Shoma Uno

They're so jumpy he can't even pet them.
I was kind of hoping he had brought one of the family dogs to Tokyo to live with him, but seeing how jumpy they all are makes me think that this isn't the case... Oh well. Hoping he got lots of dog cuddle time while he was there!

Think Shoma will do more ice shows in Champéry in the future? When I read an article about L'Apprenti Sorcier it said it was like Shoma saying goodbye to a place he called home for years. I would think since he loved it there so much he would go back to perform there if offered the chance and if it fit into his schedule.

I don't think he brought one of them with him too... I also think it may be that the family and Shoma didn't want to separate one of them from the others, which may be the case if Shoma brought one to Tokyo. They really seem to be at home in a pack (and even when they separate they usually stay with a family or the breeder who have more dogs for them to socialize/play with).

Maybe one day. I heard a show with the scale of L'Apprenti Sorcier was quite difficult and costly for Stephane to produce in Champery, but it was well-received by not just fans but locals alike, so maybe someday in the future they will do it again and Shoma will be there if offered. Champery does have a Christmas/New Year show every year, but Shoma will be working during that period (Japanese Nationals).

But overall I just think Shoma's plans still need time to consolidate, maybe in the next two years, or even after the 2026 Olympics. Not now. He retired at a career point where he was still competitive, meaning that up until the end of his competitive career, he still competes a full season, with the exception of doing Four Continents and the Challengers / Senior B competitions. But he was still doing GPs, he was still doing Nationals and Worlds. He did plenty of ice shows in the off season. And he did it for almost 10-11 years straight, so in my opinion it will take time some time for him to come back to full grind as a show / professional skater.

This always makes me smile when I see how Shoma had to.check.Stephane's reaction to.see how he did. I know some.people said he shouldn't be skating to please his coach. With as long as his career was, I always figured he had a right to use whatever he needed to motivate himself. The Challenge Cup DOMO was especially cute. That look of "Wait a minute, I just did the 4S" was so cute! Love the happy look at 2019 Nats after Great Spirit

Shoma has been open about this, that he found it more fulfilling when the people around him who have also worked hard and watch him work for competitions are happy from his skates and his wins, than from the win itself. It's not just when he was with Stephane, but also when he was with Mihoko, and then for Demi-san (his personal trainer) as well, who expressed his wish that he wanted to see Shoma win a big gold medal one day.

It was actually one of the reasons Shoma was devastated about the 2019 World Championships result, because he went in to that competition wanting to win, to answer Demi-san's wish. (Demi-san has spoken in interviews that he felt guilty that his wish made Shoma think that way - I'm glad it worked out at the end for the two of them).

Whether it's the right motivation or not, in my opinion Shoma is very lucky that he is very much loved by the people he wants to make happy. Or is it the other way around? That because the people around him know how much he cares about and loves them, that he is cared for and loved in return. His skating is truly raised by love.

And it's fitting that one of the best skates at the end of his career was born out of the intention to make his coach happy.

^^^Yes, and I found it odd that people would criticize that motivation. Why shouldn't he be able to find his motivation wherever he chose. I always found that motivation endearing, whereas other people were troubled by it. I care more about the fun video than what others think. And I still laugh when I hear Stephane call him Crazy Fire.

2019 Worlds? That's a whole other topic in itself.

I'm fine with people not relating to that kind of motivation from a top athlete (because it's unusual), but it usually comes with a lot of assumptions of Shoma's personal life and personality, which is very presumptuous from fans. Like either you relate or respect it or not, no need to be too imaginative about it.

Fuji TV preview for Nationals has a preview of Shoma interviewing Yuma at Chukyo University rink. Also Shoma skating beside Yuma... 🥹

Also looking at Shoma's sweater, it seems to be the same day as when he visited Uno Cafe and gets tackled by all the dogs hehehe. Makes sense, both of the locations are in Nagoya.

The Japanese Shoma fans have been anxious about buying a new calendar for 2025 since Shoma will not release any calendar, but never to worry! Apparently Mizuno has a promotion event where if you buy items of JPY 11,000 and more, you'll get a 2025 Mizuno Calendar 😌 Right on time for Christmas shopping, and guess who's on the cover...

P.S. Speaking of Mizuno I have received my Mizuno photobook and it's..... a very worthy purchase. It had photos of Shoma throughout the Mizuno campaigns from 2019-2024, and of course some new photos from 2024 never released to the public. And those photos are incredible. Thank you so much @jerrymouse333 for helping me buy the photobook 🥰

Can I guess what he was wearing in those unseen photos? Was it a suit? More sweaters? Leather jacket?
