I read that the Edea Piano incorporates anti-shock technology to help soften the harsh impact of jump landings (that can have bad long term effect on skaters' ankles, knees, hips, back etc) so anything that can help protect his precious appendages is good in my book XD

That’s interesting! Whatever helps Shoma to stay healthy is good. Friendship ended with all other boots, Edea is my new best friend! 😊

I hope Jackie's predictions come true. I know Shoma is one of the favorite for Gold and he has the fire power to win!

GO SHOMA!!!!!!:cheer:

I hope so too!
I just noticed that due to the timezones, I'll completely miss the short program :(

It seems that he landed all his quads but fell on a few triples...
Also some reports that his SP might not have the 4F in it, I am really worried about his ankle still!

Sp changed

I hope so too!

Yes I see that Jackie said the 4F is not working in practice so it is probably for the best.

TBH I don't think his ankle is completely 100% yet either (timeline for recovery seems pushing it real close, too close imho). But it seems like he and his team are willing to take on an easier layout instead of bulldozing through injury like before - and for that I am glad. Though I am still wincing at the amount of jumps he did during practice XDD (that man never does things in halves, does he?)...I think (and I hope) that they're aiming for a clean skate rather than one with highest difficulty at this point.

I can't stop watching that creative 3 jump seq. It's too amazing

I read some reports that the fire alarm went off during the practice session Shoma was in, and I may have found out the reason *insert fire emoji* because look at him:

Joining in to send well-wishes and prayers for Shoma... I note that he's doing an easier layout, hopefully it works out for the best.
May he be happy, healthy, focused and able to complete the performances that he wants in his current condition!

PS. Also OMG Courtney Milan likes Shoma??? Even amazing romance novel authors have Shomatitis now, Dr. H! XD

I hear fire trucks even as we speak! :laugh2: They had better check for melted ice.

Adding -- Didn't know who Courtney Milan was. How cool!

So much Shomita info! Nice way to start my day. Thanks DBC for the updates, much appreciated!

Thank you everyone for such informative and easy-on-the-eyes posts. :) Cannot wait to see the competition. So excited to see Shoma happy and healthy.

While enjoying reports from local fans/ TV reports/ news articles/ tweets, I would like to share some other info regarding how other athletes take Shoma as their reference/ target. As I was translating in dead banana mode, please let me know if there're any mistakes made...

MIURA Kao (13years old), always with "attack mood". He is aiming to become a skater like Uno Shoma. "Uno san says 'attack', so I also aware of 'attacking' (attitude)".
Remarks: Miura landed 4T in national secondary school competition

TAKADA Asahi, who is a unicycle dancer and the current record holder of 100m, 400m and marathon standard of unicycling, watches figure skating videos during her occasional day-off to learn the movements of skaters. Uno Shoma is her reference. "How to look like big with small body and expressiveness etc are what I've learnt (by watching Shoma's performance videos)."

Source 2 (Takada): http://www.chunichi.co.jp/chuspo/article/shutospo/news/CK2019020602000201.html

p.s. Thanks for everyone post Shoma updates! I am a happy dead banana now!

Thanks a lot Gacchan! I've read some snippets on Twitter about Kao and Asahi Takada (I... have no idea unicycle dancing is a thing, but of course it is, and it looks and sounds AWESOME), so your translation helped a lot in finally understanding them XD

It's really cool to read how other athletes make Shoma their target/reference. Of course there are skaters who admires his expressions and musicality (now adding the "Attack!!!" mindset as well XD) but if IIRC Shoma had said in one of the post-Olympics interviews/articles that he hopes that other people who have a smaller body can be inspired by what he did and achieved. So it's really heartwarming to know that there are those who did, and have him as their reference to continue striving for success <3
