Because she has the best fluffy, pink coat in the whole world! We will also miss her conversations with Sho at Fluffy's Bar (the boards).

That was almost my first thought! :) And I’m glad he's doing it now, and not waiting another year. Whatever changes he makes will have time to settle before the next Olympics.

Perhaps struggling at Worlds and WTT was the catalyst, but I do wonder what’s really driving the change. Because that might give us a clue as to where he will end up. Unlike Jason, he wasn’t struggling to “get” a quad. Anyway, it will be exciting for him to start on a new phase of his life / career!
 
Surprise, but no surprise re: the move.

I have no idea who would be the best coach for him moving forward, but I hope that he finds that certain place that makes him feel at home and comfortable, as well as being a challenging training environment, so that he can improve and become the skater I know he can become.

It takes courage to pick up and move to a new place, even more so if it's to a new country/culture/language, but moving out of your comfort zone is a definite way to grow. It won't be easy, but now that he's made the hard decision to do so, the future is wide open and he has years to work towards Beijing. I look forward to more developments in this story!!
 
Wow, such surprising news about the coach change, especially with no definitive plans that we know of.

What a surprise! :shocked: Still a bit shocked but I have so much respect for Shoma for the major changes he is making to move out of his comfort zone in pursuit of broader horizons.
Very excited for Shoma's new coaching situation, where he is sure to grow, expand & improve his jump technique. Of course, we will miss his interactions with the lovely coach Fluffy. But fans will finally get to see him skate to a new choreographer's program. Wishing Shoma all the best in his decision and future! We will be cheering him on all the way! :2thumbs:
 
^^^^^ Oooh, nice find oatmella, even though it seems that Jack is still mainly speculating at this point. Very nice comment from Ted Barton on Shoma though.

I might have melted from Shoma calling strict and tough Alex Ouriashev a part of his family, like an ojii-san 😆 I don't think I've ever read that comment before.
 
If he does go to Russia in July, I really hope it will be Mishin. Their work would be very interesting to see. But yup, we can only speculate for now. He may even finally decide to stay in Japan, but with a different coach.

Interesting, he seemed to have summed up all the speculations & strongly suggests a Russian coach. I suppose it is sort of ‘Russians do not have a leading man ready for the podium & States does’ though atm. I thought it was funny though that avoiding attention from media is part of the reason, because i doubt Russia is any less enthusiastic about FS than Japan.

On one hand, I want to see what Russian school can do for Uno, on the other, Russia has a heavy overhead & he seems such a happy spirit. Maybe, it is not as noticeable to a non-national.

4.What is your favorite spin?

Scratch spin, standing upright, his arms folded tightly to the chest, fast rotations, he finishes one of his programs with it.

I grasp that in FS various hands positions overhead and to the sides are valued, but I really love those moments when the athletes are in that max power position, braced in, because it highlights for me the best how far out of the ordinary body motion range or ability they go.

What you’re describing is called a scratch spin.
 
With speculations of Eteri or Mishin, I have a nagging feeling Shoma might choose to go to Russia.
Since its just a few hours away from Japan it would be very convinient for him travel wise.
But he has to use the lip balms fans give him. He will be needing it there.
No more chappy lips Shomajesty.

Mishin is probably not an option. He said that he knows nothing about Shoma's transfer.
