Shoma Uno | Page 16 | Golden Skate

Shoma Uno

He needs to bring back Stairway to Heaven. That season he was having a lot of ankle troubles and never skated that program to its full potential. It has an amazing step sequence choreographed by Fluffy. The moves didn't look sharp and staccato here like they would normally. But anyway that would be a fun program to revisit.

The way the drums rushed in to answer the clap is such a moment in the program... I really love that it is an embodiment of Shoma's relationship with music, like his skating and the music have always been equal partners, making each other better, and this program is like the physical manifestation of how that relationship works.

This great montage played before Shoma's performance. What a career. I laugh every time I see him in that pink suit. I remember him saying he took some grief from his classmates for that suit. That's ok! Look where he is now! Tiny Sho will always be the cutest!

Another fancam from last night. So good!!!!

The piece KODO played for Shoma's program is titled 巡 ("Meguru"), and this Kanji means the following:

巡 means "circulate, patrol, tour."

Circulate - To move in a circle or around a particular area.

Tour - To make a journey, typically for pleasure, visiting a number of places in turn.

Patrol - To go around an area, especially as part of a guard or in search of something.

Inspect - To examine closely and carefully, typically in order to detect problems or errors.

In a way, it fits the concept of the program so much- circling back on his competitive years, taking the journey through each of them physically with their "moves" and then for the future it's like taking one last look before going to search what comes next. I'm not sure if the title of the piece selected is on purpose or just a coincidence, but it's very fitting regardless.

You can listen to the original recording of the piece here (KODO remixed it for Shoma's program):

Time off well spent for Shoma in between The ICE performances. Today he watched the Kashima Antlers FC vs. Brighton FC friendly football game today at the National Stadium. With Marin of course! Kaoru Mitoma, a Japanese footballer Shoma admires, plays for Brighton.

That's a shame... it's a fun event. Although it doesn't impact my speculations since I'm pretty sure Shoma has zero intention to participate at Japan Open this year as a competitor, lol.
Right, too soon. I always enjoyed it though and thought of it as the kickoff to the season. It made me appreciate how early on in the season, you could see how polished Sho's programs already were from having skated them multiple times in MANY ice shows. And skating under spotlights was difficult too at the shows. I'd love to know the reason behind the decision though. It's been around in various formats since 1997. There are so many different shows now. Maybe it's an event that's run it's course.

Likely money issues? I think with the weak yen, it's not as easy to fund these events anymore. I also think losing the skaters that were the biggest draws in the last 5 years add to it. It's not just Shoma retiring and likely not wanting to prepare a 7-jumping pass layout right now, but also Nathan is obviously busy with college. The Russian girls attracted a lot of attention and all of them are also banned.

True. I don't know what skaters they would invite who would be the big draw. And the Russian girls were always popular. With Mao's shows, Uncle Dai's , One Piece, plus the other shows? Too much! An overly saturated market.

I thought Shoma was wearing an Uno1 Cafe shirt. Emma is going to get jealous! This one is fun too! I'm always amazed at how quickly fans identify his clothing.

ナガスギルイヌ is a delightful character from Graniph, a Japanese brand known for its unique and quirky designs. Despite its elongated body, Nagasugiruinu is not a Dachshund; it’s an original creation. The concept behind this charming character is both whimsical and heartwarming. Imagine a dog that believes it’s perfectly ordinary, even with its unusually long body! 🐶
