Shoma's pretty shy about his looks (which makes it more hilarious when Yamada-sensei was asked what is Shoma's best quality when he was younger and she was like: HE'S HANDSOME!!!!) and I think he's uncomfortable with excessive praise, the lowkey person that he is. Doesn't make his smile when fans were yelling "KAKKOIII!" during Galas less cuter though. I think we got two moments so far, with the 4CC This Town and GPF TAT, here's to many more!

I need something happy today. Here they are again, even if we've seen them. Wow, that GPF person must have been practicing! :laugh2:

Guys, which gala do you think Shoma is going to choose for Challenge Cup (supposing he shows up, which I hope he does)? How big is the chance of 'Great Spirit'? I'd really love to see that. ^ ^

haha! won't it be crazy if there's an actual 'Kakkoi Squad', comprising of people in different parts of the world, prepping their best yelling technique for the eventuality of any gala Shoma is in, with the sole aim to make him smile despite himself?

Also, fans shenanigans aside, thanks for reminding me these beautiful gala programs all over again- I really really really love This Town. And I wish he has a competitive program like TAT - would love to see him perform a relatively fun and flirty piece! (next season, hopefully?)

Ooooh this is an interesting question! I do hope he's doing Great Spirit- the song is Armin Van Buuren's and he's from the Netherlands which is where Challenge Cup is, right?

Shoma's been alternating TAT for Canadian comps and Grespi for Japan comps- no European comps yet before Challenge Cup..

I haven’t thought about that. Hope he does skate Great Spirit, I really miss it! Or maybe he’ll skate it at 4CC and TaT at CC? I love TaT too but I think Great Spirit is my fav Ex this season and This Town my all-time fav :luv17:

But imagine if he skates Great Spirit at CC with so many DBC members there  I’m afraid for them. Aaand I’ve just remembered I’m still trying to find a way to go too :dbana:

I wouldn't count on Great Spirit, since it was considered somewhat controversial. I'm going to make a wild guess he skates that only in Japan. Highly unlikely he'll skate it at 4CC.

Speaking of Grespi, look at this starfish flop XD

I wonder if Sho worked with Shae on the program during Friends on Ice..

Good job Sho! I actually think I like that move better than the real program! :laugh2: It even got some applause out of Shae-Lynne.

LOL Shoma has the best flops in the business. I have been missing him lately. 4CC's cant come fast enough for me!

I agree. Seems like we haven't seen him in forever, and it's only been about 4 weeks! Only a couple more weeks now. Then the Challenge Cup a few weeks later.

Missing me some Shoma so I was going down the memory lane, re-visiting some of his junior year materials and came across this oldie

Some thoughtful (and my favourite) excerpts from the piece:
"The truth is Shoma Uno is way too modest – and this seems to be one of the innate qualities of the Japanese skaters. And though modesty might seem a wonderful quality to have, it may also do you harm, giving you the (false) impression that you don’t deserve the great things happening to you. In Tallinn, even without having the best free skate of his life in terms of jumps and scores, the Japanese shined – his distinction was more than obvious. And, for his own good – and in order to ease his mind – Shoma should place a mirror in front of him while he skates; he’ll see what we, the public, see when looking at him: a natural talent, one that strikes from miles away.

He is still that modest person now! And he definitely deserved all the great things. Hard to believe it's Shoma's 4th season now in the seniors. Time goes by so fast.

Thanks for sharing OniBan! Don Juan DeMarco remains one of my favorite programs. His Jr. World's performance
was just mesmerizing.

I'm waiting for official announcement or press release from JSF, but just for a heads up, the Dutch page of Challenge Cup updated their News page on January 23rd with the following (the English page has not been updated):

https://www.schaatsen.nl/nieuws/201...nstrijden-op-naar-het-ek-nk-en-challenge-cup/

At the end of the page:

Update 23 januari:

I don't speak Dutch, so I used Google Translate:

Update January 23:
Unfortunately, Shoma Uno has had to sign up for the Challenge Cup with an injury. One Japanese topper will be replaced by another, because the Japanese team will issue Rika Kihira. The talented skater won earlier this season the final of the ISU Grand Prix with a difference of almost seven points on her Russian competitor.

Ran through the translator again and "moeten afmelden voo" means "have to opt out of", so I hope there's an official announcement/press release soon.

I'm worried, but I hope Shoma's okay and putting his health first.

I'm a bit curious about Shoma's wording for 4CC- from what I get, Shoma still hasn't make a decision whether to WD or not but he wants to do it, if he can only do one competition before Worlds. Can anyone help?

Oh Shoma. I really hope he’s getting proper rest and time to heal. Hope he’d decide to go to 4CC only if he’s fully healed. :(
