I was so nervous and exhausted but very happy last night.
Thank you for great skating, Shoma.
You are so brave, and you are the best performer.
I’m very proud of you.
Your smile makes me happy all the time.
And thank you Stephane for supporting Shoma.
Shoma and Stephane’s K&C is the UNO1.:party2:

I’m always impressed with what Shoma says.
He expresses his gratitude and respectful, and never says something unpleasant.
His words makes everybody happy.
That’s one of the reason I love him.:love2:

I’ve only wished him to skate at JNats and enjoy himself.
My dream has come true.
Now I’m looking forward to watching MOI on TV tomorrow.:jump:

Shoma is selected for the Japanese team to compete at the 2021 World Championships! He is joined by Yuzuru, Yuma, Rika, Kaori, Satoko, Riku and Ryuichi as well as Tim and Misato.

As we all know the situation in the world is still uncertain so the competition isn't guaranteed to happen, but I wish him and the other members of Team Japan all the best. I wish them health and safety 🙏

Thx to the kind transcribers for allowing me to post this conversation from the K & C after DOMO. It is GOLD!

Stéphane: You are a crazy fire, so crazy fire. You're the best skater I know! *hug*
Stéphane: laugh
Shoma: heavy breathing....steps No energy
Stéphane: This spin, before the choreo sequence, too short!
Shoma:Yes
Stéphane: Every position a little bit short! Maybe a level two or level three
Shoma: Yes, spin step...last spin Soo..bad image? Toeloop
Stéphane: But you made it. Because you-
Shoma: Because of bad image...

Stéphane: Two quad toes, second part, sugoi! But I do scream do a single toe. Do something...
Stéphane: You know what? Conditions are very weird and you were peaceful, you were controlling your energy, you were smiling. It was a wonderful experience for everybody.
Shoma: Yes!
Stéphane: I'm happy!
Shoma: Yes, I am happy.Yes.
Stéphane: And this in practice? It was always a challenge, but you did it!
Stéphane: Thank you! *clap*

It really is amazing to think that he has been on the senior podium 7 years in a row, the first time (2014) when he was still a junior. I consider it an honor. So the count stands at four gold and three silver. Here's to lots more in the future! :dance3:

Now that you mention it, the 2020 Nationals was actually held in the same city and venue (Nagano Big Hat) as the 2014 Nationals, when Shoma first won his first National medal (silver) and got on the podium 😊 That was the season when he first landed his 4T and 3A, and a lot have changed since then.

Stephane updated his Instagram yesterday:

Also, this moment 😆

My brain just broke from the amount of BAROQUE Shoma is serving in his new exhibition program, oh my God.

I know the broadcast called it "Oboe Concerto" but he didn't just use the Oboe Concerto, it's actually two tracks back-to-back:

- Oboe Concerto in D minor attributed to Alessandro Marcello, Movement II: Adagio*
- Concerto in C minor for Cello, Strings and Basso continuo by Antonio Vivaldi, Movement III: Allegro ma non molto

*) if this part in particular sounds familiar, it's because Bach transcribed it for his own Keyboard Concerto. Kaori Sakamoto used a piano version of it for her SP this season, the part in the beginning before it turned into Jazz.

I have more thoughts about this but like... my brain is still non-functioning... so I'm just gonna go back to watch the EX a bunch of times...

Thanks, Arriba for posting.

I’m very interested in this song.
I thought its’ beginning was Kaori’s SP and like For Seasons.
My expectation was not that bad.
Thanks rabidline for sharing.
Now I can’t help repeating.
I love Shoma performs this program wearing Greek God costume.
But I think it’s a little bit funny that Greek God Shoma performs Great Spirit.:laugh2:
I enjoyed MOI anyway.
Thanks for great performance, Shoma.

