How did Shoma Uno react to being called "cute" that changed his mindset after playing Luffy in "ONE PIECE on Ice"?
Interview with Shoma Uno
One Piece on Ice" Part 2
The TV animation "ONE PIECE" has been turned into figure skating! The first attempt in the history of the work, the ice show "One Piece on Ice - Episode of Alabasta" Yokohama (August 11-13) and Nagoya (September 2-3) has closed its curtain. We interviewed Shoma Uno, who played the main character Luffy with great passion.
"I felt it turned out to be wonderful."
Q: How do you feel after the show?
Shoma Uno: I feel that the ice show itself received a lot more feedback than I had imagined. The audience accepted what we had done for the show, and it made me feel that we had succeeded.
Q: Were you able to say with confidence that it was a good show?
Before the show began, when we started practicing, I was anxious and had many thoughts. But now I feel that everyone has done everything they can, day in and day out, and that the show has been a great success for me. I honestly feel that it was a lot of fun.
Q: I felt that it was not Luffy who was played by Uno, but Luffy himself.
I think everyone created an atmosphere in which I could challenge myself. I was able to take advantage of that, and the atmosphere was really good. Every day was very enjoyable, and I was able to practice to my heart's content.
I don't get nervous when I can practice without any regrets. I had the same mindset. I thought I would definitely be nervous, but I did what I could do, and we all practiced to the point where I could say, "I couldn't have done any better," so I think it turned out really well.
"I can say that we are friends from the bottom of my heart."
Q: Even though it was the day before the Morioka performance of another ice show "THE ICE," I was surprised that everyone came to the rink in Kanto, where you were practicing, and practiced together.
That's how much fun we had practicing (laughs). Of course, all shows have their own charms and are wonderful, but "ONE PIECE ON ICE" was fun for me because it was a challenge in a field I had never done before.
Figure skating is an individual sport, but in this show we were like a team. Although each skater has individual skills, it is not a competition. I liked the atmosphere where everyone was working together to improve each other. It was fun in a way that individual competitions are not.
Q: So you felt like a family.
I felt that we were all friends. I think the fact that I can truly say that everyone is my friend is proof that I was able to spend fulfilling days with them.
I was very impressed by the way Luffy's expression changed so much during the performance, as I have been watching you since Novice.
Haha (laughs). I like anime and manga, and I think I tend to get more emotionally involved in them than other people, so I felt again how much fun it is to get into a role or something.
"I like this kind of thing."
Q: What was your mindset when you were playing Luffy?
I don't know, I feel really good. Usually, when people say "Shoma is cute," I think "I am already 25 years old......" But when I am playing Luffy, I don't feel anything when people say I am cute.
If the character I am playing is a cute character, that is a compliment. I'd rather be called "Luffy" during the show than "Shoma!" That was my own way of thinking, and I was allowed to play the role completely as if I was Luffy.
Q: I think you were able to make the most of your personality this time. How do you feel about it?
I am not a very dexterous person, so I thought I could only cover up my dexterity with my passion. While I was working toward the show with tremendous enthusiasm, the people around me were preparing for the success of the show with the same amount of enthusiasm. That sense of unity was the most enjoyable part of the show for me.
Usually, I compete as an individual skater, and I think many skaters put the competition first. But when you put on an ice show in such a situation, the show is usually a combination of high-level individual skills rather than a team competition.
But this time, while including figure skating elements, the show was created as artistic and entertaining, which was very appealing to me, and I thought that I like this kind of thing.
Q: The other cast members said they would like to do a sequel. How about you, Uno?
Of course I would like to do it, but when you are on the production side of putting on a show, you have to think about many things (laughs). I think there must be a lot of difficulties, and to be honest, I feel I am not good enough at it, so I will do my best in the competition to achieve that.
Q: Lastly, please give a message to the fans who came to see the show.
I think the people who came to see the show and the "One Piece" fans were satisfied with the show. I wanted as many people as possible to see this show.
I also hope that people in various fields will know that figure skating can be so captivating, and I hope that everyone will continue to enjoy these new shows.
Oh my gosh! He lives! Here he is for about 20 seconds in the moff video!
it's back (or wasn't gone) - the linking seems to be off, they work with "@", but not without, but redirecting removes the @. Weird.Just wanted to post the two shorts the OlyFS channel on youtube posted, but now that channel is 404

AHHH FINALLY. I'm so curious over how the SP (EEAO) has developed from the last time we saw it at The ICE, while the free music... I have listened to Spiegel im Spiegel a lot, and loved it, but didn't expect it as a FS music for Shoma. On a surface level the choices are not as straightforward as last yearHis ISU bio has been updated with his programs for 23/24
SP:
I Love You Kung Fu by Son Lux, Ryan Lott, Ian Chang
Clair de Lune (Pied: au Piano) by Son Lux, Ryan Lott, Ian Chang

FS:

Spiegel im Spiegel (Version for Violin and Piano) by Vladimir Spivakov, Sergej Bezrodny, Arvo Pärt
I think choosing Spiegel im Spiegel is really brave. There's nowhere to hide with that music.AHHH FINALLY.
