^^^These videos make me want to visit Shompery more and more. Seems like such a cool place. So happy to see Sho's jumps are looking strong. 🔥

Wow, lots of stuff posted today. I didn't watch this whole video, but this reminds me of what a great team Shoma has. They all have the same common goal of helping Shoma to be the very best he can be. He is so lucky to have Demi-san. Still asking if he needs an assistant. (Asking for a friend. LOL). Wait, does Stepen really say "Whose room is this?" :laugh2: Looks a little chaotic!

They make me want to visit Shompery too. it looks almost too perfect though xD

i love Demi san’s video x tbh I feel vaguely intrusive watching it, but at the same time it’s so interesting to get to peek into shoma’s post competition routine, the kind of care he gets and so on. It’s heartwarming to see he’s so well cared for.
And lmao, Steph is so chaotic in this video. Self proclaimed drama queen xD

Do any of you know who Demi-san is talking to at the end of the video? Is that Shoma's manager? I am nowhere near fluent in Japanese, so I didn't understand all of it, but they appeared to be saying some very kind things about Stéphane and how Shoma has grown under his care at first. Then they were talking about how difficult it is to learn English, lol.

The earlier portion of the video is quite precious. We are so lucky as fans to be able to see moments like this. 🥺 At one point, I think Demi-san was reassuring him that what happened at NHK was a good learning experience. Shoma clearly doesn't need an extra assistant, lol, he is getting all the kind and loving support that he needs. ❤

Yes, the other man at the end of the video is Shoma's manager (and occasional interpreter) Hama-san. I think he also talked about the difficulty of translating especially in high pressure situations, but I'm still waiting for the full translation, hehe.

And they're off. Starting at 1:20. Leaving for Torino. Safe trip guys! Do they have a Sing Along With Stephane during the trip? Looks like there's room for Sho's bags but not for him!

Honestly, fairy is so fast. :laugh2: I always love the chubby little figures. At first I was thinking Shoma was driving! :bang: :palmf:

This is not a full translation, more like the gist of it, but I loved seeing this behind the scenes so I had to deploy my intermediate japanese to try to understand what's going on

Part 1 (the physical therapy part)

Starting from around 3:40 when Demi san is massaging Shoma's thigh muscle.
He's saying that the muscle is really tight & asks Shoma if it hurt during performance. Sho says no, but it did hurt a bit afterwards when he bent over, although it got better. Demi says it looks like it will heal just fine, and makes a comment about worrying about edge misalignment which I don't understand.

He also asks Shoma if there anything he wants to look back to about this time (performance)?
And sho is like “ehhhh… nothing special really” and Demi san laughs because it’s obvs something Shoma says a lot xD
And then Demi says that he hopes Shoma will be able to do the things he can do in this period (until the final) <-- in terms of training I guess

Shoma says that there's really not a lot of time, and Demi san is like, 'well, try to focus", and also that he's relieved there are 'no big injuries' this time, and Shoma replies he’s relieved it didn’t get bad. [note: this kind of kills me because it gave me a perspective of how often Shoma probably gets hurt in competition/practice]

Demi san also says that it's good because he (Shoma) didn’t do things halfway/halfheartedly, i.e. gave his all in the competition.

Then Shoma starts talking about his jumps and he says something like 'as expected I failed the flip like I did in practice', and they continue talking about Shoma's jumps (loop, sal... couldn't catch exactly what they were saying, something about how Shoma could/couldn't jump them during practice?). I think Demi san suggests that when looking back (at the video?) he should think about why he couldn’t jump the salchow.. and then shoma is like "It’s difficult because it changes day by day!" [why are they talking about the salchow? Was it in Shoma's programmed elements and he didn't do it?]

At the end Demi say says that it was a good experience and that 'god* must have given you something' (*'god' is used pretty loosely in Japan so don't make any assumption from this word)
Shoma says that he thinks there is some meaning to it (failure, etc), and Demi san replies that definitely there is.
Shoma continues saying that if he had done it, he might have injured himself more, and Demi san replies that this might be the trigger to get the flip 'closer' (I guess it means get it done without mistakes)

Part 2 - convo between Demi san (D) and Hama san (H) (manager)
(again this is just the gist. there are some parts I can't understand at all, especially with all the background noise)

They start by saying how happy they are that Shoma could have consecutive victories safely (without injury), and that now it's time for the final.
D says it was good that people could see new growth from Shoma, H comments that this time probably Shoma's experience helped him to stay ahead, but that in the end there were results so that's what matters.
H also says that they really want to get 'the first final' [<-- talking about the gold, he says it in a way that really conveys how long they've been waiting for it and I'm like, asfkjsdh]

D tells H what Shoma told him earlier, about how things went the way they did because that's how they were supposed to happen (he mentions god again, but i don't want to translate it as god's will xD) , and maybe it was because of that that Shoma was able to avoid something worse (injury?). [H seems impressed that Shoma would say that, idk?]

