Koylada is going to camp too for at least three weeks. Then he is going to Nathan coach. If those new rules past the men are going to need stable jumps. You will need distance and height and two of the other points to get 4s without distance and height the highest get is 2s even with transition. Also you cant get higher than 8s in skating skills with falls. It will be a game changer where you cant medal with those falls. That is what I got from the proposed rules so Koylada and others I think are taking action. I hope Shoma is too behind the scenes. Mao Asada was my favorite skater and her early coach cost her alot by not correcting her jump technique. She tried to go back and learn correct technique so she could jump the triple lutz. Mao had to depend on triple axle and high risk because her technique prevent her from doing triple triple toe. I love Mao and regret that she was taught correct jump technique.
 
I wouldn't assume that Shoma is standing still and doing nothing. We have no way of knowing what he is doing right now with his training. Heck, he was in Canada for 3 weeks and we didn't even know it!
 
Shoma has shown enormous growth under the coaching team he's been with for all his life. He's been with these people and he turned from a skater who was an artistic skater into a skater that has one of the best Triple Axels in the World. Look at his junior career. He was so behind, spent long years as lower tier, not reaching the podiums and the JGPF. Look at Shoma when he started out in the senior scene. With just a 4T and still a shaky 3A. If you cannot see the progress to the man who became World Silver and Olympic Silver medallist...well, idk what to say. And to think that Shoma would stand still now, because he remains with the coaches that were fundamental in his success is beyond logic, just because they are not called Brian Orser or Rafael Arutyunyan, who are not magicians no matter what. We will see what the next years bring.
 
Agree 100% MK Shoma is where he needs to be.

I remember that darn 3A and the trouble he had and how we all cheered when Sho finally landed the 3A.

Now look at him with a full arsenal of jumps. Pretty impressive.

Yeah, and Shoma repeatedly communicated in interviews that he is aware of his weaknesses, like GOE's and that he wants to improve the artistic side of his skating. That he isn't satisfied with the 2017/2018 season at all. And concerning programs, every top contender played it safe this season. Let's just wait and have a look at his programs before we accuse him of standing still or even regressing.
 
I also have full trust that Shoma and his coaches know what they are doing and what they need to be working on. And also we need to wait and see what the new rules will be, nothing is certain yet, isn't it?

I'm a bit sad that I haven't been following Shoma closely from his junior days, I used to be a casual fs watcher. I am so used now to his beautiful 3A that I simply could't believe when I heard how much trouble it caused him.
 
Imo Shoma is very smart, he definitely know how to "play" (win) the game...if I remember correctly, before 2017/18 season he said in a interview/ documentary that he wants (needs) to include more combination jumps in his FP, turned out he earned silver medal in GPF 2018 cox he landed ALL 3 combination jumps in the 2nd half that greatly boosted his BV. Thus I truly believe Shoma is now working on 4S and GOE of his jumps.

Besides...Shoma keeps upgrading himself every season...technique wise, from 4T to 3A, then 4F and 4Lo, adding combination jumps then backloading them to boost BV TES (I guess other fans can explain better on his jumping improvements) . Artistic wise he skates EX programmes by different choreographers, as well as trying different music genres.
 
In one of Kotaro's recent Tweets, didn't we hear that Kotaro told Shoma "I know how busy you are right now, but hang in there" ? I have a hard time believing he was saying Shoma was busy because he's cheering on Rook, going to the Red Bull event, and practicing his batting and pitching skills. All we can do is wait for more news! Off-season is so hard! :sad4: :console: :ghug:
 
Just one week to go until Heroes & Future. I mean, we do see him and hear of him all the time during this off-season. The hard months are probably still ahead. June, July....but perhaps not for you, Arriba! :)
 
I haven’t been following Shoma for very long - so I had no idea that he had struggled with his (now amazing) 3A!

I have no doubt that Shoma will continue to progress - both technically and artistically.
 
Yes I agree with MK. I know that the worry for Shoma because everyone seems to make quite a significant move came from the good of people’s heart but we also have to remember that post-olympic is the time where nearly every skater will make their move. A lot can still change in the next year or two. Shoma just had a very big and rough season and has been working a lot in ice shows as well. A week or two off is very well deserved.
 
when i worried about shoma, i always make my self remember how for 5 years he struggle with 3A, very glad he didn't go into desperation and stop FS. This is what make me think why he have a strong mentality (just think going compete without 3A in a competition where the other jump easily, but rather than make him down it just motivated him more)

And because his quite demeanor sometimes we forgot that he HATE losing to anyone !! So, with this in my mind it calm me that he will do anything to achieve what he want (even it mean working 10x harder)

Very true, Insos. I think many would've given up on the sport after they reached the point, that ceiling that Shoma reached with the triple Axel. It's hard to imagine how strong Shoma really is, because I would definitely have given up. Not only is falling every time painful and exhausting, I think after a while (years of training, day after day, after day) you reach the point where nothing works and you ask yourself why you even do that anymore, continue, continue, continue....and for what? He must love skating so much to not have lost hope, because the hard jumps didn't come naturally to him.

And yes, Shoma HATES to lose. I'm sure he will channel his frustration into next season, where his motto will be 'To Attack!!!!' with four exclamation marks. :thumbsup:
 
Oda might go crazy if he uses ATTACK!!!! again! Maybe this year he should use MAKETAKUNAI with one !. (I hate to lose).
 
I hope that he can achieve many clean skates and 'be satisfied' with all his performances - after all, we know that he always gives his best :)
