It could be from the boots and fall he had in morning training session. They don't give diagnosis or definitive statement from Japan federation. Probably will ice and rest overnight and re-evaluate in morning. Hopefully it is not something severe like sprain or fracture. He apparently was walking on that leg so either he has high pain threshold or it is minor injury. Trying to stay positive

Honestly, I'm glad he left the practice if he was injured. I was really looking forward to seeing him compete (even though he still could), but it's better that he rests instead of making it worse. I think he's said multiple times that he's not the type to push himself too hard, so it's good to see that he's taking care of himself. I hope he doesn't rush his recovery, but still I hope he feels better soon ^^

I hope it's not too bad :( and that he doesn't force himself to compete on an injury to insure Japan's spots :S

Some athletes would just push past the pain and keep training which could lead to further injury. To his credit, he reported the pain and did the best thing by resting and icing. Now it is just a waiting game to see if it is more severe or side effect of the falls/adjusting to his new boots.

I hope he is resting well and not forcing anything. No jumps tomorrow please, especially quads. I hope the people at the rink would help him fix the boots as much as they can (Jackie Wong said there are boots technicians there). And if he decides to go on, drop the Flip.

I'm a bit lost, what would happen for Japan if Shoma withdrew ? Is it too late to get another substitute ? How high should Keiji and Kazuki place to keep at least 2 spots for Japan ?

their added placement must be 28 or less.

I think he was assisted to get into the bus because they don’t want to risk him using his feet when he is in pain so it wouldn’t swell and to rest it completely. He was walking into and out of the ice so i think (and hope) they’re just being extra cautious. It has spread on twitter like a wildfire that he couldn’t walk so let’s wait until we have official news from the JSF.

The news article seemed quite vague; they didn't confirm it was definitely injured, but said that he left the ice smiling saying "it's okay".

Crossing fingers!

^ Somewhat reassuring, but he's always grinning and taking stuff in stride. He has such an optimistic attitude.

I hope he's okay! I really want him to take the world title, but I want him to be able to take care of himself more, obviously. Hopefully he will skate and kill it, but if he can't, I hope he rests up!

Everything is just speculation at this point. All we know for sure is that he has been having boot issues and that he had right ankle pain last night. Let's wait for further updates, and hope for the best.

ETA- oops, just what gftn said. [emoji16]