Then they talk about Torino (H san wonders if it's going to be cold xD) and how it's the first time for H san to go to Torino. He also mentions he didn't go there in 2006 [for the olympics i guess? Was he a skater or involved in skating even back then?] He also says that Torino is a venue with a lot of feelings/memories associated to it, and that he's looking forward to it.
D san also says something along the lines that the Torino final might become a competition/performance that really moves people. But at the same time he says they will just keep doing things as they've been doing until now [I guess it's their way not to get their own hopes up too much]

(This is followed by a part about being 'positive' that i don't really get) and then H san mentions the importance of Stephane's care, and D san also adds that he was able to see Stephane's feelings all over again in a different way, and see Stephane's 'coach love/affection" ( 愛情). He also says Stephane is a wonderful coach.
H san says that between Demi-san, Stephane and himself, they've finally gotten to the point where each of them can play their respective roles (in supporting Shoma) in the best way. Of course, that was true last year too, but this year things (their roles) have really fallen into place.
H san is being modest and says "I'm not doing anything though!", but then he also says that he has finally understood that there are things he can do besides just following Stephane, and at the same time there are a lot of things Stephane has helped him with, so they're achieving a sort of teamwork (all three of them) where they can help each other in supporting both shoma's physical and mental balance.
H san also says that this time he/they were able to talk a lot with Stephane, so it was good.
D san says something along the lines of making an effort to speak english, but i'm really not sure if he's talking about himself or shoma ( probably about himself).
H comments about how it's difficult to translate. He can do it, but there are things he worries about. He can understand Stephane's thoughts/feelings and translate them because he hears them directly, but it's harder for him to convey to Stephane what Shoma and Demi san say, and he's often not sure how to convey the nuance of things [<-- it's normal, Hama san, it's because you're translating towards your weaker language ;; ]
D says that despite everything they're all working towards the same goal, so they still manage to understand each other.
At the end H san jokes that D san should wear a suit in the K&C rather than sports clothes, at least just the jacket on top xD
(at the end there is a note on screen from Demi san that says that normally the K&C is a 'sacred place' so he (who is 'just' a trainer) feels like it's not a place where he should be, but thanks to the generous heart of the athlete and the coach he was able to do so, so he's really grateful)

... guys I really love this team ;_; so happy I attempted to translate this video because my heart is now so full with how genuinely invested they are into Shoma's growth, health and success, and how they're all supporting each other <3

I’m sure it isn’t too perfect. Just ordinary.

A group trip to Shompery would be marvellous. I have been to Switzerland before and the chocolate box scenery is breathtaking. I wouldn't be able to contain myself if I came across Shoma, though....best to admire from a distance with dignity..😜😁
If I was by myself in Switzerland and I saw Shoma I’d smile, bow, and say hello in Japanese to him. I’d also tell him in Japanese that he deeply inspires me when I figure skate competitively and during exhibitions.

Thank you very much for your translations! They are much appreciated! As someone who has only passed the JLPT 4 in terms of Japanese ability, I am in awe of you. I'm kind of curious about the use of "god" here, do you think the way it's used here could be something like how people use "fate," "destiny," or even "the universe" in English in terms of saying that something was meant to be? Thanks again.

Thx so much for doing all that! You answered my prayer! Seriously, it's terribly frustrating to feel so clueless when they're chatting away and one has no idea what they're saying. I was wishing I just had a general idea of what was going on...They all work so hard for Shoma, and they work so well together. Personally, I love seeing Demi-san sitting in the Kiss & Cry with Shoma!

Shomajesty really deserves this title. I feel extremely optimistic!!!...Predictions update--88 pick Shoma for gold, 42 pick Ilia. I know it doesn't mean that much, but I'm always curious!!!!

I have a suggestion for you if you are ever able to interact with Shoma: be respectful of his boundaries and he will respect you. 😉 (I've only been able to interact with him for a few brief moments...but that is the feeling I get from him.)

Here is the first time I met him. I was very respectful and polite, and he was very nice about allowing me to take his picture. If there are too many people, things get too crazy, and that's a whole different ballgame. I think he has to be a little careful too, security wise...I have been to Switzerland for a few days, but never to Shompery. It was magical and I loved it.

You’re welcome! My Japanese is not super advanced either though (far from fluency and from understanding everything that’s going on) so I can’t answer for sure about the nuance of kamisama here. I am pretty sure that ‘destiny/fate’ are not among common meanings of the word, however. It does straightforwardly translate to god (and also gods in the plural) but as you probably know, japan is pretty laidback when it comes to religion. I’m never really sure what god(s) they’re thinking about, unless I know that the person is Christian. So yeah, in that sense it could be a nebulous godlike being ‘up there’, like ‘the universe is sending me a sign’ (hopefully we’ll get better translations later!)

As a random musing, I wonder if something of Stephane is rubbing off onto Shoma. Steph has said before in at least one interview that he is a believer (as in religious) and that things happen or don’t because of God’s will.

And yes, I love seeing Demi san in the k&c too! Until I started watching his behind the scene videos I didn’t really understand how much work he does with/for Shoma.

Btw, does anyone know how long Demi san and Hama san have been with Shoma?

I believe Demi-san's been there since slightly before he left his previous coaches? I think he was the closest thing Shoma had to a coach at that time. Please correct me if I'm wrong...

Hmm, perhaps Shoma is referring to the skating gods which fans often speak of, lol. 😆

Seriously, though, the insights you gave given me are much appreciated, I had no idea Stéphane was religious...
