An Instagram post from Sho?! I almost forgot he had Instagram!

"It was a pleasure to appear on "Nino-san. I had a fun time! Everyone was very kind!" (My translation)

The variety show starts in less than 2 hours! It's during Skate America, though...can I watch both things simultaneously?!? I guess I'll just have to find out...

Shoma didn't know that nobody had ever done a quad flip before!

I've given up on Skate America to watch this. 😂

Shoma brings canned foods and chocolate along with him to competitions, doesn’t like any vegetable other than tomatoes...

Found JNats more stressful than the Olympics partly because people who go to JNats are dedicated fans, while people going to the Olympics may be seeing a competition for the first time.

Everything here is paraphrasing...

You're closer to Texas than I am right now, lol!

Perhaps Shoma is there in spirit, watching along with his dogs... Surely he chose not to go to Texas for a good reason. ;)
True! I'm sure the U.S. wanted Ilia for Skate America. Also in my mind I was preparing that I would probably be going to France to see Sho.
So I had already planned not to go to SA. Worlds is really expensive too. At least there's that to look forward to. I was hoping you would go to NHK and drag me with!!!! LOL.

So everyone was playing a game called Bellz, and the prize was tasting a deep-fried eggplant dish! Bellz involved trying to pick up bells of the same color with a magnet and avoiding bells of other colors. Shoma got second place in the game, tried the eggplant, and said it was delicious! Hopefully he can appreciate eggplant a little bit more now! :cheer:

Shoma also participated in 5 other challenges to try and win a pistachio cheesecake (he said he likes cheesecake!)...but he didn't win any of them. 😭 And the host was like, "Good luck on becoming a three-time world champion!" :palmf:

Here's hoping Shoma wins where it counts (and I hope his family or friends get him a pistachio cheesecake as a consolation prize)! :cheer:

Thanks for the play by play yuumagical! Sounds like it was a fun show for Shoma. Is the video up on YouTube? I love cheesecake but never tried the. Pistachio flavor sounds yummy!
You're welcome, it definitely seemed like Shoma had fun. 😊 I don't know if it's up on YouTube yet (I gotta watch the rest of Skate America before I check...).

I don't normally eat cheesecake (it's a little too rich for me), but I gotta agree that pistachio cheesecake sounds delicious! (Pistachio anything is delicious! 😆) The pistachio cheesecake on the show looked like it had green grapes in it too, though I could be wrong. Now I'm wondering if there's anyplace that makes pistachio cheesecakes near me...lol 🤣

Oh yeah, I forgot something! The program showed a pie chart with Shoma's daily schedule on it. I believe the three biggest portions of the pie chart were labeled "anime," "manga," and "games." (presumably video games) A schedule I'm sure he is proud to have, lol. 😁

It's not on YouTube yet. I was actually interrupted for a little bit during the biography portion of the show, so I hope it shows up on YouTube somehow...

This is a full stream/recording of Nino-san's program with Shoma, but it comes with the Japanese ads so you may need to jump around a bit to watch the actual show:

I still find it so funny that Shoma didn't know that he'd be the first one to land a 4F under the Guinness World Record if he managed to land it 😂

I believe it because he really doesn't think that much about records and trying to be the first one to do something in the sport, he probably thought someone must have already done it before since there were 4F attempts before him. It's just so... him. And Shoma finding Japanese Nationals more nerve-wracking than Olympics makes so much sense! He's always pretty hardcore about Nationals and with the level of knowledge and attention the Japanese fans who comes to Nationals have for figure skating, it's very understandable that he is more nervous about the scrutiny there.

I wonder what kind of chocolate? There is so many kinds. Canned food? No trying the cuisine from the country the competition is in?

I wonder if it’s hard for international fans to go to Japanese nationals to watch?

Since I have some catching up to do on here, can someone answer a question I have about One Piece? For anyone who saw it I saw in a preview online that Shoma and Marin’s characters get into a fist fight. What was that about? What was being said between them (voice actors not the skaters)? Was it a pretty emotional scene? How were the facial expressions?

It's a scene from the anime/manga between Luffy and Vivi. So Vivi is the princess of Alabasta and she is trying to stop the war between the Kingdom and the Rebels by appealing to the Rebels, who is led by her childhood friend Koza. But in the middle of the journey to the rebels, Luffy stopped and disagreed with her, saying that she's naive for shouldering the burden alone/ thinking she can stop the war alone while also wishing no one dies in the war, hence the fighting. Eventually they agree that Luffy will go to fight Crocodile (the villain who is responsible for the conflict- lack of water- that made the Kingdom and the Rebels fight each other) and that they will risk all their lives to beat Crocodile and save Alabasta.

It was honestly a pretty good scene in the ice show 😁 the camera couldn't get too close but it's not just the facial acting, the physical acting was also really good. And they did a couple skating elements together like paired butterflies to convey the argument and the fight. There have been a lot of comments for smiling Shoma as Luffy, but I thought his acting here was really well done, balancing this sort of straightfaced brutal honesty when he points out that the plan isn't working and gradual frustration when he had to face the increasingly distressed Vivi.

And on the fight: they were shadowpunching each other (although Shoma and Marin did say they hit each other accidentally in practices, lol) but Shoma was really good at phsyically conveying the reactions of being punched. Fans said that he even did a trick to make sure that his straw hat flew away right on time when Marin punched him, which I thought seems like a small detail but it's probably harder than it looks to arrange.
