Congratulations Shoma for winning the GPF Silver Medal for two years in a row! And of course, making the podium for the 21st consecutive time and keeping the Japanese men podium streak since 2005. I'm sure the pressure was insane but his achievements are pretty incredible.

Jump-wise it wasn't really his competition but both good fights for the SP and the FS. He's the hardest person on himself so I think no one is more disappointed of his errors than himself, I'm sure he'll use what he got from this competition to work harder and come back stronger. Some positives: he got no deduction for falls even with the jump struggles, and of course the little smile he has after his last jumping pass at the FS, I'm really relieved to see it.

And the FS performance.. I have the softest spot for Moonlight Sonata ever since it was first announced as his FS, I just want to say that the GPF performance only increases my love more and more. It's an absolutely beautiful program: there's just a mesmerizing connection between Shoma, the music, and the way he skates it that I really can't explain in detail, but I love the way it comes together so much. And tonight's skate is the softest one I've seen from him this season, of course he's fighting with everything he has out there but it doesn't take at all from the delicate, haunting quality of the program.

Wishing Shomajesty a good rest and recharge with his loved ones and loads of meat!! Come back strong and believe in yourself the way we all believe in you :luv17:

So well said. Thank you.

Haunting quality is exactly how I would describe tonight's skate. It was beautiful! And I really LOVE the way he takes his time with every movement. It's really amazing. There will be those who have to always say the obligatory negative comments - meh, we're used to it. Go ahead! Wow, did he get the love from the audience. He will never be a masterful jumper, so he should just play his own game. I just think boys with big bottoms have a harder time getting their jumps around than those with the tiny hips. The musicality and connection to the music is something that can't be taught. It's innate, and he has it. He seemed fairly nervous, but he did his best to control it. I'm very proud of him, and it was a great skate for him. He will be true to his name (Chang Polish) and keep polishing and polishing. Lots more competitions to come where he can shine.

Congratulations Moonlight Shomata! You didn't lose the gold, you won the silver!

Adding -- I never know what you guys are seeing on livestreaming or NBC Gold. As he was leaving the ice, did you see the big plushie that looked like a big piece of meat? It was hilarious! It looked like something Fred Flintstone would eat. I was praying he would pick it up!

that was such a beautiful and moving performance! I think this was Shoma's best Moonlight yet :luv17: I know he wants gold (I want it for him as well), but regardless of the medal, I'm really proud of Shoma

Thanks Arriba for your report! Shoma, "an uncut gem does not sparkle", I know you will continue to shine by keep polishing yourself!

Regarding the plushie...I couldn't see it on livestreaming but from your description, it matched with what I have seen from a fan's tweet: they prepared two large plushies for Shoma: one is an eggplant and another one is a drumstick (yes, the drumstick that Fred Flintstone would eat)

I just watched Shoma FS. It is a very beautiful program. I agree this is the softest performance of it. Very Beautifully done. As for the jumps I would love for him to add a jump specialist to his team permanently to see if he can become more consistent. Also many skaters talk about diet during competition to keep the weight the same for jumps.

Can you possibly post the tweet. That drumstick was amazing!!!!

I agree completely, MS was a captivating performance. I just always wish refined and smooth skating was more rewarded in PCS than it is. Shoma should benefit.

I wonder was this competition mentally one of the toughest for Shoma? Very good he was feeling better already today in FS. I don´t know how an athlete´s mind works or what kind of changes are going on in his mind but I was thinking and hoping too that maybe he learned something after SP that will help him to deal with the pressure and to find the right kind of mood for the future competitions.

Btw, the live stream was very bad here during the men´s free skate. It kept pausing over and over again in the middle of Shoma´s jumps so it was very painful to wait a few seconds to see how they went.

That was a beautiful performance!!! Few errors on the jumps, but all the elements done (combos completed, yey) and more than anything, a performance where he and the music are one. He portrays it so well. His performances of Moonlight Sonata just keep getting better. He moves so beautifully.

Now as for his short... kindly get rid of the eggplant costume, Shoma. Hasn't been doing you any favors. I think a red one would suit him very well (my gosh, that red Uno practice shirt was proof!) [emoji7] I nearly went to the DBC cemetery! And back to the Friends on Ice choreo with the current jumps! [emoji1] [emoji8] Thanks Coach Fluffy! No more big experiments please!

By the way, he's dealing so well with skating last. Doesn't matter as much anymore. Each time he performs he becomes tougher. Also, he's not so short of breath at the end of the performance. Keep moving forward, Shoma!

Lat you do know Sho wore that Purple/Eggplant costume especially for Arriba, I think a little bird told him that she would be there. ;)

I was deeply moved by his performance and I think many others were. He mentioned several time in interviews that he wants to be the kind of skaters able to move the audience. He's just that kind of skater :)
Congrats to Shoma, that was a beautifully earned silver medal! I'm sure the best is yet to come

so true, I hope Shoma knows how much he touches peoples' hearts with his skating :luv17:

Where's the men's victory ceremony? I heard Shoma was posing with everyone and had to be led away by Nathan? With the loud cheers for him from the audience, the Japanese media descending on him like a flock of pigeons after the official press con, the tons of people wanting photos and autographs from him... he's clearly moved many people here. [emoji4] He is THAT skater already for sure.

Demarinis, she saw it at Skate Canada already! I think 2x is enough, Arriba? I saw it at NHK too, I'm not liking it too much. Looks too dark on the ice under full lights. On the other hand, I like his MS costume- it's pretty yet subtle and has the starry sparkles. Arriba might disagree with that. [emoji23]

This one melted my heart:

I don't know where the men's victory ceremony video is. If anyone has it please share. I just watched the Press conference and the Japanese
media are something else the way they surrounded Shoma he had no choice but to sit back down, he could not escape lol, and the look on Nathan's
face was priceless. I am sure they will be all over Rika now so maybe they will give Sho a break.

Men's medal ceremony. Its still up.

There wasnt any footage of Shoma stopping and taking pics with the crowd. The crowd were shouting for both Nathan & Shoma.
Instead, more apparent was Jun Hwan falling back far behind during victory lap, lol. Maybe Jun stopped to take pics with the audience.
