By not showing his hand early in the season, Shoma has the element of surprise and makes it less likely that his competitors will try to copy his style/moves. Less accomplished skaters always look to what the world champion does and emulate it - that's how the sport moves on. Plus with his injury earlier this year, and longevity in the sport, he is making a sensible decision. Don't over compete, build anticipation and let the judges wait for the best male skater to take to the stage. As long as we are fed some crumbs from training, of course...

True. I think sometimes he's announced early too. Kind of to "claim" a song. Altho last year I didn't think he needed to worry about anyone else skating to Mea Shomenta. LOL. Whatever it is, I'm expecting his usual 120%. Seems like he can take anything and make it his own.