How cute they are.:love2::love2::love2:

I really like this Oboe Concerto exhibition for Shoma.
Either Kenji's choreography suits him very well and/or his training with Lambiel is def. working well... you can really see his artistic qualities in this program!
If he chooses to compete with it next year I think it could be great

/warning: this is going to be long

I just want to say I'm really happy that Shoma skated the new EX in the gala. It's not like I wasn't happy about how Nationals went for him, I'm really happy, but also I was so focused on the competition aspect of it, the jumps, the scores, and a bit of the placement because I was really worried about how he would perform after not competing for 10 months and preparing himself in this pandemic. I worried about his funding, I hoped he'll get the bye for the next Nationals because who knows what will happen with international borders in the future, and even I worried about the spots in the Worlds team because well, Worlds has not been cancelled... yet. And I know this shouldn't matter but I worried about any discourse regarding his spot in the National team in the event he didn't do well (full disclosure an IDF 2019 meltdown repeat did cross my mind, fleetingly, but it did). Of course Shoma went out there and handled everything so well and so happily, so I'm really happy that he managed to do that.

But I missed Shoma's skating. Really, really, really missed it. I love Grespi and DOMO but the circumstances of Nationals didn't let me fully enjoy them, I appreciate that they played their part perfectly to help Shoma share his happiness and secure his place in the podium. And then of course the gala. I didn't expect to see Kenji's program here. I hoped for it, especially when Shoma was announced to participate in Nagoya Festival, but I saw the costumes he was bringing in Itsuki's video and I thought, well, maybe he'll bring out an old EX. Or maybe even doing Grespi again as an EX, because it's a suitable gala program and is pretty well-loved in Japan. It's been so long since we heard about the Kenji program. I thought, maybe Shoma has scrapped it. Maybe the emergency state Japan was in back in the summer made him never really worked with Kenji at all.

So when this EX happened I just... I really missed enjoying Shoma skating like this SO MUCH. This was what I have been missing for ten months. And with this kind of music, it's a pleasure to see him go out there and do his thing. Shoma is such an amazing interpreter of sounds. It's really pure, the way he does it, because he doesn't just skate to the music, but he also amplifies the quality of the music with his skating, creating this very satisfying audiovisual experience. While I have been loving the string of programs with mostly contemporary music (and Moonlight Sonata) he's had after the Olympics, I really enjoyed him sink his teeth to these pieces from Marcello and Vivaldi, which have survived centuries and had plenty of history behind them. His connection, commitment and humbleness before the music is such a treat.

The highlight of this EX program in its current state for me is of course the step sequence that showcases his physicality and control of both his upper body and the flow of his blades. I love the way he's able to balance the polyphonic and root his presence in the center of those furiously beautiful melodies, with that deep, rich tone of the cello. But I love the first half as well. Yes, it's structured to give him space for jumping passes that would have been a quad, a quad combo and the triple axel as this was prepared to be able to serve as a competitive SP, but he really managed to convey the dignified serenity of one of my favorite melodies, with his beautiful posture and yet, gentle arms and hands. The way he balances the tension and softness is just... ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

I just.. thanks Shoma. Thank you too for Kenji who kind of subverted my expectations by going in this direction for the music and challenge Shoma to take his physicality into a program to another level. Thank you for Stephane who probably helped him polish this EX.

And finally, I'm so happy to end 2020 by watching Shoma skate to new music 🥰 🥰 🥰

/long rambling over, sorry for unleashing my feelings here

Great post rabidline. Thank you. Totally agree, and you expressed it much better than I ever could. That step sequence was other worldly. There is no one right now in figure skating who is moving as he does. Some of those movements, he looked like a magician. I never liked the Great Spirit music but came to love his total abandon and movement quality with that. DOMO as a heartfelt performance is on a whole other level, but this Kenji choreo looked fabulous on him. I'm afraid we're going to get spoiled with it, and then I think he'll keep it as an EX. :console::ghug::dbana: It truly was lovely and a great way to close out an entertaining weekend. That we can see the effect of Stephane's work with him was an extra bonus. Interesting times are definitely ahead!

So now that the pressure is off, he can celebrate! Belated Happy Birthday Sho / Crazy Fire! Time for lots of niku! Check out those fabulous strawberries. Yum!

This is very cool too. Check out the cantilever cookie cutter. Seems this lady made it herself!

Shoma has done a lot for his favorite niku place's business. (I even know some lucky fans who have eaten there! :dbana: ) I love how they have a mini Sho-shrine!

So maybe we should all take a field trip to JPN instead of working! :party2: :dance3::bsplit: We could get there just in time for the Nagoya Festival! And while we're there, we could find some amazing strawberries like the ones in these photos!
