Shoma Uno

Listen closely...I know I heard some "I Love Yous" somewhere in that ice dance routine...! I think they were overlaid onto the other piece of music that Harris/Chan of Australia used. Not used in the same way Shoma used them, but they are there!
Wah! I need to watch them in full, hehe. Also one more - Piper/Paul's A Whiter Shade of Pale is derived from Air on the G String, so... it did remind me of Aria a bit, before I got distracted by Paul's open back :ROFLMAO:

Honestly, Harris/Chan's music choices impressed me more than their dancing, but they were still pleasant to see and worth a watch. :) You just gotta hear how they used the "I Love Yous!"

I saw Piper/Paul as well and was debating to myself whether I should mention the Air on the G String reference or not. They are certainly elegant enough to pull off the music choice and the way they expressed their elegance in a bold way (with a tango, of all things!) also reminded me of Shoma. I know there's a lot of people that hate Paul's costume, but for some reason I don't mind seeing Paul's back, lol. :ROFLMAO:

Does anyone know if Shoma has ever mentioned his grandpa before? The one that is a famous artist. I have read a few articles on his grandpa and how proud he is of Shoma as well as a video too. A grandpa's love for his grandchild is a powerful thing. Maybe in the future Shoma will share a story or two about him if he chooses to.

I wish he would, but I doubt it. In general, he doesn't say much about his family. We never hear much about mom and dad and hear some stuff about brother Tree.

Also, just in case there's anyone here who enjoys buying Japanese FS magazines, I will recommend buying this one, as it doesn't only have photos but also a lot of Shoma-related content, such as:

- Interview with Shoma, fan reports are saying the first half is about looking back at his career and the second half is about what's next for him;

- Interview with Stephane by Hiro Yoshida-Gillis, and most of it is about Shoma. Very emotional read, a lot of crying in the fan reports;

- Messages from 18 active Japanese skaters for Shoma, both from the men and women, on his retirement as well as their favorite programs. Fans said Loco, Grespi and Bolero are popular choices

I bought this magazine last month.
I love an interview with Stephane and “Thank You Shoma-kun” (Kohai skater’s comments for Shoma)
I can’t translate the interview so I just translated a part of “Thank You Shoma-kun”

:love:What is your favorite Shoma’s program?

Sota Yamamoto
I love so many programs.
Loco is the best for me because it’s unique and cool.
Turandot 2.0 When I had a difficult season because of my injury, this program encouraged me.
Stairway To Heaven brushing his hair upward is so cool.
Great Spirit and Dancing On My Own (Nationals) He graduated from Grand Prix Tokai and struggled but he could be National champion. I was so moved and almost cried.
I love Bolero.
Gravity and Air On The G String He could perform not only powerful but loss of strength and I could learn from him.

Yuma Kagiyama
I love so many programs.
Loco is the best.
I love Great Spirit so I chose Believer last season.
I watched and watched Great Spirit on YouTube and I can skate step sequence.

Shun Sato
Of course I love Ladies in Lavender.
And Great Spirit

Kazuki Tomono
I love Legends so much because it’s first SP as a senior skater.
His image as a skater changed a lot and it was impressive.

Koshiro Shimada
I love Loco at Helsinki Worlds the best.
And Everything Everywhere All At Once and Bolero
At first Shoma mentioned about Bolero, “It’s so difficult and I can’t.”
Finally he could do great performance and win at Worlds and it was what Stephane wanted to see I think.
I was so moved and I almost got goosebumps.

Kao Miura
I love Loco the best because the balance of powerful and sensitive movements is good.
I love Bolero because he seems to reach his limits.
Not only jumps but each movement were so great and the last he seems to collapse because he skates so hard.
I love it so much.

Nozomu Yoshioka
I love 2019-2020 season Great Spirit and Dancing On My Own.
Nobody skates for such a number like Great Spirit and it’s so exciting.
I like a stop before step sequence and before 3A and it’s so cool program.
He struggled first half of the season so I was so moved to see Dancing On My Own at Nationals.

Tatsuya Tsuboi
I love Turandot 1.0 the best.
When I was novice skater I saw his senior debut GPF and he got a bronze medal.
It was so impressive and I was so moved.

Sorry you’ve already seen it.
It’s so difficult and I might make some mistakes.
What is your favorite comment?

@jerrymouse333 Thank you so much for posting this! So many people like Loco and Great Spirit. I was a little surprised that no one mentioned Winter or Stairway to Heaven. Loco and Ladies.in Lavender made his 2016-17 very special. Those 2 programs are probably my favorites, but he had so many good ones! Mea Tormenta, Shoboe, Turandot 2, Moonlight Shomata. His skating really seems to have made a strong impression on his teammates. For me, his versatility is so impressive.

