Poor baby. :console: I think Shoma really didn't know what to make of Kenji's teasing. Though I'm sure Kenji didn't mean to pick on him since he's like that with everyone. I suppose it's his way of showing affection.

The whole talk was translated on shoma-uno.tumblr btw:

I was surprised to read that he had lip palm in his bag! :eeking:

Oh yes, it's Olympic Season, the first of July has already passed. Another nail-biting, pillow eating year for me and my favourites. I feel that our ShoSho can only win this year. I will be happy for every podium finish! And if there is gold at the end of the Olympic Rainbow - all the better. I'm so thankful that we have the Shoma fanfest to celebrate and be kind to one another, when the backlash starts again. We are a top team!!! Let me hug you all virtually, boys & girls! :ghug: 2018 here we go!

I found a clear version of the video I put a while ago
two years later (Interview after returning from Helsinki)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bJothe4lT8

(Actually, this is one of my favorite videos, in particular his looks and his unique atmosphere :scratch3: )

Wow, thank you! I just had some unexpected (unwanted) downtime with my evening, but what a reward, I really got a chance to see this interview.

re: his mother calling after medalling, “I tend to hear from her more after a not-so-good competition than a good competition” i just love it (said with reserve and a shadow of a smile) I can’t imagine having a superkid like shoma. I’d be living in dog yrs.
( ! corrections please if i heard it all wrong)

(another bit i could pick up)
When asked if his theme “to attack” meant he was adding more quads or learning a new quad, he said that it doesn’t refer to the technical element, but rather, the “attack” word is something he uses for himself because he has a personality that draws back and gets worried, …that when things aren’t going so well, his tendency is to get cautious which isn’t a very good thing, so it’s a word he keeps in mind for when things get rough so that hopefully he’ll have the attitude of fighting on.
some question about being a contender i think:
“I’m extremely grateful that people are saying i’ve become a formidable contender, but from my point of view, my abilities were at their best in this competition, whereas Hanyu-Yuzuru senshu had faltered in the short, so there is really yet a long way for me to go with my abilities.” [to clarify, he’s saying he hadn’t competed with Hanyu senshu’s best or that Hanyu senshu’s best is more than the points would suggest] (at end, something to do with not wanting to lose rather than wanting to win…stuff he’s said in other interviews i think?)

Fasten your seat belts. I think we may be in for a wild ride! We may need all the hugs we can get! :ghug: :console:

I thought that was strange! But if he continues to bite his lips (nervous habit), I don't think any lip balm will help. It's a very hard habit to break!

Woodorf That is the first time I have heard the jelly story!
synesthesia I think we need a compilation of Shoma head tilts! There are probably enough to do at least a 20 minute video!...I agree that Kenji is quite a tease. At first I felt like he was making fun of Shoma and I really didn't like that, but then I realized that they know each other pretty well, and Kenji pretty much teases everyone who is on the show...My recollection on the FS is that at PIW Shomita said the choreography is completely different. Different vocal version too on Nessun Dorma.

Thanks for the translations!

Live stream of the variety show in less than an hour!! 10:25 pm in Japan.
http://japan.artv.ga/nhk-general-tv-nhk総合/

It's the Olympic season! I'm excited (with a bit of anxiety). Brace yourselves for some jumping trolls, haha. Can't wait to see the new Nessun Dorma, if the news is true that he's performing it end of this week in DOI. More importantly, I'm excited to see the program develop throughout the season!

@cantilover and @magicaleggrolls at Twitter are doing a live reaction to the show and it's hilarious. Apparently Shoma has only eaten vegetables once or twice this year. And he trips walking very often. But is apparently very good at darts.

Edit with some choice quotes:

"If you could skate naked (because lighter than a costume), would you?"
"Yeah"
Source

"Do you play any other sports? Like baseball?"
Shoma: "I don't really... have much to do with other people"
Source

Aiba: when was the last time you went abroad
Shoma: Worlds in...in. . . . .
Source

Some screencaps here and here.

What even is this? Also LOL.

Just catched a few bits but random impression: Shoma's face when he plays darts is his killer face. I have no doubt he means business this season. He's all cute and shy but as soon as he's competing he's getting serious, he really is an athlete with winner genetics. He might want to finish the season with a smile, but that's never his main objective. And I think to win, you have to want it, you really have to want it bad.

