Stephane talks about his season-by-season approach with Shoma in a new Olympics article!
Interview done by Nick McCarvel, who I am already familiar with from around 10 years ago when I started following tennis... such a cool dude.

Anyway, what else is there to say? Everything Stephane said in the article felt like the other half of what Shoma has been saying throughout this summer. I'm just sitting here with a lot of emotions. Stephane knows Shoma so well. I always wonder if it's because Stephane himself have rich, colorful chapters of his own career, so he seems to understand what Shoma is going through as a competitor but also as a fellow performer.

I also find it funny that while Stephane talked further about the Free Skate music selection, he didn't talk much about the Short Program music selection.... well I suppose the multiple "I Love You" explained enough 😂

Their relationship remains fascinating. They spent little time together in person (at least from what we can see on social media) between Worlds 2023 and Cup of China 2023, compared to previous off-seasons. Usually that is cause for concern, but from the program selection, and from this interview... even without having to spend 24/7 time with each other, it's clear Stephane understands well the path Shoma wants to take this season, and giving him the space and the trust for Shoma to pursue that, but also with the support Stephane can give as a coach and mentor ("guide").

Like Shoma said in his newest NowVoice, show season is over, it's time for competition. Here we go!

I'm starting to get butterflies already, and I'm not even skating! 🦋🦋🦋Glad he doesn't have to cope with a long flight and jet lag. And did he bring his own food? 🍖

He skates at 6:30 am my time. The last group is going to be really interesting! Hurry up and get here, Friday!!!!...If I'm reading the dreaded color coded sheet right, be should be on the practice ice in about an hour and a half. Hope we get some photos. And the burning question -- will he have new costumes??? 💜

Also a little bit from Shoma's post-practice interview, where he talked about Adam and Junhwan (a bit):

Kagiyama said in France, "There are a lot of Nathans.'' What do you think of Adam Siao Him Fa's appearance?

Uno:
I like that kind of entertainer, or rather, an athlete who can express something spectacular. (Cha) Jun-hwan and Adam-kun's acting is my favorite among active skaters. I've been saying this since last year, but I think the reason they got results was because their jumps became more stable. I didn't watch his daily practice, so rather than worrying about his results, I simply thought he was my favorite skater as a skater and performer. I feel like, "I knew it earlier than you.'' (laughs)

When did you start paying attention to him?

Uno:
I found out about it last year, too. I was watching and thinking, "oh, I didn't know such a good skater existed.'' I guess that whether you can jump or not is directly related to the result of the competition, and I don't think people will notice until the results are in. "That's what a competition is," I think.

Sorry if this is a little off topic but do you know where to find that Yuma quote? Or have you an idea what the interviewer means with that?

edit. I meant to also thank you for this translation. Saw a snippet earlier which wasn’t as clear

Love the new Team Japan jackets! Looking good!...Shoma already commented last year how much he liked Adam's skating. But Adam was injured at last season at World's and finished 10th. Seems like all the competitors are in pretty decent shape now. Glad to see that. Still waiting for Demi-san to make his appearance. I think his flight was delayed.

Good Luck to SHOMAJESTY in the Short Program :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: I will set my alarm for 5:30 a.m. and try to
get up and catch the Men, the operative word here is "try".
I too will try to catch the men, whether through staying up all night or taking a nap after ice dance. Can't wait to cheer for Shoma again and see his new short program for the first time!!!

(Yes, you heard that right, I wanted to see the movie "Everything Everywhere All at Once" before seeing the entirety of Shoma's short program...and I finally saw the movie today. 😅 I suppose I can wait just a little bit longer to see it in competition...😂)

Cup of China is very close to my timezone... so I'll be awake for the Men's SP, but the tradeoff is I'm currently very nervous on my working hours..

Photos from SP practice today, Shoma's wearing the same costume he wore at The ICE, and his SP runthrough was 2F 4T3T Axel (1A or 2A):

Thanks for the photos, the costume is stunning!

I'm already beginning to get sleepy here. Whatever happens tonight, I'm glad to be living in a universe where I can support Shoma... Let's send him all the luck, all the joy, and all of the positive vibes we can possibly send him! :ghug: Don't forget to breathe! 😁

Same costume as the ice shows, but it's a beauty! Congrats on a 105.25 in the SP. Surprised on the Level 2 step sequence. I've never heard him speak about ice condition before, but he was saying it was hard to do the knee slide moves in the soft ice. Oh well, everyone else had the same ice! Just curious if that was the problem...Glad to see the 4T-3T.

Kill it in the free Sho! You can do it! Go Prince of Our Hearts!!! 💜💜💜💜💜 :dbana:
