It's still the 17th where I am, so happy birthday Shoma! May you continue to be lucky and successful in your endeavors! :hb:๐ŸŽ‚๐ŸŽ‚๐ŸŽ‚๐ŸŽ‚๐ŸŽ‚

I risk sounding like a broken record here, yet it still amazes me how far he has come...and the potential that still lies ahead. Seeing him rekindle the joy for skating that he appears to have had from the videos of his junior days and how he has combined that with a more patient, mature, and refined approach...it seems like his potential for growth is limitless...(Why yes, I took the time to watch a Shomarathon this morning, lol)

I hope he knows how much all of his fans love him, not just today, but every other day of the year...๐Ÿ’•

Angelo Dolfini (currently in Latvia with Deniss and earlier at SkAm with Koshiro) shared some nice words about Shoma in this new interview. He seems to be a fan of every sketer he works with in general, he has a very honest and kind way of speaking of skaters.

I pick the part about Shoma here, but ofc all is worth reading when you're interested in how Champรฉry works and other things.

Do you work with Shoma too?

Sometimes, when he comes here. Of course, Shoma is mainly managed by Stรฉph. We worked a lot with Shoma when he was here full-time during the pandemic... I also had the opportunity to work with him โ€“ and it was a pleasure โ€“ when he came here to Champรฉry [before the Grand Prix]. It was during the Nepela Trophy and Stรฉphane was in Bratislava with Deniss. For a couple of days, three, four days, he basically worked with me. But other than that, he's the one that I see a bit less than the others, because he's not here in Champรฉry so often. But it's always great to work with him. He's such a great guy. Very hard working.

Is it okay to communicate with him, even though he doesn't speak that much English?

Oh yeah, he doesn't speak so much English. But when it comes to figure skating, he understands very well what you mean and what you want from him. And anyway, he's not someone that you need to teach things. He knows. You need to help him find his way, staying in between the lines and not get off track on some jumps. Giving him the feedback on what he needs to do. Then basically encouraging, trying to push him to give his best, but he's very self-motivated, so that's not a hard job.

While I wouldnโ€™t know since Iโ€™m not part of Shomaโ€™s team Iโ€™m sure itโ€™s not that hard to talk to him even if he doesnโ€™t speak a lot of English. Ice skating is its own language. It is more of a language without words and itโ€™s truly beautiful.

Lots of sweets for the sweet birthday boy! Emma wishes Sho a happy birthday! Of course, he has to practice, even on his birthday. And there is Machiko Yamada at the boards cheering for his 4Lo.

Seeing Yamada-sensei instinctively cheering for Shoma landing his 4Lo warms my heart. She really is the "auntie next door" who will not stop rooting for Shoma (her words, not mine) ๐Ÿ˜†

Angelo's interview is great. I think Champery values communication highly, and they all try really hard to keep everyone updated regardless of the language difference. I'm glad Shoma has someone like Angelo to rely on even though he's not his main coach, you can see from the interview he is very detailed and enjoy working to support skaters and help them improve.

I think he'll always be her baby, and she is so proud to have "raised" him. Remember at the Nagoya Festival where she was commentating? He did a gorgeous jump (a 3A I think), and she couldn't contain herself and yelled "Yay!!!!" I'm so happy there is no animosity between them. I'm so grateful that she knew how to nurture his talent.

So what if you repeat yourself on here? I haven't known about Shoma as long as other fans on here so I don't know everything about him that has been discussed on the fandom. I'm sure he and his team appreciate comments from here even if some of them are repeated or very similar.
