wikipedia can say what they want...this music is not flamenco and it's not Spanish style... I know the music of my own country...

I am not an expert in Spanish music, I confess, but some chords and progressions there are just a definition of Spanish style, at the very least as it was and still is perceived in the European culture (might be not 100 percent authentic, I don't know...). I mean, when you hear the descending I-VII-VI-V bass in the 'natural minor', leading from T to D (or, as most theorists would explain it, a 'phrygian' scale leading from S to T; whatever), you know which territory you're in. :)

I don't want to discuss ... but I repeat that's not flamenco and not all kind of music played with a Spanish guitar has Spanish style.
A lot of latin countries use Spanish guitar for their own rythms like Cuba,Peru,Mexico...usually people confuse concepts and for example think Mexican hat is Spanish and things like that...
it's the same that a few years ago in Short dance with Spanish ryhtms ,I remember Zhingansina / Gaszi used a Cuban song thinking it was Spanish just because the lyrics was in Spanish...
And also...the same beats and the same rythm don't mean the same style...

You don't want to discuss it, but all your posts are about it? I think it's hard to understand, what you're trying to say. Are you disappointed because you expected an authentic Flamenco program from Shoma, and it's not it? Do you not like the music? Take a step back and enjoy it for what it is. Wait until you see the program. I'm sure Shoma means no disrespect and does not say 'This is true flamenco, people. And my choreo is true flamenco' It's not black/white like that.

Apparently it's this one -> https://twitter.com/SHOMAKUN_01/status/1005361137934667776
Can we take a moment to appreciate that he put it upside down ??

:laugh2: why is he like that? Although tbh I don't think I would know which is the back and the front too unless it has some kind of label on the inside.
I like this better than the last one, I like the tattoo idea, don't know if I'm the only one  And the bandana is back yasssss I missed it

Edit: Oh I think I understand now why he put it with the other side in front...maybe he thought that those mermaids are a little too much and he is mostly filmed from the front

No,I don't expect a true flamenco program I am just trying to explain people that are confused. Sorry if my post sound rude, but my English i bad. I really love Shoma and I wouldn't like he have bad critics like with Great Spirit just for have a bad concept of his program

I don't think you're here to be rude to Shoma, that's why I answered your post. I usually ignore people who come in here only to find fault with what Shoma does. That's why I said, take a step back. Why should he have bad critics? From whom? And is it really a bad concept? It's a program to a classical guitar version of Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven from a mexican guitar duo. That's what it is, and that's what we're going to get. Let's just wait and see what he does with this music.

Finally! Great Spirit! Way to challenge yourself Sho. FOUR new programs?! Awesome. Yes, smile that big smile. Sure hope I get to see Great Spirit soon.

I like the moves he has here :)
Costume-wise I was just getting used to the previous tattoo shirt, now we have a different one x)

All the news about the SP is getting me excited. Can't wait to see all 4 new programs sometime this year!

To think we 'only' got 'Winter' last season! I'm so glad that season is history, done and dealt with and over!!!

I think Ireth's problem was more with fans (me included, sorry) who labelled the music flamenco without real knowledge of Spanish music, but maybe I'm wrong ? I think it's always nice to have the point of view of people from different countries and how they perceived things we say without really thinking ?

yes...it's more what you say...I am just trying to explain people who think that's flamenco that they are wrong...but it's difficult for me because of the language and I think I have been misunderstanding...
Spanish haters can be very awful...and I am sure he have critiscism if
he used a wrong concept...
Sorry...for me it's like talk with a wall...I can't explain it better...
I never have said that the progrsm is bad...or that I won't like it...I only said that think that this is Spanish is wrong

The line is a dot at this point.

Shoma’s sooo into great spirit lol you can see it in his movement.

You probably know that, but Shoma-antis find fault in EVERYTHING he does. Whether it's music, technique, costumes, his expression, interviews....there is ALWAYS something wrong with him. These spaniards are not alone. There will never be universal love/approval of Shoma in this World. If he gets criticism for the music or his inauthentic 'not spanish' program, I don't think he'll care or lose sleep about it. Can't please everyone.

forget about it...I see that I can't explain what I mean...

Regarding the music, it is played on a spanish guitar so even if it’s not pure spanish music, people will associate it with that genre. Also, interpretation of music can be very creative and wide. Shoma or his team hasn’t actually said that it is a flamenco program but they might have used flamenco dance movement in the program as a way to interpret the music (as we can see from the clip). There’s no really right or wrong in this case, for example you can dance a ballet dance with a rock music or use hip-hop for contemporary ballet. It is an endless possibilities with music and movements.

I'm really, really digging that Great Spirit EX, questionable tattooed t-shirt and headband notwithstanding. July 8th can't get here soon enough (or even maybe June 23 if someone records the Nagano TV broadcast).

As a musicologist, I certainly know about these subtleties in stylistic issues. However, the kind of progressions I am referring to (and that I hear in the songs Shoma uses) are 'Spanish', at least as far as their historical perception/reception is concerned. And if they are choreographed in 'Spanish' style, I don't see any problem here. It's not necessarily authentic (as with Great spirit, too, which is not 'authentically' Indian), but that's another issue. You can similarly argue that what Bizet wrote in his Carmen is not 'Spanish' (it is not), but that's not the point -- it is the kind of 'Spanish' style that the European culture learned and continues to play with.
And yes, let's not engage in a debate about the program neither of us saw. :)

Yes, you explained it well. That was what I was also trying to say to Ireth. We are talking about 'art' here. Figure Skating is art and sport. In german it is called 'Eiskunstlaufen' literally 'Ice Art Skating'. So, if Shoma took 'Winter' for example, and put hip-hop moves in his choreography, that's a break of genres because one does not expect that. But he is free to do it - it is ART. You're not restricted to do ballet moves when you skate to Nutcracker or Swan Lake. On ice, it is almost impossible anyway. I have no idea if Loco had authentic Tango moves. Either way, like you said gftn, there is no right or wrong way in doing a program. If we say, this is not Flamenco and Shoma does Flamenco moves anyway, there is nothing wrong with it either.
