I adore how the EEAAO program looks already. It's too bad that the whole program was muted in the stream (grrrrrr) but the short snippet filmed on ice with music is just magical. He has this amazing ability to bring any kind of music to life with his skating, like he gives something new to it instead of just trying to express it. It's like he gives a soul to the music and the whole program. That's how I felt watching him this time as well. The sounds of his blades complement the music perfectly and there's this celestial feeling to the program. I don't know how he does this every time but I am once again beyond excited to see this program develop!

You can see the clip here (another site link).

^^^LOVE hearing the blades P-R-E-S-S-I-N-G down into the ice. I'd be exhausted after 10 seconds of skating like that! Looks like another year where we will be blessed with SO much to look forward to again. Kurt Browning called him a magician and said he's never NOT talking to the blade. Combine that with his stellar upper body movement and -- WOW! Another winner. :bow:Thx to Stepen for continuing to challenge and inspire him! You can feel him just pouring himself into the program!!!

:points: :ghug: :thank::jaw::hb::rock:

New Shoma interview. Wow, the struggles and expectations of being on top! It must feel really tough! Google translate seems to work relatively well (except I wish they wouldn't call him Masama! :laugh2:). Wow, will he go for a 3rd Olys?! These have to be the struggles of all athletes who are on top! The only thing I think we can do is love him and support him and cheer him on. I'm ready!!!!
:hap10::cheer::bsplit:

"Rest" also crossed his mind and world champion Masama Uno's exclusive interview The ultimate goal as an artist and his thoughts on the "last" Olympics

Men's figure skating has entered a new era with Yuzuru Hanyu's professional turn. While Ilia Malinin (USA) breathed new life into the quadruple accelerator (four-and-a-half turns), it was Masama Uno (Toyota Motor Corporation) who took the lead role throughout last season. He won the Grand Prix (GP) Final for the first time and became the first Japan man to win two consecutive World Championships in his home country. However, behind the glory was the anguish unique to the guru. A cross in the name of anticipation. In winter, I thought about resting. The light that came into view beyond the struggle. In a solo interview in Tokyo, he openly expressed his thoughts. (Kyodo News = Shinya Fujiwara

Achieving my goal, that was the beginning of my struggles
One year ago, in the early summer, Uno was having a fulfilling time off. "I was really motivated, I just wanted to practice every day, so I went to the rink." Inspired by the rise of the rising star Malinin, he naturally became enthusiastic about training to improve the accuracy of the quadruple jump. But as the season progresses, his feelings change. In the free of the GP Final last December, he iced four rotations of five degrees: loop, sarcoe, flip, and toe loop. By giving shape to the structure of my personal best difficulty that I had been working on since the previous season, "I was able to achieve what I had been aiming for." This, he said, "became a major factor" in the conflict.

Injured champion, emotionally charged performance
"It was difficult to do more of what we could do, not to be able to do what we couldn't do." In practice, we couldn't afford to make a few mistakes. A vicious cycle in which blood rises to the head, jumps repeatedly, and loses shape. There is no chasing back like Hanyu or a strong rival to ignite the fighting spirit. "In my mind, I wonder if that's an option," he thought about the rest of the next season. At the World Championships in March, where he rode in a state of extreme condition, he suffered a chasing accident. He injured his right ankle in the official practice session the day before the short program (SP). Immediately afterwards, it was hard to even walk. It seemed like a desperate predicament, but life is a strange thing. Misfortune turns into happiness. "It was an injury in the midst of a downward movement, but it was good, it was an emotional performance that I was able to do because I was mentally overwhelmed." Top for both SP and free. The distraught skater defended his throne.

What you are looking for is "complacency.
"
Even after winning two consecutive titles, there was no mood to satisfy one's thoughts or lose sight of one's goal. Rather, the word craving was appropriate. "Because I was able to accomplish one thing I wanted to do, I want to become a skater who can confidently say what I wanted to achieve in the past, 'What is my appeal as an artist?'" Citing former world champion Daisuke Takahashi, whom he has admired since he was a junior, and his mentor coach Stéphane Lambiel, his eyes lit up, saying, "I want to be a skater who makes me want to start dancing when I see it." However, he has scored in the 9-point range in all three items of both SP and free at the World Championships, and is already the top in the world. Because I know that, I feel that what I am seeking may be complacency. "I don't think there should be a perfect 10-point expression, and the evaluation I want depends on what the audience thinks and what I think." The depth of figure skating cannot be measured by numbers. Uno is also approaching the ultimate that Takahashi-san and Coach Lambiel have reached. The off-season will focus on ice shows, with the new season scheduled to start later than usual. In One Piece on Ice, which will be held in Yokohama in August and Nagoya in September, he will dress up as Luffy, the protagonist who aspires to become the Pirate King. "I wanted to embody the charm of figure skating, and to do that, I wanted to perform something that was very far from me and that I wouldn't really do." He sees the new challenge of being an anime character as an opportunity to break out of his shell.

