Shoma Uno

I want to try answering this one by one, after the end of Shoma's competitive career. Thank you @jerrymouse333 for posting it again!

(1) My Favorite Performance of Shoma

Wow this is very hard, lol. I'll try to keep it to the last 12 (twelve) months and.... well, it's obviously NHK Trophy 2023 FS, which was Timelapse and Spiegel im Spiegel.

There are a lot of memories (good and bad) attached to this program, but I remember how in awe I am that Shoma managed to make the program work in competition, under the bright lights. The NHK audience also helped in creating that profound moment of silence throughout his program. This FS is so hard to perform. The music selection and the way it's cut is not exciting at all, lol. It builds in the first half only to kill all momentum in the second half. It's very punishing to any flaw in anyone's skating. One cannot be too smooth and also cannot be too rough, cannot be too slow and also cannot be too fast. It's just very hard and complicated to do, in the most quiet way. Just like Shoma's career.

And yet he managed to skate like that. Even the popped quad, and how he recovered it at the very end. To me this was the final statement of who Shoma really is as a competitor. He is calm and calculating, he knows how to push himself physically, and yet he is also a natural artist who was able to skate like that because of the love he has inside him for the people he loves. Knowing that he skated that to cheer Stephane up was really one of the most touching moment in Shoma's career to me. He can skate like that not just because he wants the gold, the medals and the scores, but above all, he just wants to make someone that he truly loves happy.

I think that's what makes Shoma so irreplaceable for me. Like there are so many more talented skaters, so much better than him at jumping, at doing transitions, at doing compulsory. But no one skates the way he does. And the reason he skates the way he does is because of who he is as a person. If he had similar ambitions as other skaters, he wouldn't be able to skate like that. So yeah, I have a lot of feelings about this performance and it will probably remain one of my favorites when I look back.

Honorable Mentions: All performances of his 2023/2024 SP but especially the first one I watched which was his SP at The Ice Nikko, Come Together at GPF 2023, Bolero at SOI 2024, and Ladies in Lavender at PIW May 2024. And of course the DOMO he skated in PIW January 2024 - because I watched it live! Hehehehe.

I honestly can’t decide which one is my favorite because I love all of Shoma’s programs and I’m not saying that to be nice. In my opinion he is the most complete figure skater ever because he has it all and is just a very likeable guy.

Hello! Shoma attended a cinema screening of One Piece of Ice today and gave greetings along with Marin, Mura and Rika Hongo.

He said he's been working out to build his arm muscles, since last year he thought they were too "squishy". He's now able to do 50 push ups every day, which he previously can't 😂

When I first saw a picture for it and it didn't have the One Piece sign on it, I seriously thought Shoma and Marin were getting engaged because of her white dress.

--He talks about how he looks forward to his new role as a professional and an entertainer and how it will be a different focus where he will not be concentrating on points but rather on expression.
--He is looking forward to his Turandot duet with Jun at The Ice.
--Lots of talk about his vision as a pro skater. The English subtitles sorta kinda make sense (sorta kinda).

Here you go 7-20 & 21 and 7-27 & 28. The web site shows the cast. I haven't heard of any females who were added. And I think Nikolaj Memola had to drop out because of injury. (His Fan Fest shows that but doesn't state the nature of his injury).

I hear you on the heat! Is summer over yet?! And we haven't been getting it nearly as bad as you guys! Hang in there!

Wow.

Ahh, hi, by the way ☺️
So, after changes in life my figure skating related time diclined to a minimum during last season. I tried to follow the major tournaments but could not read/post anything and sometimes I'd watch programs, competitons on demand days/weeks later. So staying away from news etc. was partly necessary as well.

That's the reason I also only just read about THE NEWS 😳
I'm happy for Shoma, happy that he became a person who is now putting himself first. Not in a selfish kind of way ofc.
Knowing when the time has come, knowing how to express himself on important topics etc.

And he's not forced to step back because of injury or anything, but made this decision freely.

And continues in the way he wants!

And through the last ~15 pages or so in this thread I also learned from other retirements?! Gosh, what else did I miss 😱
Have to check all the news now. No, checking the PNs first... ❤️

Hi there @yesterday. Good to "see" you. It's definitely been a while. Gosh, you'll have lots of reading and catching up to do. Enjoy!
Hey! Yeah I cross-read the pages here following worlds/the announcement. And I already caught up on some smaller threads.
But I will def. pass on most of the others, like comp threads or the main discussion threads.
(programs, injuries, switches, retirements,..) 🙈 that's just too much.

I'll come across the news in one way or another :)

Shoma skated at Prince Ice World Kagoshima today! He did his new program choreographed by Marin, The Spectre, with a new costume!

Reports said he jumped 4T, 3A/2A and a couple of 3Los, and he had a choreo where he took off his jacket/hoodie during the program 👀

And of course this being PIW we have a lot of photos on Twitter. Kagoshima is pretty far so I'm glad Shoma fans came and are sharing the photos!
