Maybe not by other skaters performances yet, but I remember I seeing an older competition video from 2016 or maybe 2017 when Shoma finished in Japan, got off the ice in happy tears and both his coaches hugged him for a while. It was a beautiful moment. At least I hope they were happy tears. It was after that Spanish sounding program with the black and red costume. Then he cried in 2019 from all that happened but also the support of the crowd. He said at that time he was moved to tears by the audience because even though he struggled he was still loved and supported by fans. I think he will be moved to tears again.

2016 was more tears of frustration? disappointment? that he didn't skate his Loco program better. He was upset. 2019 he definitely felt the love of the crowd. I was supposed to be at that competition but couldn't go because of a family emergency. I think I was glad I didn't go! What a miracle tho that Stephane happened to be there and approached him saying possibly he could help.

I wonder if Shoma had to practice what he had to say a lot when he interviewed Yuma on that special interview but also the other skaters.

Pretty sure he has a list of questions, but the conversations between skaters seem to flow very easily. Plus the fact that Sho knows exactly what they're feeling in terms of pressure, expectations, etc. is such a natural fit.

Thanks rabidline for all the Sho content, early Christmas present for me! That was a great interview.
He definitely is loving his retirement, he was relaxed and very upbeat in the interview. Marin is
a lucky woman to have Sho as her partner, underneath all of his ambition he really is a gentile soul!

It's very sweet - I just got this recording from the broadcast (BS? Terrestrial? aksjdnaksjd IDK) of Rio saying to Marin after the SP that he saw Shoma at rinkside commentating and it motivated him a lot!

Oh, I can't! Rio's words "You were my idol since I was in elementary school.! The day after I watched your match, I practiced as if I was Shoma! I tried to imitate the way you use your hands and do the Klimkin Eagle. Shoma was my idol! I will continue to be bold and do my best!

Quite a learning experience at J-Nats. Maybe not quite as easy to be champion as people might think.

And now we have finally a new Japanese National Champion... Shoma is scheduled to interview Yuma as the new Champion tonight so will try to post when it's up somewhere.

Also isn't it fitting that at the first Nationals after Shoma's retirement, the 1-2 is Yuma and Rio, who both have expressed their admiration and look up to Shoma a lot. I think Shoma has always uphold the value of this competition throughout his career and it makes perfect sense that the skaters who looked up to him the most were able to deliver when it counted.

P.S. LOL Yuma said he is inspired by Shoma for the starfish:
