Sho's later practice. Seems so odd to have them be super early and then late. Oh well, they're used to it. He needs some yakiniku for strength. Maybe his Nagoya buddies can deliver it to him...Personally, I prefer what I had -- spaghetti carbonara!

Shoma Uno: 2A, 3S, 3Lo, 3A, 4T, 2F, 4F(<<,2ft,step), 4F(ur,fall), 4F(2ft,turn), 4Lo(<<,step), runthru (4Lo(ur,fall), 4F, 3Lo, 3A, 3T(fall), 4T(turn), 3A1/2Lo3F(step), 3S(fall))

Thank you for all the updates 💕💕💕 Hope that you are having a great time in Milan and please cheer extra loud for our Shom for all of us fans. I wish I would have a chance to see him live and cheer for him at a competition. I’m going to Japan this November and wish that he would be competing at NHK Trophy so that I can finally get to watch him in person.

Being a Shoma’s fan for long enough that I wouldn’t even care about how he does in practice anymore. You know disastrous practice means wonderful showing in real competition. I’m not jinxing him but you know, nothing but respect for my 2018 World champion Shoma Uno ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💕💕💕💕

You are like me -- I have been talking about GP assignments, and this season isn't even over yet! That's great that you are going to Japan. I kind of doubt that he would get NHK, and I don't know if that's even an assignment he would want. The 2 times he was at Sk Amer, he was very well received by the crowds, and he did well at Sk Can last year. He has done France twice too. I wonder if it really matters to him.

Thanks Arriba. Typical Shoma practice. According to Jackie Wong the mens practice was a mess, but you know that.

https://twitter.com/sponichisports/status/976058274075181056 according to this, Shoma's having some boot adjustment issues, which are affecting his jumps.
He was able to cleanly land the 4t-3t, but the 4F was not clean at the practice. He changed boots after the Olympics as they were beginning to break down.
"It's as you see, the adjustments didn't go well" "It's a lack of adjustment on my part, but it's not the end, I'll do my best"

I think this is the first time I've heard about boot adjustments for Shoma.

Hello ! I've been lurking here since the Olympics. I was only following ice dance before but it seems I fell under the spell/incredible musicality/intensity of Shoma's programs ^^ It even led me to take tickets for the men and ice dance FS next Saturday (maybe I'm a bit crazy, but I live in France so it's not too far). I can't wait to see Shomajesty perform live :D and I wanted to thank you all for this incredible fan fest, I feel less alone in my new obsession reading it >< Gambatte Shoma !

Welcome Algae to GS and to Shoma's FF. Shoma has that effect on people, they have to come out of their lurkedom and I am glad that you did.

A few of the folks from FF will be at Worlds. I hope you get to meet them and cheer for Shoma together.

We have a lot fun in here! :)

Hey everyone, I'm a fairly new fs fan since the Olympics, and Shoma was one of my favorites from the start! I absolutely love his programs (I think my favorite is his SP to Legends), and I'm so looking forward to seeing him at Worlds, since it'll be the first time I'm watching. Although, I've been reading that his jumps are 'scary' and I'm not entirely sure what that means. Can anyone explain what people mean about his jump technique? Also I'm really sorry if that's been asked like a thousand times. Honestly, when I see his jumps the only difference I can see between his and more technically strong jumps is that he looks a little more tilted in the air, does that make a big difference?

Welcome echeveria to Shoma's FF. Yes Legends was one of my favorites SP but then again I have loved all of his short program so far.

As to Shoma's jumps we in FF are aware of his jump technique which is always not the best but not as bad as some of his critics make out to be.
He works very hard on trying to correct his jump issues.

I suggest that you go into any of the competition threads and it just does not have to be men he is criticized even in the Ladies threads too. Shoma is unjustly criticized for everything
under the sun as if he is the only skater competing in the world that has issues. We in FF tend to focus at the great things that
Shoma does his skating skills, musicality, step sequence, his gorgeous costumes, and yes even his well executed jumps which he does do.

There is a reason he is the Olympic and World Silver Medalist.

Welcome, aglae and echeveria!! If you're in Milan and wish to meet up, feel free to PM.

Let's all cheer for Shoma together!

If you want to see what they're talking about regarding his jumps, watch his junior programs, or better yet, his 2014-15 season (final junior year), when he was doing 3As and 4Ts already. This will also give you an idea regarding how his jumps have improved since.

Another practice later, event competitions start tomorrow!

Shoma has the ability to 'save' jumps and land them, when other skaters would fall. He has an amazing knee bend, and the 'scary' part might be people scared for his knees. He is quite small for a male figure skater and has shorter legs which helps, but his jumps aren't as high as Boyang Jin's for example.

You said you watched Legends, so you also might've watched other programs of Shoma's in 2015. Just look at his jumps back then, and look at them now. He has improved a lot and added very difficult Quads. Unfortunately sometimes he gets stiff, tired or nervous and the quality of his jumps goes down. He still lands them because he is so good at saving them BUT he is also judged on how he executes his jumps. So while he is technically up there with the best, he loses out on Grade of Execution against skaters like Javier Fernandez who has 'easier' jumps but when he lands them, they look pretty smooth and not as scratchy as they sometimes do with Shoma. It is something he is very aware of and works on. He is young and has landed amazing jumps with great flow out that deserve high GOE's. So he can do it. Now his main task is increasing the amount of good quality jumps he lands in a program, because that's where he loses points.

Welcome Aglae and echeveria!!! I am so happy we have more and more Shoma fans joining us in this thread!

Shoma's jumps used to have a "scary" landing when he landed with excessive torque (rotational force) where you can see his body was open and twisted to the side. I used to be scared by it and my knees said "ouch!". But he has improved the power and tremendously and his landings improved so much since then. The landings are much more steady and stable (sometimes though the landings of the Triple Axels retain such scratchiness but the entry and exit to the jumps are extremely difficult, which is also a huge improvement given this was his nemesis jump). As MaiKatze has said, Shoma is very aware of the quality of his jumps and he works very hard on improving them. He also has one of the most difficult jump layout in the field with his iconic Axel+Half Loop+Flip combo, and quads in the second half.

In addition to his jumps, Shoma is also famous for, as you have experienced, his musicality and exquisite skating skills and edge quality, which has been credited by many skating coaches and commentators around the world.

Let us all cheer for him! I wish you a happy time here on GS. Post often! :):)

With boots problems I hope Shoma can skate well enough to get atleast Bronze. And the other Japanese skaters skate well enough to keep three spots. I have been concerned every since the post on here of the skates going to the restaurant. I was like oh no not new boots. There is a post in practice thread that he left practice. Sad thing is I do not think there is anything that can be done. Just bad Luck.

I don't think getting a bronze is going to be a challenge for Shoma even with his boot problems ;). He's a very strong contender for gold even when he's not completely clean. Shoma is the most complete skater competing at world's so he definitely has an edge over the others, but the boot problems are very concerning since he seems so stressed.

Darn - right before Sho's group went on the ice, I moved to where Fluffy had her bar yesterday. Then today, she had her bar set up in a different spot. I walked over to that part of the arena, and when I got there I was stunned to see that Fluffy and Shoma were gone! And he never came back out on the ice. Hugely disappointed! Had been there since 11 am, and it was now after 8 pm. Only for Shomita!

During the time I sat there hoping he would come back on the ice, I saw someone from Team Japan carrying a bag of ice cubes. That made me nervous! Of course the important thing is that he's ok.:sad4: :drama:

Shomajesty right before he went on the ice. Shortly after, conferring with Fluffy at the bar.
