Finally got a chance to watch the SP and wow! Can't believe that's the first competition of the season! There are so many interesting parts that I want to re-watch. He seems very comfortable with it and I think the crowd will be able to get behind him. I am very impressed!

I thought so. I'd love for him to fully commit to it later because that gives it a wilder feel. But I love his clip and the squealing girls! [emoji23] [emoji23] [emoji23]

Congrats on the successful SP competition debut, Shomita!!:rock::rock:
Well, maybe Coach Fluffy told him not to mess up his hair. [emoji38]

Yey , 104! It's such an exciting program. I do wish they'd kept the choreo he did at The Ice at 1:07 on the video, after the spin: https://youtu.be/MqdXacFbs-0

(KAKKOII! Powerful!)
Rather than the one arm twist that he did during this competition and its practices, but the program is still very cool!

100% agree on that fiery part. Here he is going through it. Alex is telling him "Come on, come on!" https://t.co/JV9zBqBsvp As the music was intensifying, so was his movement. It was very intense here, even when he was at the end of a 40 minute practice. Not sure why they would have changed it. Maybe it was a timing issue for some reason. In a way, I was glad to read that he had that issue with tying his skates too tight, because we've all seen him skate it (in the ice shows) where the program keeps building and building. I guess he was holding back on the Step Sequence, so I hope he can get it up to a Level 4. (Did I read somewhere he was afraid he would get a Level 2 because he had to be so cautious!)

I feel like I've gotten so spoiled with him, and I expect so much of him! The program is actually in great shape considering how early it is in the season.

That's my observation too. With other skaters, even if they make big mistakes, the fans don't really make a big deal about the mistakes and instead compliment their program or other things about their performance. With Shoma, we (myself included) tend to be a little nitpicky, especially considering that it's quite early in the season. Maybe because we know what he's capable of, maybe because we've seen these programs in the shows and so we not only have expectations of him but also of his programs, or maybe because he himself has high expectations of himself. Whatever the reasons are, he's certainly held to a higher standard.

With other skaters, it's "It's his/her/their first competition, don't expect too much, it'll get better". With Shoma, "Well that was good, but this/that can be better, he needs to improve this" etc. It's a form of compliment though, that people have such high expectations of him.

I'm also voting for the return of that part of the choreo even though I have to accept that the new upward hand swish is also cool.

And yes, we're very spoiled with him because he's so good and have high expectations because we know what he's capable of. And he knows too, that's why he's hardly ever satisfied and aims for more. And that's another reason why we admire him ;)

I just watched the SP again and right away could see some things that he didn't execute even close to as well as he usually does -- his traveling (almost) sit spin is weak, his steps in general don't seem as purposeful, even his knee slide isn't a sharp movement like it usually is. These aren't bad things - it's actually good to think that we already know he does these things better (when he ties his skates properly!) Heck, some of those moves were even enough to make him stick his tongue out!

He stuck his tongue out because he stumbled on one of the turns (where he had both his arms over his face) during his step sequence- after the pause but way before the Ina Bauer. It wasn't obvious, I had to watch it several times before I saw it. [emoji1]

Yup, he did say that after he said "I tie my skates too tight..." in TV program "Every"'s interview.

Shoma: I want good performance, thus, if anyone saw my performance and found out anything not (good) enough, please point out.

p.s. some fans found out Shoma said "Abune~" after his SP

Dear Huncle,

It's great to know you didn't die  and thanks for your reports and pics! :luv17:
Enjoy all your time there and cheer loud on behalf of all :dbana:

Finally calculated the time and the men's FP starts at 4am my time. When is Shoma skating, an hour after that? Anyone going to stay up to catch the live stream? I am going to take a long nap and wake up in time to see Moonlight Shomita. See you all soon. :bed:

The men's starts at 6 am CST, and I want to see Tim Dolensky at 7:22. Last group starts at 7:51 am CST. Dmitri at 8:06 am. Shomita (also known as our favorite bulldozer) skates last at 8:21 CST. CST=Central Std Time - Chicago time, if that helps anyone.

I managed to mess up watching the short via livestream. All done and dusted before I even got out of bed - Drat. Am hoping I can figure out the livestream thing so I can watch the free in a few hours. Either way, I'm sure our man will do great and trust he'll be able to start the new season as official Numero Uno. Loving the black blades too!

I do find myself slightly envious of the honorary Dr H getting to experience Shomajesty's skating in the flesh, so to speak. Makes me feel better knowing there will be mad cheers and support there for Shoma from the Dead Banana Club's official representative. Enjoy the quality skating, Dr H, and thank-you (and your partner - sweet pic!) for sharing your good Shoma fortunes with us all.
