Sounds like a bit of a rough skate for Shomita. I'll be anxious to see it. Men's scores:

Javi 189.47
Nathan 178.46
Shoma 175.45
Nobu 158.24
Jeremy 143.48
Bychenko 128.52

his layout was 4Lo, 4S (two-footed, stepout), 3A / 4F fall, 4T, 4T<<+REP, 3A1Lo, 3S
no combo made a comeback. Also people say he looked really tired more than usual when he finished.
not a good event for Sho and team Japan lost to team Europe by less than a point :slink: but to be fair the whole men's events was rough

I think it's rather good, perhaps even better that way. Expectations shouldn't be that Shoma skates clean like Lombardia all the time now.

Well, that's what worried me in Shoma's rough practice yesterday -- not that he had it (he has tons of practices that go wrong, it's OK), but that he himself was concerned and did not understand what was going on. I did not mean to cause any worries here, however -- so sorry if my message was read that way. Since we all know now that Shoma has new skates, we can safely assume that he needs some time to adjust to them.
On the brighter side, I am glad he did that opening 4Lo and then 4S, which is a real challenge for him at this moment. I am not too worried about 4T and 3A, to be honest, and even about his 4F -- I think they're going to be fine.
I hope Shoma's worst Turandot 2.0 is now behind us. Let's look positively at what awaits us in the future competitions! :luv17:

I really feel sorry for Shoma here. If he'd just nailed ONE more jump or got an extra point in PCS or GOE, Team Japan would have won. This must have been some kind of Deja-vu for Javi - thinking of Yuzu's free at ACI... :hopelessness:

He looked so tired. Save your energy for the real competitions, ShoSho. Although it is regrettable, in Japan. I dislike Team Events. Because when you screw up alone, there is no one to feel bad for but yourself. Urgh, I really hope that for some reason Team Japan will not participate in Pyeongchang. I think they will make Yuzuru skate the Short and Shoma the Long, and it's going to exhausting enough as it is. And for what? They won't podium with their weak pairs and Ice Dance teams anyway. *argh*

yeah i agree and even though we all say it's not an important competition i think he will beat himself up because of that. In the kiss and cry he looked really frustrated with himself.

But to be honest, i think after seeing the program, i don't think it was as bad as i expected. Yeah he struggled with jumps but he kept fighting and that really wasn't like a complete meltdown. so well done to Sho

When I heard the score, I expected some total disaster. I've become so spoiled with his consistency. Definitely wasn't a total meltdown though, there was still cohesiveness to it, and he never gave up. Not a fan of the "why? why?" gesture, so hope maybe he drops that! He did look a bit tired, so hope he has a good balance of work/rest and beef/veggies planned. After all, he will skate this same program exactly 3 weeks from today at Skate Canada!

Can't remember if he skates in Carnival on Ice...Now I think I'll console myself by watching his 2015 J.O. Turandot and 2016 J.O. Loco.:dance3:

demarinis5, very cute photo of him with his crazy uncle. And (oh my!), you have a new avatar?! Is it Uncle Dai in his purple velvet pants?!:yahoo:

Oh!! OH! OHHH!....my favourite two men together!!! I hope that Dai will talk to Shoma a lot and build him up!!! Those two are forever Number 1!

I hope this isn't the beginning of a 'Japan/Home Ice Curse' for Shoma, because all the competitions where he didn't do so well were in Japan lately. Would be unfortunate if he won't be able to live up to the expectations at GPF and not good for his self-esteem.

he did well at WTT in Japan. It was his last competition there and he won it both individual and team so i don't think it is a Japan curse at all.
also he does need to qualify 1st for GPF, of course we know how good he is and how he deserves to be in the final but performances like today show that with that level of risk there is a possibility to fail.

Ah, true, I forgot about WTT. But WTT & Japan Open are weird 'competitions' anyway. I don't even want to think about him not qualifying. I cannot imagine that happening honestly. I can see that he won't necessarily win both SC and France, as Chan and especially Fernandez at their best are hard to beat even on his best day, but two second places would be enough. No, I just don't see him not making it.