Several.times I've read people saying "His programs are all the same", and it really makes me laugh. I think of the 3 L's right away -- Legends, Loco, Ladies in Lavender..Some.people may need glasses. LOL. All totally different. His grit and determination and ability to never lose.the power of the performance always impressed me -- even if he fell or popped a jump. Sigh. I miss him and I love being his fan.

Adding: Have to give Honorable Mention to some of his wonderful exhibition programs too: This Town, Padam Padam, Come Together.

Thank you so much @jerrymouse333 for summarizing the favorite program section in the magazine! I was hoping someone would give a hint on what the skaters chose as their favorite programs, lol.

Sota listing every single program and the memories he associated with them, is he me or what? I had a hunch Great Spirit was popular- and I also knew it was Yuma's inspiration to choose Believer for his short program in the 2022-2023 season (that he kept for another season due to injury). Kazuki the Legends stan as always  Shun of course respecting LiL, Kao already mentioned Loco in a TV program as his favorite Shoma programs... it's cool to know what Nozomu and Tatsuya thought too. Bolero shows up a couple times, and aww Koshiro sharing a bit over what Shoma thought about its difficulty.

I’m always embarrassed to translate.
Sorry for my mistakes.
Here is ladies kohai skater’s comment. (Satoko is not kohai. Shoma and Satoko are the same age.)

:love:What is your favorite Shoma’s program?

Kaori Sakamoto
I love Moonlight .
This season he won 4CC title.
Second year 4th place, third year 3rd place, fourth year 2nd place, and finally he got gold medal.
He seemed very happy on the podium and both program and costume were great.
Everything was perfect.

Mone Chiba
I love the last season’s SP, Everything Everywhere All At Once, because I love the atmosphere.
His step sequence expresses powerfulness and gracefulness.
It’s great program so I feel it too short.

Rinka Watanabe
I love Moonlight because I’d like to express like that.
His skating is like a clear (not hazy) night and it’s great.

Rion Sumiyoshi
I love many programs.
I love Air On The G String because I sometimes skate it for skating lessons.
It’s a very simple music but he can tell a story and he can bring a joy to audience.
His technique is great.

Mai Mihara
I love many programs and each has a charm.
If I choose one program, I’ll choose Turandot 2.0.
Especially cantilever is really great and I was so moved and I almost got goosebumps.
Both skating and expression were great.

Hana Yoshida
I have two programs in my mind.
If I choose one program, I’ll choose Bolero.
I forget the name… small pattern…Great Spirit?
I love the step sequence and I’d like to rewatch it.

Yuna Aoki
Turandot 2.0 is so impressive because I love princely costume and I feel his powerfulness from this program.
I love it so much.

Wakaba Higuchi
I love Bolero and Turandot so much.
I could see Bolero at ice shows many times and it’s impressive.

Satoko Miyahara
I love Bolero the best.
Turandot 2.0 is impressive.
I also love gala program Padam Padam and I always think it great.

Rino Matsuike
I love Bolero.
I used to skate Moonlight, so It’s so special for me.
When Mihoko-sensei choreographed this program, she said “When the music started, audience was so focused on his performance from the first moment.
(He could bring audience to his world.)
When I am training, I think “I’d like to perform like him.”

Why Shun chose LIL this season?
Why Rinka chose Moonlight this season?
They like Shoma’s programs and I’m happy to know.
And I love Rino’s comment.
Shoma is a great senpai.:party2:

Aaaahh!! Thank you so much @jerrymouse333 for translating!! Very interesting point of view from the ladies!! I didn't expect Bolero to come up so often, but I remember that Shoma did a lot of Bolero during the 2021 summer ice shows, because the Japanese ice shows can only invite Japanese skaters because of the travel ban. So he shared a lot of ice time with the Japanese skaters at shows, including the ladies. I'm pretty sure Wakaba must have seen 80% of the Bolero Shoma skated that summer, LOL. They shared so many shows: Stars on Ice, Prince Ice World, The ICE and also Friends on Ice in 2021, and then of course did Japan Open together.

Turandot 2.0 is the most princely program of Shoma's, so I understand Yuna Aoki and Mai completely. Kaori and her 4CC memories of Shoma with Moonlight was unexpected! It's very sweet for her to remember that Shoma had the 5-4-3-2-1 progress at 4CC hehehe. Mone loving EEAO and Hana loving Great Spirit and Rion loving Aria, it's so cute to know the perspectives of the younger skaters who don't necessarily share a generation with Shoma... and Satoko loving Padam, exquisite taste (the recording of Padam Padam that Shoma used is in the same album as Satoko's Song of Little Sparrow).

