actually Mr Amano was not a judge but the tech specialist. so that should shut the people who yell Shoma URs up (it won't). That he managed to get all level 4s on spins and footwork with mr Amano is also telling.

Actually i really enjoyed his winter. Loved the new costume and i thought he really skated beautifully. the no combo is annoying though but considering how nervous and downright scared he looked in warm-up and before the program i was quite happy with what he did.

for the sweat stains I always thought he doesn't sweat that much tbh. He sweats from his face/ hair but he doesn't seem to sweat too much in general

Thank you for the info about Mr. Amano. I just heard about him a couple of days ago and did not realize he was a tech specialist. So the mystery continues who
is Judge 8.

LOL Sho will still have his naysayers even with the harsh Mr. Amano on the tech panel.

judge 8 was Tomoko KURIYAMA. No clue who that is though.

My gosh, what SP? I've been bothered all day by that costume! There's barely any fabric on the top! :tantrum::eek: I read a post on Twitter earlier, remembering how Shoma said (in the TV show where he did the darts contest) that he would skate naked if he could, and he's now halfway there. :laugh2: The fans in this fandom are hilarious! Is this the team's way of declaring that he's an adult now??

Plus, we're really talking about sweating now?:agree: I think he just doesn't have a lot of sweat glands in certain areas, just as he's not a hairy type of guy. The clean-looking ones are the best! (Although I must admit that some men look better when they're a bit rugged...makes me wonder how Shoma would look with facial and chest hair... Ugh. :noshake:) Thank you for all the funny posts, people here are always so funny! Special mention to nolangoh for the "I know I sound like a pervert..."!

He absolutely is. His skin looks (and probably actually is) so smooth except his face because it is cracking. Sorry I know I sound like a pervert but I am just stating facts :)

I'm not sure they will keep this costume. I tried not to look, I swear, but it is transparent and light, there is no mesh fabric underneath. Shoma has no hair on his chest, so we can see it all. Well, who knows, he stated he would skate naked if he could once. It's a beautful costume, but why do they always change it? Is the other costume in the laundry?

The new costume has all the best parts of what I liked about the summer shows costume and gets rid of what I didn't like (no illusion mesh!) and even adds purple and feathers and I love it!!!

I love it too (more color, no illusion mesh, so purple!), but it still bothered me! I kept looking at pictures of him in it the whole day while I was Christmas shopping, and trying to figure out if there was anything underneath except skin! :dbana: I'm wondering which costume he'll actually wear in future competitions. The white and black one (when the pants part became black, I mean) is really pretty as well. They give different impressions.

He shouldn't be too discouraged by this. I think he's on a good way. I hope he won't make many mistakes in the free though. I'd like to see something more akin to Skate Canada than to the GPF. Keep the Lombardia LP for Pyeongchang, I say.

*lol* at fyshomauno they discuss if there is illusion mesh in the costume after all....I agree, I think there is, but it's the best illusion mesh I've ever seen, no wonder it's Satomi Ito, the lady who knows what she's doing. If there weren't you would be able to see Shoma's nipples, so I think it's just on the very front and it's not in the V-neck like with the Turandot costume. At least we got armpit hair. Shoma embraced the adult life and shows off his muscles, the rascal!

This is the funniest look Shoma gave to Fluffy when he came back after the skate. :)

Enjoyed reading the post-skate interview. It's good to analyze how things went, but he doesn't have to be all super kuyashii and overthink everything. My gosh, to get a 96 even with a costly error -- still a pretty decent skate, especially considering Mr. Carrot Man was on the panel!!!!

As far as the costume, I think I still like the original gray one better. Thank goodness for hairy armpits. Remember that vest he wore in one of the ice shows this past summer. I kept looking at him and thinking, he looked like one of those hairless cats, complete with his cat-like expressions! :scard8:

ETA -- Oops, 2 things to add: I thought Shoma looked absolutely beautiful out there for the SP.! That step sequence is gorgeous, and his final spin was so nicely centered. Now if he can just stop over-cooking his 4Ts. :luv17:

I was curious about the SP combination jump at the GPF. Turns out Sho did a 4T + 3T and received 18.06 points total for it. For the Nats SP, he received 7.33 on the invalid element. Huge difference. Darn!

So, a potential score of 107.56 [(18.06-7.33) +96.83]? I hope we see it this season!

Actually, I do believe Shoma is capable of more -- his 3A was far from ideal yesterday, he has shown throughout the season that he can nail this element with +2.5/+3 GOE. 4F was good overall, but not ideal either. His PCS could be higher, at least ca. 47 or higher (surely not 45.99 he got at Nats), if he skates really well. So, I think something like 110 is the score he can achieve if he shines in this program. But this is all still the potential that he needs to realize and convert into something practical in his skating, and it's a pity he has not yet shown this kind of potential to judges this season. He will need a perfect SP at the Olympics if he wants to fight for gold...

I think, Shoma has a few surprises for us in the LP. Apparently, practicing 2A-4T was not a joke and he seriously considers including it in the layout. Could be a game changer at the Olympics, particularly if he replaces that 3Lo with 4S in the first part... Anyway, it's so exciting to see him playing with jumps like this to get his BV higher. Such a clever team!

I think if he has a mistake in the SP and is 5 points off 100 he can still fight for the Gold in PC. Of course it depends on the other skaters, but Shoma's LP perfectly skated is hard to beat from all the men. So if the SP is not pristine clean there is still a chance.

My guess is that 100 will be a minimum score for entering the final warm-up group in the LP... Of course, there's always a chance anyway, but he certainly needs to be in this final group of skaters to compete for the podium, and any mistake in the SP will be costly... I do believe he can skate clean at the Olympics though.

Yes, that's true. But there are 6 skaters in the last group. I'm not sure if they all hit 100. Nathan and Javier are pretty sure over 100 I guess, the others could be or perhaps not. I wouldn't bet on the top 6 men all having scores over 100. Shoma can crack 100 with mistakes, too. And of course there is less pressure to perform a perfect LP if you had a great SP. As long as Shoma is in that last group, I don't worry too much, even if he's fourth or fifth after the SP and the difference isn't over 10 points. I trust in his LP.