Third Olympics: "If you want to aim for it, that's my culmination"
No figure skating Japan has won a medal at three consecutive Olympic Games. In a sport where young athletes are emerging one after another, this data shows how difficult it is to continue to run on the front lines. Uno will also be 26 in December. When asked about the Milan Cortina d'Ampezzo Winter Olympics in three years' time, he said with a wry smile, "It's still a little too long, and it's going to be hard to think about it now," and confided, "If I were to aim for it, I think it would probably be my culmination or the last." I am aware that I have entered the realm of veterans. "I've been at the top for the last two years, but if the power structure has changed and I think I can't do it anymore, will I still be able to continue?" That is why, while the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics and the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, where he won a silver medal, and the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, where he won a bronze medal, have been regarded as "milestones in his competitive life," in '26, "if you decide to do it, you will aim for the Olympics for the first time." Participating in the Olympics for the third time will require unprecedented determination.

The position of expecting to win the championship..."It's a very good problem"
While appearing in ice shows continues, preparations for the new season are steadily progressing, including the choreography of a new SP that has already been completed. I understand that I am still in a position to be chased by young players such as Beijing Winter Olympics silver medalist Yuma Kagiyama (Oriental Bio, Chukyo University) and Malinin, who are recovering from a left ankle injury. "I know that they expect me to win three consecutive world championships, and I want to live up to that, but as a person who is doing it, I feel like they are saying, 'I don't have much value other than first place,' so I think it's a tough position," he said. On the other hand, I remember four years ago. He finished eighth in the French Cup in November 2019 in the absence of a coach and missed the podium for the first time in a GP. During "Kiss and Cry" waiting for the score, one of them shed tears and felt weak and worried, "I'm about to retire." "Considering that there was a time when expectations started to disappear, it's a great worry to be in a position where you can expect to win so much. An ace of Japan who has grown step by step by struggling and worrying. With a firm eye on his feet, he enters his ninth season as a senior.

Shoma's new program, in all its glory of sound, is here.

Everything Everywhere All at Once, choreography by Stephane Lambiel. Enjoy.

Thank you for bringing this video here.
I don't think there will be a more beautiful program this year. He just gets better and better and Stephane becomes more sublime in his art.

Finally we get to.see the full extent of Shoma's magic. Words fail me! I can see Stephane in there, but most importantly, Shoma makes it his own, as always. When I heard the music choice, my first thought was that the music was going to be too "one note". But with the changes of intensity, Sho's intensity changes too. And how does he change speed the way he does?! :jaw: I hate to keep using the word " magician", but I don't know another word to use! I also love that he has the advantage of having his coach choreograph for him, and they can continue to "tweak" the program together throughout the season, just like he used to do with Coach Fluffy. I really hope Demi-san can continue to keep him in good physical condition, and prayer circle :ghug: for his continued motivation. This program shows he still has SO much to give! And I love the little hops. LOL.

Anyway, I'm still not over the sheer contrast between EEAO and Come Together. I really didn't expect anything out of The ICE since I thought Shoma must be really busy preparing for ONE PIECE but man... The versatility, the control, the finesse... he's operating on a different level, really. It's amazing to see him like this.

Sho did a new NOW VOICE yesterday where he made some interesting comments about expression. Thank you to feimeicheng for her translation.

"I found the reason why I couldn't pick any of my past works as masterpiece is because I didn't let my own emotions involved in my skating. I just expressed by my body in the way I felt about the music. After one month of doing rehearsals for OPOI, since I have to act and move like Luffy, this new experience helps a lot for me to release my emotions for the character and it seems to set a good influence on my performances at "The Ice". I used to search for the "Correct Answer" for artistry which is actually not available. Like, Daisuke has his way of expressing and I have mine. So after all, what I aimed for is something more like a self satisfaction to the extreme than a final answer. But I am willing to keep working on this for self satisfaction."

(my words) I'm so glad OPOI is providing a great learning experience for Sho. Sounds like it is a really good motivation for him! :clap:
