Our little world champion is currently in first after the short program at Cup of China! A little surprised by the slower than usual entry into the 4F, but what a pleasant surprise to see the 4T-3T again!!! All in all, this is a good start to Shoma's season so far! :cheer:

Loved today's performance. I am worried by Stephane's comment regarding Shoma closing a chapter on his career. Will this be his final season? I can't bear it if it is.
I wish he hadn't said that, because then he said later something to the effect of "We don't know if this is his final season." Stephane probably has no idea how many fans were yelling "Noooooo!" when he said that. :bang:

It could very well be Unosan’s final season as a competitive figure skater. It might not be. That’s up to him to decide. I’m sure he’ll get asked that question a lot after Cup of China is done and probably throughout the rest of the season. If he decides to retire after this season then good for him. If not, then he’ll keep going. If I had to guess, until he feels 100% satisfied with his skating, he will probably stay around in the competitive field. He can’t be a competitive figure skater forever. Think about what that would do to his body if he kept skating at that level for several more decades. His body needs rest when it needs it. When the time comes and he does retire, he’ll still have a connect to the sport. He said so himself. If he wants to make this season be his last in the competitive field then it’ll be a beautiful end and a beautiful new beginning for him.

Sorry if this is a little off topic but do you know where to find that Yuma quote? Or have you an idea what the interviewer means with that?

edit. I meant to also thank you for this translation. Saw a snippet earlier which wasn’t as clear
This is what Yuma said in a public interview with the media after the Grand Prix de France. A detailed statement has been published in a Japanese sports magazine.

It's in Japanese, but I think you'll understand the gist if you put it through machine translation. Unfortunately, the only thing mentioned about Shoma is that Yuma will be competing with him in the next NHK Trophy.

I think the interviewer simply wanted to use Yuma's expression to explain the fact that there are multiple skaters who can score over 300 points this season.

I really love the program, the costume and the skating. Didn't start out well but it didn't affect what he did after the first two mistakes.

He seems okay with his skate so so am I. Still trying to get over the shock of the fall on the first element.

Silver medal in his first competition against a field that was on fire.

On to NHK and a better beginning for Shoma.
