Shoma Uno: 2014-2024

I read another translation on Twitter that mentioned that this congratulatory message from Nathan was done in private.

Having seen the number of people congratulating Shoma in person at Worlds (myself among them) and being aware of just how private a person Shoma is, having a private congratulation from Nathan, whom Shoma admires and wants to be more like, feels especially meaningful.

Honestly, the people on Twitter who think that this is like a high school love confession are being ridiculous. 😆

You actually got to tell him in person? Wow impressive. Good thing Shoma doesn’t have social media (except YouTube) so he doesn’t have to put up with all kinds of comments like that. Although as was mentioned before a while back he doesn’t listen to what people who don’t know him personally say which is great.

I was sitting the area of the crowd near the kiss and cry. Even the closest sections of the arena were somewhat distant from the ice. Shoma didn't seem to notice me when I tried shouting "Congratulations" at him in Japanese from the stands, so I wouldn't exactly call it personal. 😅

When I said "people congratulating him" I wasn't just limiting it to people saying "Congratulations" (though there were some others doing that as well). Cheering, clapping, etc. are also quite congratulatory.

That being said, it still felt wonderful to see him smiling so much after he skated. 😊

I am so glad Shoma won the World title with this Bolero. I think it is the ideal vehicle to emphasise all his best qualities. 4 of the quads were absolutely gorgeous .His triple axel is one of the all time best jumps. The running edge he gets with that knee bend is just breathtaking. And of course the step sequence at the end coinciding with the Bolero building up to a crescendo is unbelievable. The atmosphere there must have been electric because I think that entire crowd was rooting for Shoma . I think all pro skaters and fans wanted to see Shoma get crowned because he is a massive crowd favourite. Even the 2 British Eurosport commentators were really happy to see him get Gold.

Except for the blip at the end, this was the best Bolero I've seen. I secretly wished he would end the step sequence throwing down on the ice like he did when he first introduced this program. That would have been a dramatic move to see after the cantilever but it's probably hard on the knees to practice it. It's amazing to see so much joy in the arena carry him through the program smiling.

Some Shoma photos from Day 1 of 2022 Stars on Ice: Osaka!

He skated Great Spirit for the afternoon performance (4T 3A 3S layout) and Oboe Concerto for the evening performance (4T3Tfall 3Afall 3S layout). I guess he's pretty tired for the evening performance... please don't push yourself too hard this soon Shoma, the off season just started 😅

Apparently in the evening performance he was invited to talk with Satoko (a special segment on Stars on Ice to commemorate her retirement). They talked about their first impressions, and Shoma was asked to say some words to encourage Satoko, but from the fans' reports, he said Satoko doesn't need his encouragement, he knows if it's her she will do well no matter what she decides to do 😆

Kazuki tweeted that him, Shoma and Keiji will upload a three-part Nowvoice collaboration after the Stars on Ice show today, at 15.00 Japan time. Hopefully a kind fan will share and translate what these three talk about!

More fun at the strawberry farm -- this time with the puppies. Those strawberries look awesome. Sho is looking pretty good too! :points:

And a bonus puppy video from when Sho returns from Osaka.

There wasn't just one video of Shoma with puppies at the strawberry farm, but two! Here's the other one:

Can you believe it... we got him winning Olympic medals and Worlds title and still got this super healing cute puppy content. So lucky!

I'm still not over the Bolero step sequence! When I streamed it live I remember thinking what an experience to watch him really kill that step sequence with the knowledge that he's winning the competition. I can sense through the screen that he knew and was confident of his win and it just made the step sequence's energy even better. And I really want to credit Stephane for giving Shoma such a fantastic step sequence at the end of his FS, it was made for a victorious moment like this and made the win even more satisfying.

A fan made this cut of the step sequence with the music transcript of Bolero and it's so fun to watch:

Also I don't think this has been shared but a kind fan shared a bird's eye view fancam of Shoma's Bolero, you get a better sense of the arena's atmosphere from it:

Yes, I'm still not over Worlds :LOL::LOL:
