Congratulations on making the Olympics team, Shoma! There was never any doubt in my mind that he'd make it.
Hearing that he re-twisted his ankle during the warm up breaks my heart. 😭 And yet he still went ahead with the 5-quad layout and gave it his all. Such fighting spirit! He deserves his place amongst the top skaters of the world. 👍🏻

I hope Shoma can stay in Japan for a while until his ankle gets better. It would also be easier for Demizu-san to help him with the needed treatment and therapy if he stays.

It really only dawned on me just how serious the ankle injury was when I saw Shoma struggling with his two 3S in the gala. And it made me realize just how difficult it was for him to deliver the way he did in the SP and FS, and under such high pressure. It reminds me of Nationals 2018, but the level of competition and the stakes are so much higher this year.

I hope we'll get a puppy video soon. I want to see him back with dear Emma and Toro and Baron, and his family.

Thank you for MOI video!

I did not know there is a hobby in ISU bio! The dogs:laugh:

Our lovely Oda recently has started Youtube (And the channel is fun, filled with his love to skating and consideration to skaters.).
Nobu talks about FS.
Shoma part is around middle. He says the difficulty of Stephane's Bolero is you have to keep the tension of 1st loop till the end. There is no breathing part except eagle in the middle. And it is rhythmic, very difficult to recover yourself when you make a mistake. This time, Shoma got 4T after first fall, so Nobu really appreciated it. His strong determination, 'I have this jump! I never lose' is reflected and he seemed very cool.
Also Nobu admires posing(especially, 13:18, me either! It is very like Stephane).

Shoma will have Mei-fes on arond Jan.5? So he will stay in Japan. And now he does not have 4CC.

And lovely Kanako also have youtube channel. She have watched Shoma since his childhood. She cried with his performance.

Yeah, I agree. Shoma said he had not tension at Olympics, he was much more nervous at Nationals. I went to Nationals once in Japan, and the atmosphere is totally different from international competitions. It has unique atmosphere and tension. No wonder they have suits at draw. It is holy place for all Japanese skaters. At the Nationals before Olympics, he challenged himself with difficult program in the situation of injury. There was a possibility of chaos. But he could manage it. He really got matured.

Short interview at the beginning. He says he has 1 month till Olympics. He is sure he can grow more and more. He wants to meet fans after 1 month with his growth to excite his fans.

On a bright note, his eyes are seeing in the future, not just Olympics year, next year, two years ahead.. This is the reason why he did not change the layout this time. At the previous Olympics, he said Olympics is the same competition as others for him. For some, Olympics is a special stage, for him, Olympics is one of them. Both stances are ok! For Shoma, every competition is eaually in his way. As long as he stays healthy and we stay healthy, we can keep watching him! :ghug:

I am not particular about dogs' hearings, strong? Their dogs were waiting for footsteps quietly.
His mom said to him, 'you did very well. I was impressed.. How about your feet?'
Shoma, "Uuun, in the meantime, more than 1 week (not clear, I cannot listen more)"....

It seems he can take enough rest, have good meals. The video several days ago said they speak less because he was currently in the competition. I really find it tough to support top athletes for their families..

Thank you for the translations. About his feet, I read on twitter (grain of salt) that he went to see the Dr. before he came home. They said it will take a week. What that means-a week of rest, is my guess. He has a show on Jan. 4th. Not sure if that will happen now but with a month to Beijing, I'm sure it's being debated.

Dogs have amazing hearing and sense of smell can detect familiar sounds/scents like a car pulling into driveway, doors closing, etc., b/c they know certain sounds mean certain things are going to happen. We've seen them wait at the elevator door countless times knowing the sounds their people make. My dogs used to start barking in the car a block from my MIL's house every time.
They're so gorgeous, btw. And smart.

I think I'm hearing "a week or more" from the video. So it could be a week, it could be longer than that. I'm getting concerned about his possible participation in the show, so I hope Shoma and his team do what's best for his health. Let's send him all our healing energy! :ghug:

Thank you 16Olympics for your lovely story of your dogs!

I have decided. If the situation is settled, I wanna go to WC in France this March. I definitely want to see his programs of this season, and I wanna wish his title !. Originally moving between Euro is easy, but now restriction is there. I am not sure about tickets, brabrabra,,, but if everything goes well, I will go!

I'm thinking about doing the same thing! I already saw Shoma in Las Vegas, but you can never have too much Shoma! 😆 I'm pretty sure Shoma will be at Worlds even if he wins an Olympic medal again. However, I've never been to Europe before and I don't know any French. I'll see how much I can learn before I go there. 😆 I'll keep an eye on the news and travel restrictions and see if I can plan something next year. I might only be there for one day, but it would still be cool to see a World Championships for the first time. 😊

Meet fans where after one month? At the Olympics?

I wanted him off the ice as quickly as possible so he didn't make the ankle worse. He did not look well at the gala.

I know. Seeing him skate at the gala was sobering because when he skated his FS I was like, "oh man, if only he can tack on a +2T in the second 4T at least, the start was amazing!!" Little did I know this competition could have ended a lot worse with what he was going through 😭
