Hehe Shoma said he was going to lead Team Japan to victory and he did! :hap85:

I think Shoma is really going to grow this season, he seems focused but more grown up and confident off-ice. In addition he will get to see his hero Daisuke in competition again, and I hope he was able to watch Nobu's earlier skate, that was so much fun! How much more motivation can you get :)

The Instagram quote “please make Figure skating a culture and not a fad”.,, Tatsuki Machida’s wish? Well it already is, for me [emoji6]

With a massive arena like that completely full, that hardly looks like a fad! How many people does that place hold?! I wonder if anywhere else in the world an arena of that size could be filled for a fluff competition. This photo was posted in another thread. https://imgur.com/gallery/PLVIH79 ...I'm excited to see the new STH costume too. Surprised to hear there's a new one, although the two he used at Shombardia seemed pretty subdued for him! I can see where he would want a different style this year, so as to not look like anyone else.

Annoying about the fluff piece. Think of all the skaters who skate for years and come in 6th, 7th, 8th. I'd say the Prince has done quite well. He has every reason to be very proud. I never compare him to anyone else. He's unique and that's good enough for me.

Adding -- I looked it up. Capacity is 19,000-22,5000 and can be configured to hold as many as 37,000. Um, I'd say that's pretty big!

My highlight of JO is still Shoma’s nod at the end of his FS. I love seeing him exudes confidence and being satisfied with what he’s done.

Article after JO

Using Google translate, as far as I can tell it seems he switched out the 4loop because of the poorer success rate and he was able to jump the 4S more consistently and it takes less effort than the loop?

Yup (paraphrase the article a bit), 4S is less stressful mentally and physically compare w/ 4Lo. In addition, he can probably land 4S even he is low in stamina. That's why he switched 4Lo to 4S.

On the other hand...sayaka san or jerrymouse san (please come back to life from dead banana state!), could you take a look of this article? Cox my concern is what Shoma said on page 3: 好調の要因は、「今年はオフもケガがなく、例年よりもシーズンへ向けていい調整ができているから」と宇野は言う。
Shoma said he did well (in JO) because "he didn't injured in off-season this year TOO...so he can better prepare for the next season"...did he imply that he was injured in last off-season???

Do you remember in the summer 2017 there were several ice shows where he was supposed to do Turandot but couldn't do it because he was hurt? Instead the cast took bits and pieces of Turandot and skated them and he skated a very small part and did a few 3As, if I remember correctly? He definitely was hurt at Sk Can. How hurt he was throughout the rest of the year I'm not sure, but to me he appeared to have a really, really hard time any time he tried to do a combination jump (not just 4Ts with another jump, even 3-3s). Could just be I'm overly concerned for my grandson, but he was definitely coping with something. He kept pretty quiet about it though.

I remember the "collaboration" turandot programme, but didn't know the reason behind :-(

Imo, if Shoma is decided to compete, he will never say he is injured, no matter it is severe or not...

I don't think it was ever bad enough to keep him out of competition, but it was a nagging injury off and on all year. At Sk Can practice, he kept on bouncing on his foot as if he was testing his foot? ankle? I remember at Sk Can during Turandot he experienced a really weird fall.

Also people were upset with him because he kept changing his layout so much. I think he was doing that to cope with how his injury felt at each competition.

It’s funny cause there’s a debate on twitter a couple days back that Shoma wasn’t injured at world and that he was just in pain. Obviously they didn’t take into account that he might already carry one and the new boots were aggravating whatever injury he already have.

Q. Which spin is fun to execute?

Yura “it’s not fun...(laughs) flying camel”
Keiji “Same. It’s tough...(to do)”
Rika “Biellmann”
Kaori “Me too, Biellmann”
Satoko “The layback to Biellmann”
Shoma “I hate the spins” https://t.co/8mRmzJflt9

Asked about the "only" skater he has ever aspired to #DaisukeTakahashi, #ShomaUno replied: "There are many skaters I respect, so please revise the part about the 'only skater'." https://t.co/hrJGYf2RRw

These honest answer deserves a :points:
Shoma is so sassy

I always love Shoma's answers to questions. The " I hate the spins. " Everyone else chooses something, he just bluntly says he hates them. pure gold, to me.

He was so blunt and to the point. I laughed :laugh2: so hard when I read his comment.

I am just in awe with him nowadays. His confidence now is really awesome 😎. It’s making him more attractive and sexy🤤. Yesterday interview and today press conference really shows his growth. I noticed that previously interviewer is the one making remarks and he is laughing. Today is reversed. 😍😍

Wow Both guys on the skating lesson were negative with Shoma this time. They talked about bad habits creaking in his jump technique in dropping the hip. And that once that habit happens all the jumps go bad and the program is just an empty mess. He has to skate this program perfectly for it to work. I was surprised because I thought the jumps were more successful in FS than in Lombardia. They made it sound the opposite unless they are taking in account the short program in Lombardi.
Oh well. Hoping for a cleaner free in the next competition.

As much as I love Shoma, I kind of have to agree with Dave and Jonathan on the program being a bit too minimalistic. Although I do think that he looks more comfortable performing this program, the first half is still rather empty. The program comes alive in the second half and I just hope that his team will try to make the first half more interesting. Moonlight Sonata has great potential but it definitely needs some work.

Yup, I also agree. Loving Shoma do not mean we will be blind to his weakness. The first half is a bit empty and I have hoping they add something or anything there but looking at his track record, unlikely he will change his cheoreo anymore. Any choreo at Japan Open tends to be it, only jump sequence has history of changes. It's will depends on his own aura and charisma to fill in the first half. I believe that clean skate will definitely bring out those.

Beside that, Shoma program usually grows over the season as he digest the program better. For now, I already feeling the emotion for the program, just waiting for those special moments evoke like at 2015, 2016 GPF and 2017, 2018 world. Since Jr, his short program always making me stop everything and enjoying his skating.

OMG!!! I am rambling with Shoma aewsomeness:luv17: now when i just want to give comment and opinion about this Free Program. :palmf:
