Shoma's tango is of course rooted in Argentinian culture.)

Did he go back to Japan after all? Ten days before Worlds is just about now, so where was he? And where is he now? Find Shoma!