Other than that, interesting show. I love Mao, and I love Yuzuru - but they shouldn't be mentioned all the time in a show that focuses on Shoma. Also why did Shizuka have to explain jumps and they took Mura as an example? Seems weird to me.

And lol his thighs....kept him from cycling to the finish line I say. :)

Oh, I didn't know that cantilover did live reactions during the show! I was watching the live stream. The things I've learned:
1) Shoma is NOT small enough to pedal a baby trike (thank goodness!). Also, he IS, in fact, capable of getting dizzy.
2) He now knows how to do one card trick (I was seriously impressed when he managed to repeat the trick to the hosts after the magician taught him one-on-one). Maybe he can use it for his social interactions this season?
3) The guy is REALLY REALLY good at darts! He was even better than the dart "master" that they had on the show.  He got this really serious and contemplative look in his eyes when he started aiming with the darts. Competitive even at darts!

I don't understand Japanese, but since they did a lot of drawings (ah, I love it!) summarizing the answers, you can figure out some of the things they were talking about. The hosts had a good laugh, I think they asked him what he ate in a day, and there was a lot of steak in there.

Also, revelations from Keiji: 1) Shoma gets hangry, 2) He listens to the soundtrack of Kimi No Nawa over and over again (correct me if I'm wrong, that's what I got from it), ad nauseam, 3) Shoma plays games on his phone A LOT, such that Keiji has to push him out the door to go see the sights in the places they're visiting.

The others were just mostly stuff about Mao Asada and the Olympic season, also his jumps (I thought it was odd that they reviewed some of the different types of jumps, in relation to the quad flip he first did and the Guiness World Record he got as a result. He must have been so bored during that portion.). I didn't realize how they would make him watch himself as a kid or in previous competitions/practices while having a mini-doumentary ongoing. That must be really awkward. :rolleye: :palmf: He looked like he was used to it, though. There was also a part in the beginning where his costume designer spoke up in a video, but I didn't get much on it since the stream kept buffering for me at that time.

All in all, pretty fun.

There was actually one part where all them had to answer 10 questions with a yes or no. I got nothing on that one. Hopefully some information will pop out soon! It looked like an interesting portion of the show.

Here is video of him playing darts. What can't he do? Also, the faces of those other guys....

And here is the cycling video. He looks so confused on how to ride the bike

Oh my! He gets that "maketakunai" look with the darts. Too funny. So glad to see the tricycle! I tuned in late. Seems like jeans, the mighty thighs, and tricycles don't go together too well...I DID see him get dizzy at Skate Am practice after a series of spins. He turned the opposite direction a couple times to get "un-dizzy", and he was laughing while he did it. Gasp...is he human after all?! :luv17:

You can just see his super competitiveness (something I don't have AT ALL and have always admired)...Thx for the links. Can't wait to see more news.

Here is a link to Gutto Sports of 4th of July with Shoma on Dailymotion, for those who couldn't watch it live.

Figure Skating is expensive...I'm glad Toyota is supporting Shoma now.

Agree. I'm so happy that Toyota supports him!
Yeah..didn't imagine that he's good at dart lol. it was a good tv program😀

Wow!! Thank you fot the amazing translation!!
Shoma didn't break a humble/modest stance even though he gave a result, and always considers his senior(Hanyu), Wonderful man, I think so too!! :agree2::luv17:

※I must watch his TV Show right away!!

Sorry Woodorf that I’m so slow keeping up with the forum. It means a lot to me that you thought I translated all right, because your first post and your feelings meant a great deal to me. What’s more, I’d be devastated if I were to make a mistake and state that shoma said something he didn’t say or did something he didn’t do!! I find him to be so unique and so true. There have been faves for me in music, dance, literature, tennis… But Shoma’s up there with only a couple of others, neither of whom are skaters, that I love deeply and take as personal inspiration.

I still haven’t seen the tv program but am looking forward when I do. I am always behind in my life, so I am always behind with the videos this forum gifts us with. (i find i bookmark them when I can, for later, but I take a peek) I know you’re very busy, thanks for posting that press interview!

Here you can really see how he changes when he starts competing.

Cuteness overload.

In regards to Shoma not really remembering where the world championships were held, my countrymen reminded him....
