Shoma works super hard, never gives up and is always trying to improve. Something that I love about him is that he really knows what he wants to achieve and he'll get it through hard work. The struggle with the 3A and his motivation to keep going is the best example of how tough he is. As I've said before, his "only the brave" Diesel t-shirts fit him perfectly because few are as brave to overcome what he has.

Next season I would love to see him attacking, satisfied and happy (just as he was at the 2016 TCC, remember?). We've seen him enjoying some very well deserved time off but I'm sure next season he'll come back stronger than ever because he'll be working hard all summer and all through the season.

He knows he doesn't have to do what many are doing but what works for him.

I would give anything to know what he's doing right now! There is no way he's taking a vacation! Maybe he's not doing his 5 hour killer practices, but I have a feeling they're working on bits and pieces of choreography, possibly working with Satomi Ito on his costumes, etc. He has a lot of stuff to get done before the season starts. He needs to polish the new EXs. I can't imagine he'll be ready in time for Lombardia. Who knows, maybe he'll do Nebelhorn instead?!

I'm also dying to know what they're "cooking" for next season!! Surely he and his team are really busy, there are so many things that need to be done!! How exciting is this??? I feel like a cat because curiosity is killing me...haha!

And remember, we want Nebelhorn so MaiKatze may go!!!!

It is interesting that it seems suddenly we only have two couches in figure skating world. (Brian Orser / Rafael Arutyunyan) And everybody has to go to work with them. Just like dragon balls. lol Oh. Maybe three couches. Dont forget Eteri Georgievna.
Idk whether it is good for a sport that very a few couches have all top competitors. Imho I dont like "clans."

As for shoma, I only hope he would work with various choreographers. Ex, competitive pg or other forms (like loco which is choreographed by Fluffy and polished by Lambiel), no matter which way would be fine. More challenges more growths.

Anything is possible, but I'll be very surprised if he doesn't work with Stephane again. He seems to work really well with him. He worked with him on Loco and LiL and last year on Winter.

I hope Shoma will work w/ Stephane soon! Stephane is good at artistry (and handsome hahahaha), from his comments/ answers in interviews i feel that he understands Shoma very well

I’ve been watching a lot of old You Tubes just to keep myself from going crazy during the off season, as I know many of you have been doing too. The following remarks are from the GPF2016 press conference. It’s so refreshing that someone asked a question about something other than jumps, jumps, jumps! And I loved Shoma’s thoughtful answer.

Question to Shoma – It’s the 3rd time I see you in the final – once in the juniors and twice in seniors. I wanted to ask you – last year and the year before, you were like a dynamo on the ice – a bombshell. And this year, apparently, you’ve worked tremendously on your style, body line, and theatricality. I wanted to know if it was conscious and how did you improve that style so much in the year.

Answer -- To be honest, I don’t exactly know what would be the right training to polish up my expression. But I do have the images of the movement of what I would like to accomplish. I look at myself in the mirror and try to get close to the images I have in my mind. Also, I have a lot of emotions inside of me and try to express that with my movement.

That's so cool !!! It makes me think a bit of that documentary where he looks at a video of himself and comments on the wrong position of his hand ^^
"I have a lot of emotions inside of me" -> take that post OG haters who said he doesn't feel anything/he doesn't care.

Also, I want to see the face of Shoma eating salad

Speaking of youtube there's a new video with Shoma's SP from Pyeongchang, team event + single event (side by side). Hope it won't get deleted: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIVj2dDF2LU

Thanks for sharing!! :thank: He is just beautiful to watch. The lines and the refinement of movement, just gorgeous. And then add to that Winter that is a great program. His happy face afterwards is just :luv17: Olympic silver medalist Shoma Uno! Worth of repeating :hap36:

Shoma has shown enormous growth under the coaching team he's been with for all his life. He's been with these people and he turned from a skater who was an artistic skater into a skater that has one of the best Triple Axels in the World. Look at his junior career. He was so behind, spent long years as lower tier, not reaching the podiums and the JGPF. Look at Shoma when he started out in the senior scene. With just a 4T and still a shaky 3A. If you cannot see the progress to the man who became World Silver and Olympic Silver medallist...well, idk what to say. And to think that Shoma would stand still now, because he remains with the coaches that were fundamental in his success is beyond logic, just because they are not called Brian Orser or Rafael Arutyunyan, who are not magicians no matter what. We will see what the next years bring.

This! I remember watching Shoma at 4CC 2015 and being completely mesmerized by his skating, but I was also a bit doubtful about his growth trajectory. His jumps were a bit messy and it just seemed unrealistic for him to be competitive technically. Flash forward to 3 years later and I've never been happier to be proven wrong. Year by year, his weaknesses become less glaring and that's entirely due to the efforts of a smart coaching team and a diligent and talented pupil. Brian is a brilliant coach, but let's not forget that his most successful students, Yuna and Yuzu, were absolute phenoms who very likely would've succeeded without his guidance. I love Brian but he's not the only coach who's capable of producing total package skaters.

This article is from 2014 so surely it was posted here before (sorry if recently!). Maybe someone has not seen it. Shoma placed 5th at Junior Worlds back then but for the journalist he was the joy number one there. Here´s the introduction paragraph of the article:

2014 Junior Worlds, a short list of joys: Uno, Radionova, Krylova, Orser

To me, the highlight of the event hosted last week by the Winter Palace in Sofia, Bulgaria, was definitely the presence of the 16-year-old Shoma Uno. And I have to be honest with you: after watching and rewatching Shoma’s short program, skated on „The Blessed Spirits”, I’m sure the future of the Japanese figure skating is on good hands. The boy already has the package suited for a champion: musicality, talent, charisma – and a wonderful sense of humility. And if it hadn’t been for the missed Triple Axel in the free („Steps” by Secrety Garden), he might have gotten a Junior World medal around his neck, alongside the small one (the bronze) after the short. No need to hurry: he’ll get there soon enough.
