Thanks for the video! I guess they didn't get videos of the moments afterwards. From reports and the pictures on Twitter, it seems Shoma went around and took pictures and shook hands with the fans afterwards (like in that picture I posted) (including one with one of our favorite fan translators yawning_shoma!). Maybe someone got a fanvid somewhere. [emoji1]

It's always so frustrating when after the victory lap the skaters go to the opposite side of the rink from where you're standing. Nathan and Shoma didn't interact too much with the audience. From where I was, I could see Sho shaking hands with a few people, and I think maybe a few people took a selfie. They didn't linger too much. They had to keep to their ISU schedule! Pretty sure they went straight to the press conference after that, so not much time to fool around.

You know, there's somethin' about that color purple. :scratch3: I do like the Shombardia costume too. You can see a little bit of it here on my Twitter header picture. That was kind of an orange-y red which is good for him. https://twitter.com/arriba627fs The blue is very classy but I'm not too sure on the color. I'm really beginning to love these less elaborate costumes.

Congratulations to Shoma for silver and continuing his amazing podium streak!! :clapper::clapper::clapper::clapper::clapper:

I just watched Shoma FS. It is a very beautiful program. I agree this is the softest performance of it. Very Beautifully done. As for the jumps I would love for him to add a jump specialist to his team permanently to see if he can become more consistent. Also many skaters talk about diet during competition to keep the weight the same for jumps.

I agree! I love watching Shoma's performance and it really moved me.
I'm not sure if he would be able to do the two things you mentioned, but he did say he was facing his challenges mentally so I hope he is surrounded by supportive people!

I really wanted him to win the gold this time round, I don't know why but my heart felt heavy after seeing his score. I'm also proud of him for not having any falls!

Just to add that I love the jacket he is wearing here :luv17:

CBC commentary for his GPF LP is at 14:01, plus his "Coming Up" fluff is just before that (the password is men): https://vimeo.com/303584429 His SP wasn't broadcast on Canadian television.

Many thanks to you siberia82 for another wonderful video. The more I watch that performance, the more I realize how much I like it and how good it was. While we long for gold for the Prince, the reality is that he has 2 bronzes and 2 silvers at the GPF. Wow! How many skaters would kill for that? So proud of him. Now he can go back home and gear up for Nationals. :hap10:

Shoma you may be under a lot of pressure now.
But don't worry all this will come to pass.
Just get your nerves straigthen out it will be fine.

Thank you to sayaka1030 for compiling Sho's competition statistics, starting with his 2014-2015 season:

--41 competitions
--21 gold, 12 silver, 4 bronze
--only off the podium 4 times
--not 1 WD during that time

What skater wouldn't kill for that record?! Pretty amazing! No withdraws?.Incredible!

I agree. He is such a smooth, beautiful skater through out his programs that I am always moved. To me no one else compares, so he is always gold in my eyes.

Well said, I was thinking about this when I watch his TAT from the gala earlier. Just to watch him skate is already a beautiful privilege for me, I hope he can skate for long and with happiness. For him, it's not enough and it may make him feel under pressure, so I fully support all his efforts to improve and take on every challenge.

I had posted this translation on the edge, but as it contains comments from Shoma, and I don't think it's been translated here yet, I'm sharing it. :)
This season, Shoma is trying to challenge more -not necessarily in his jumps, but in his mindset. I've been reading his comments throughout this season and this recent article also shows a little of Shoma's thoughts on his competitive results and mindset:
This is not the whole article, I hope the whole thing can be translated soon.
https://sportiva.shueisha.co.jp/clm/othersports/figure/2018/12/10/post_36/index_4.php
It's in Japanese, and covers a lot of things, but about his mindset he said "While giving a few interviews, I've come to think, It's quite hard to believe in ones self" (my note: his motto for this season is Believe BTW)

"The Axel and Toeloop are jumps that I had confidence in and to make mistakes on them one after the other made me lose confidence. If it was the Flip and Salchow that weren't doing well, that would be just business as usual, but this time before going to Canada it was going well, so I think that troubled me. I wanted Results ( my note: Gold medal) and that might have been pressure as well."

"In any competition up till this point, I've been saying "I aim to have fun (or enjoy)" and I wasn't that conscious of winning the titles. I thought, if I concentrate on my own performance, the results will follow. However, from the first competition this season, I haven't thought like that, I've been demanding both results and performance from myself. 'Now, I want to put pressure on myself, and rise above it' "

"If you think about chances, last season, points-wise, in every competition there was a chance. But in the (GP)Final I felt "It wasn't good". It was held in Nagoya and everyone had expectations and it was a competition in which results were expected. Until last year, I was saying just enjoy, but eventually there is a time where you can't just enjoy. I may not be that age yet, but I realized that time will come. That's why I want to put pressure on myself and compete in it, and produce results."

"As Yuzuru Hanyu does each time, conquering pressure and producing a splendid result, and becoming a splendid athlete. I think I also must be like that, so I put pressure on myself. "

End of excerpt.

I admire Shoma for wanting to go for gold this season and challenge himself in this way. His past mindset of just doing his own thing at his own pace really worked for him, kept him calm and impervious to pressure. After the Olympics, Yuzuru said of Shoma that he has a Titanuim heart and a Titanium mind. And really admired it. However, it seems that to challenge for the next level in his development, he wants to make himself open to pressure, to learn how to deal with it.
In the short term, it may be destabilizing, but if he can get his head around it, it may make him more resilient, especially if he wants to be the front-runner in men's skating. It comes with a lot of pressure, scrutiny and expectations.

As always, if you have issues with the translation, or spot an error, comment or PM me.

Just watched some excellent Shoma clips from the Gala. Shoma-Shimmy is now a thing.

What a beautiful smile. Looks like he had a lot of fun during the gala!

I also enjoyed all those videos and pictures of him and Kaori awkwardly doing some shimmy moves with each other. [emoji23] so cute!!

And to that fan who screamed kakkoii before Shoma performed time after time, THANK YOU!!!

Added: just a few more. He's so cute and happy.

Although it's a shame Shoma didn't win gold I'm still really happy he got a silver in the end! The silver streak at major championships continues (although not a bad streak at all to have). If he can skate like he did in that stunning free skate at Skate Canada then we're onto a winner. I also like his gala skate and he shows a lot of class with music to Harry Connick Jr. [emoji122]

Thanks Lat for sharing the Shoma goodies. Nice to see him happy, smiling and enjoying himself after such a tough competition for him.
