I've been a fan of Shoma for a few years now, but I've only just arrived here, so hello everyone:)

I really like certain moments of the choreography (the dramatic arms in the spread eagle before the second 3A:love:), but overall I still think it's a little empty, but I see great potential in the program. I think it's a really good start, and I love how much he feels the music.
 
umm...overall, I prefer what he did in the previous show, PIW. According to him, what he can do depends on his condition in each show at the moment. We'll see he'll be improving & changing month by month😀 Agree to the costume advice, I'd like to see new costume, definitely he'll.
 
Welcome OneFlutzAway. Love your name!...I love that we can see improvement from show to show. I can't imagine how hard it is to skate under lights and in that rink that seems smaller. Seems like the Winter Prince needs more room! Before I was saying they were probably 50% done on his programs. Now maybe they're 60%, but he has a lot to do still. We know he is up to the challenge! I am wondering if they still don't really know what they are aiming for in the layout on Turandot. In a 6-20 interview, Shoma said they hadn't decided, and of course it seemed like everyone was pushing him about the 4Lz. He (wisely) would not commit to that and only told us he wanted a 4F in the second half and 4Lo as the second jump. He also said he hopes to stabilize the 4Lo to the point where he would be able to put it in the program twice. So who knows what that will look like. I am Just in love with how he doesn't skate TO the music -- it's more like he embodies the music. It continuously reminds me that he doesn't just want to be a soulless technician. He wants to be an artist and wants to feel the music, which I think he really does.

I'm not concerned about the costumes, because there is NO WAY these are his "for real" costumes. Who knows? Maybe some day we will solve the mystery of "What on earth is that diagonal stripe on the FS costume"?! My guess is that right now Satomi Ito is frantically working away on next season's costumes -- not only for Shoma but for many Team Japan members. Hopefuly we will see the new costumes at Lombardia.

Loved when he skated LiL with Akiko. I got a laugh when I noticed that he does a move that reminds me of a head tilt (at around :33) right before he does his froggie move. I have a slightly perverse desire to see Shoma skating to (or embodying, as Arriba627 has rightly pointed out) some really tragic music, almost excruciatingly so, or to some deeply melancholic stuff -- I am thinking of something like Vivaldi's Nisi Dominus, "Cum dederit" (Caro's SP from the last season), or 'Schindler's List', or something like this (warning: you are about to hear Schnittke! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlXX978et1Q; the original choir version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSopZ3y2ERE), or something more minimalistic, like Arvo Pärt or even Max Richter, or even some really melancholic jazz or blues song.
I know any psychoanalyst will say that this is a typically neurotic wish to merge great pleasure (of seeing Shomita) with a great deal of pain and suffering, but I do think Shoma can embody this tragic stuff like no one else. Maybe we'll see something like that one day -- definitely, in a post-Olympic season, as a kind of experiment. Who knows?

Has anyone pointed this out before? -- the new tenor voice in Nessun Dorma, it seems, belongs to Jose Carreras (kudos to these new computer programs that manage to identify recordings).

I want Shoma to skate to Gregorian Chant. Monk Shoma, yeah. Anyway, I have so many wishes for Shoma, but I'll concentrate on this season first, hehe.
 
^^^And here I was afraid his maketakunai ping pong and the famous TV tricycle race might have permanently ruined his love life. Ummm...I think all is well. And I know purple is for royalty (as in Shomajesty's velvet purple pants), but the black looks so much better on his shorter legs.

I'm not sure if we ever officially determined that was Carreras. I know someone mentioned it sounded like someone from the 3 Tenors. I had said that if it were, it had to be Carreras since he was the weakest of the 3. (No disrespect intended to him. I LOVE him, and he was having health issues at the time which were affecting his voice.). Earlier, Bambina told us that Shazam said it was Johannes Wilder and Janez Letric. I believe that is correct but would have to watch Sho's The Ice to double check.

I would love to see Shoma skate to something big and dramatic and sad! I am very partial to Schindler's List, but S.L. seems to always draw a lot of criticism. I just love those violins that sound like they're crying / talking.

As for SL -- whatever you feel towards the film itself, the soundtrack is just brilliant, no questions about that.

For those who are interested: the first couple of minutes of Shoma's Turandot program are actually from Vanessa Mae's Violin Fantasy on Turandot - same music Jason used for his 2011 senior debut at US Nationals:

The vocal is definitely José Carreras in his prime - as this clip demonstrates, he was a fabulous tenor until he got leukemia (thankfully he recovered, but vocally he was never quite the same):

I think these choices suit Shoma's style very well, and it's really noticeable how much he's grown as a skater / musical interpreter since his debut season!

(As a picky musician, though, I wish they'd done a better job with the cuts, which are too abrupt and noticeable IMO.)

After finally getting around to rewatch I can confidently say that I'm not worried about Turandot 2.0! :) In the last two seasons Shoma has made all of his programs work for me, even when I was pretty sceptical at first. At the beginning of last season I wasn't convinced by his "Ladies in lavender" SP, but he was able to completely convert me by the time 4CC came around. I think he totally flipped a switch there! With Loco it happened kinda gradually. I agree with all of you, who said that Shoma's musicality is outstanding and I think this is one of his strongest weapons, because it enables him to transform any choreography into sth. special.

The new Turandot already has many nice bits. Love the Ina Bauer after the 3Lo, the lunge after the 4F, the stsq already has many great parts too (the head-roll!), the inside spread-eagle before the second 3A, the chsq with the cantilever, the last spin. What I love in particular is how seamlessly coach Fluffy works the stsq into his programs. Many skaters stop and pose before it starts (or at least there's a clear indicator). That's never the case with Shomita's programs! All elements flow so well into each other! I have no doubt that as soon as the season starts all the empty spots will have been tended to. I'm sure we'll already see an improved version at "The Ice" in Nagoya (or at the very latest at "Friends on Ice")! :yes:

OMG the last translation bit was hilarious!

I can just imagine what Shoma was thinking "these older skaters are very strange". Same thing I always thought about my
older uncles, aunts and family members when I was Shoma's age.

Shoma is to funny loved his answers!
