I have been listening to Gabriela's music all afternoon. The guy is brilliant!
Oh my Shomita is really going to melt the ice. Perfect match!

We Ready!:luv17:

i guess last season Shoma team playing safe because of the OWG. But this season they burn us!
Jazz √
clubbing √
flamenco √
next? (send prayer to the universe isn't warhorses) 😂

It seems like Shoma is pushing himself and skating to new genres (a bit like in real life!)
I like that :)

One more guess from yawning_shoma twitter: PPA by Rodrigo y Gabriella. ( Btw, I doubt this because the piece is about unpleasant people they have met in music business and the first P is for not a nice word, the rest PA means "personal assistants".)

The song doesn't have any lyrics so I don't see any problem. The music is really good and if I hadn't read your post, I wouldn't had guessed it was about anything unpleasant. If that's their choice, let's enjoy the rhythm and Shoma's skating! 😉

P. S. I think it's only used as a bad word in Mexico, it has different meanings in other Spanish-speaking countries.

Picante pero sabroso. Dying to know the music. Those ending chords sounded pretty fiery. Perfect for His Royal Hotness. sizzle, sizzle.

Or as we say: "chiquito pero picoso" (something like tiny but spicy or hot). Soon we'll find out about the music!!!

He just has to always skate last from now on even though he hates it because there will be a swimming pool instead of an ice rink after he's done

:laugh2:

OMG that is so funny! Sho is getting fangirled for real!

:laugh2:

Super like! Let's hope the FS is just as surprising as the 2 exs and the SP!! Yei Shoma!!!

We ready!! :yahoo:

The PPA tracks has several parts that could be use for a killer step sequence! No wonder he said the program is insanely difficult. Mihoko sensei is not playing around and will get rid of that level 3 steps once and for all! Lol

Shoma's new program looks absolutely amazing. His coach really does know how to pick music that best shows off all of his wonderful qualities.

I found this playlist of Shoma's practices from the Olympics. Also his performance of the SP and FS. I would recommend watching it in reverse order. For the videos that are sepia toned click the link on the description to watch the video.:)
I enjoy watching Shoma's practice videos, I find them very relaxing and entertaining. There is a 28min video of Shoma's SP practice from Skate Canada and at some point in the rink they start playing Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me Maybe and Shoma is mouthing and singing along to the song. It's so cute. The video was taken down:( but I will always have that memory.

I've read on Twitter that some people are worried that Shoma's FS will be a warhorse, possibly POTO. I personally don't like POTO or any musical used in a skating program. When it's good it's good but I'm generally put off by it. If Shoma skated to it I know it would be original and Fluffy will do interesting choreography and Shoma would make it his own. I'm absolutely sure that his FS music won't be a warhorse. I'm hoping for something Japanese, maybe classical or modern. I've been hearing a lot of classical Japanese music and I really want Shoma to skate to music inspired by Japanese mythology & folklore. I think it would be cool if he skated to it and it would definitely be unique and something no one has ever skated to before.

We'll see how the sp goes if it's going to be mixture of slow and fast or just fast and intense then maybe they'll go with a bit of mellow music for the fs?

This is probably an unpopular opinion but I love well executed warhorse programs :slink:. There's just something so grand and vivacious about warhorses.

me too! maybe it's because I'm still pretty new to the world of figure skating, so I'm less sick of hearing the same music used over and over like other fans, but I think that a great interpretation of a warhorse can be pretty epic. I really like Winter and Turandot, although I am very, very ready and excited to leave them in this past season and get new music and programs for the Prince :yahoo:

PPA would be fine for me. It is a great piece. I was only doubting whether they would use it because choreographers check the story of the piece even if it is instrumental and in many cases try to express it too in their work. I got right away interested in what those letters stand for and found an explanation very quickly. But soon we´ll know what they have decided!!!

I don't actually mind warhorses when the skater can properly carry it. I think Shoma was able to carry Turandot quite well, although the quad layout changes throughout the season kind of spoiling it just a teeny bit. As the B.ESP commentators said even with 3 enormous falls he was still able to create a moment. In the end, it's a good learning curve for both him and Mihoko sensei.

My question is did he drop Time after time just like he dropped La vie en Rose? will he ever skate it again?

I agree, gftn. I would even go further and say that Shoma can not only carry a warhorse, he can interpret it in new ways that haven't been done before, and that's an amazing skill to have. The problem with warhorses in general is that they are usually used because they are easier to interpret than a never been done piece of music. Everyone knows what to expect when a skater skates to Carmen. If you really want to make a piece your own, and be remembered for the ages, do not use a warhorse. But not everyone is able to skate to something new and fresh. This is not about Shoma but the pair Savchenko/Massot skated to a soundtrack that hasn't (as far as I know) been used for skating before. Sui/Han chose the ever reliable Turandot. Mistakes aside, you will have heard many people said that Savchenko/Massot would go down in the history with one of the best pairs programs ever. If Sui/Han had won with Turandot, it wouldn't have been the best pair program ever, it would just have been another skate of Turandot. In my opinion they rested on their laurels and played it safe which played part in their loss too. They were a fresh and modern pair, they have the goods to skate to something new and did it before, but not here.

Concerning POTO, the fear comes from the fact that this is one of the few pieces of music we have an opinion on from Shoma. (Other than the Kimi no na wa soundtrack). He watched his biggest idol Daisuke Takahashi skate to it at Worlds and he was a flower boy at japanese Nationals when Daisuke skated to it. It moved him deeply and he mentioned it quite a bit. So it might be his secret wish to also skate to POTO. If he does, I'm sure he could do it and be great at it. I'd rather he not, but there are a few things I hate even more than POTO so should he decide on POTO one day, at least it's not...well, something else I won't write down here. I just do not want a version with lyrics. Come to think of it, Shoma is one of the few (only?) men who has skated to a piece from a female singer (Milva). Interesting. I think normally the male skaters use male singers for their program. Pretty cool.

Regarding Time after Time, I don't think he dropped it. He will probably skate to it again, either in later shows, but definitely in exhibition galas in the season. It might be another switch situation between Time after Time/Great Spirit like with See you again/This Town. Why he skates to Great Spirit now all the time? Granted this is only speculation on my part. He said at PIW he likes Great Spirit better. It's a much more fun program than Time after Time. Shoma enjoys skating to it, he's young, he's into the club thing. So he decides, I'm skating to my fun exhibition, because it's my favourite. And perhaps the audience reaction was better? I mean, this is piece that gets the crowd going. Just my two cents on the topic. I think it's harder to entertain with pieces like La vie en rose or Time after Time. This mellow thing - you gotta be in the mood, and maybe Shoma is in the summer club mood, atm.

Well said MK! Personally I think once Shoma's committed to a program he will project it as his own, although I feel like he prefer a more exciting type of music wether it's a warhorse or not.

Edited:
I'm not sure where the POTO thing came from but as far as I can recall it was only mentioned by a twitter fan account (that has quite a bit of followers) which stating that she's preparing for the worst like Shoma skating to POTO. After that other accounts were kind of making it as if that was a rumour instead of just an opinion. Unless I was wrong and there was rumour from any of Japanese fans?

Just listening to Rodrigo y Gabriela on spotify, and well, wow. I'm in love! Thank you Fluffy for finding this great music! (I wanna take a peak at her record collection!)

Interesting. Although don't forget, it is sung from the male point of view anyway, with the male poetic 'I', so to speak. :) So, in terms of gender reversal, it is Milva who is doing interesting things here. :)
