I'm still emotional over the new free program. It's just... I have so many thoughts about it, it's hard to put it into words. I'm just happy he decided to continue skating 😭 At some point of the skate I just go... "who are you, really" because I can see all the shades of Shoma's past programs in that new program, but also he's never done a program like this before.

The music selection and the way they are played in order feels like the story of his career. Timelapse is led by strings, which are the instruments that has been present as Shoma's strength throughout his career (Kreutzer, Lavender, Winter, Oboe/Cello Concerto, even his Air was led by a cello)- and that the music transition happened in the middle of the step sequence, so that the faster piece and the slower piece shared equal custody of the steps... Spiegel im Spiegel feels like the peace he's found in his career and life after experiencing so many things. When you think about how he has gently "closed the circle" of the things that feels like he's going to regret them, not just missing out on the gold medals and titles, but also the bitterness of competitions and medals he's won and lost in the past that he's not completely satisfied with. I think in his career he managed to at least have one moment where it finally comes together for him.

Competition-wise I think now it's a race against time to prepare for his next competition (Cup of China), as Shoma is clearly not in top competitive shape. But I can't ask for more as a fan when it comes to selection of music and choreography. This free, especially... it just looks like a program to be explored after retirement from competitions, not by the reigning World and Grand Prix Final champion looking to defend his title. And I have so many thoughts for that in itself.

A closer view of the costume Sho wore today. What do y'all think? Shoma being Shoma, I doubt this is the "for real" costume. I always like him in lavender and red, but that's just a personal preference! I was surprised to see dark green in it. I thought it was all black.

I don't know why but I called the costume having green elements on it when I knew about the music selection 😂 Something about the vibe of the music gives me the color shade of hunter green, so I'm not surprised about the costume. I'm ok with it.

This program is hard to put into words!! The structure is unusual and unpredictable - starting with the more intensive piece and ending with the softer one. It's very challenging for sure, and you can see it's unpolished and new, but yes I had tears in my eyes and he once again proved that he can control time. That could have been 1 minute or 6 and I wouldn't know.
Same on the 1 or 6 minutes! And when it was over, I realized I had no clue what jumps he did. It was like I was so into the journey, I didn't care about the jumps. It feels like simplicity and complexity at the same time. At one point, it almost seemed like he caressed the ice with his fingers! I don't want to wait til Cup of China to see him perform it again! :console: Could this be any more different than Luffy?!

The press conference for the Grand Prix series was held after Carnival on Ice. Super busy day for the Japanese skaters! They all gave their goal or theme for the upcoming season. Sho's goal is self-satisfaction, emphasizing expressiveness. His part starts at 1:42. He does have the most gorgeous suits! :party2:

I was wondering how so many people had a photo taken with Sho! Turns out there was a HOSPITALITY package that was avaiilable for purchase. It's about time they're doing something cool like this! I have a friend who did this, and she said it was very nice. The package included:
--Purchase goods without lining up
--Watching the official practices for Japan Open and CaOI
--Special food-for-purchase menus
--A commemorative photo with ONE of your favorite skaters
--Front row seats for JO and CaOI
--Box of souvenir chocolates

Linking this Twitter (X) thread of translation of Shoma's latest nowvoice by shomagravity on Twitter. This is the same as the one Arriba posted but it went into more details about what Shoma means when he talked about pursuing his self-satisfaction this season, and his thoughts on expressiveness in figure skating. A very thorough read to his thoughts.

Shoma will appear in Nino's show "Nino-san" next Sunday! It's a variety show which is a rarity for Shoma - and according to this preview, it looks like a lot of fun!! Can't wait 😁

I can already tell this is going to be hilarious, especially after I translated the trailer!
---

Nino: When I think about Shoma, I get the impression of him wearing his medals backwards...
Shoma: I didn't know they had a front and a back.
Nino: But you're the only person who didn't know they had a front side and a back side!

Shoma challenges the "No-Bounce Ping-pong Rally!"

It hit his thumb?!?

Seriously, I gotta find out what channel this is on and renew my Japanese TV subscription. 😆

Try aqstream🏴‍☠️. They livestream Japanese TV, channels sometimes get blocked though. If you have a VPN, set it to Japan and try tver.jp. Episodes are available here almost immediately after airing, no need to make an account which is nice. I also know of a Arashi fan blog that upload the episodes but it usually take a few days.

Thanks for the information! I will see if being a pirate works for me. 😁

I also just found this Nippon TV page describing the upcoming Nino-san episode. Apparently there's going to be a lot of interesting segments involving Shoma-- segments about his past, unusual challenges, things he's interested in, and a special request for "vegetables that you hate but can be delicious when eaten?!?" (I think it's gonna be some type of eggplant? Not sure if this is the correct way to translate it, but it sounds hilarious, so...😂)