Rinka and Rino and Moonlight... Rinka has spoken about her Moonlight program this season taking some inspiration from Shoma, and Rino herself has a beautiful Moonlight program of her own.

Seeing the variety of programs talked about by the other skaters as their favorite really made me remember just how rich Shoma's competitive career was. I'm so happy that he left something for the other skaters to remember and have good memories of, from many different aspects.

Before the GP series started this season, Shoma was asked in his members only Youtube about who the skaters are he watching - and he answered Koshiro-kun, and well, I suppose he did watch

Hello everyone, I am considering going to the Prince Ice World show in February to see Shoma again! First of all, would it be possible for someone for the US to directly pay for a ticket to see the show or do I need to contact my Japanese friends for assistance? If I am able to pay for it, which of the various payment methods listed on the website would work best for someone from the US? Second of all, is there a significant difference between the afternoon and evening shows, or even between the shows on different days? I am not sure if I would
want to see more than one show if they are all basically the same type of show. Last but not least, do I need to brush up on my knowledge of Broadway musicals before seeing the show? Even though I've heard a lot of music from musicals by simply being a skating fan (and by playing the music from "Les Miserables" in my high school band, lol), I have to admit that I haven't watched any Broadway musical before...

Edit: Oh wait, one more question! Do they still allow fans to ask questions to the skaters, take photos of the skaters, and/or give gifts to them at the end of the show?

Hello! I will try to answer one by one:

- To be safe I think you need to ask for assistance from a Japanese friend for the Prince Ice World tickets to purchase and have it issued from 7/11 or Familymart or Lawson, and get it physically before the show from your friend. If I remember correctly they had no way of purchasing the tickets from abroad unlike The Ice.

- The main Prince Ice World team numbers are the same throughout all shows, but the guest skaters may alternate 2 programs between afternoon and evening. My advice would be to purchase 1 show first, and then if fan reports came in about Shoma doing 2 different programs for afternoon and evening, consider purchasing a same day ticket for the show you haven't watched.

- I don't think you need to know all about musicals, because the group numbers do express the music but not actually acting the story out. I need to look up the list of musicals that they will skate to in this particular run, because it's different from last year's Broadway theme. What I remember is they have Jesus Christ Superstar and also Kinky Boots this year... I think also Dear Evan Hansen.

- You can no longer give gifts to the skater unless it's specially sold gifts by PIW themselves for you to buy and give the skaters, if they do it (they sometimes don't). You can take photos during the meet and greet time (none before!!) And you can ask questions if you are sitting in the front row.

The ColanTotte video. Nice camera work!

@yuumagical right on cue, the Prince Ice World account just tweeted this thread on Twitter about the meet and greet session and information for the Tokyo shows:

You can click the tweet for the full thread of information. What a good coincidence!

While I appreciate the information contained in the first post regarding being able to give flowers to the skaters, I honestly do not want to log into Twitter to see the rest of this thread. I have deliberately chosen not to log into Twitter for quite a while, and given the outcome of the US presidential election, it is definitely not a place I want to return to at this time.:slink:

Would it be possible to summarize the information contained in other posts in the thread? I can only see the first post without logging in.

We are pleased to announce that “Meet & Greet” will be held after the Tokyo show as well! You will be able to take pictures only during the “Meet & Greet”. Those seated in Premium Seats 1 and 2 will be able to hand flowers directly to the performers near the rink.

For safety reasons, the announcement will be made at the start of the “Meet & Greet”, and the first to be announced will be those seated in “Premium Seat 1”.

Flowers will be limited to the designated flowers available for purchase at the venue. Floral arrangements will be announced as soon as they are confirmed.

*Please drop off gifts and letters other than the designated flowers at the “gift drop-off desk. Please leave any gifts or letters other than the designated ones at the “Gift Deposit Reception”.

*People seated in seats other than Premium Seats 1 and 2 will be able to watch the “Meet & Greet” and take pictures at their own seats. Photographing or recording is strictly prohibited except during the “Meet & Greet”.

This is pretty much the same as it was when I went to PIW Tokyo in January 2023, but /with/ flowers provided by PIW you can purchase to gift directly to the skaters, if you are sitting in Premium Seats 1 and 2.

If you're sitting in seats other than Premium Seats 1 and 2, you can't give them flowers directly, but you can leave your gifts and letters in boxes with performer's name on it (usually there's a reception). Also, you can take photos with phones and/or cameras during the Meet and Greet time (not before!!) but just be careful not to block other fans wanting to take photos from behind/beside you.
