Sinitsina/Katsalapov future prospects

Budgets are being cut by 10 percent (due to the prep for the 2018 world cup) and Irina Viner, the head coach of the rhythmic gymnastics team, thinks they will be reducing the number of foreign specialists on the payroll and also reducing the number of foreign training camps.

So if SK are in the market for another coach, they'd probably have to go back home. Krylova is supposedly more expensive (according to a comment Arkady Sergeev's wife made) and the cost of living in Princeton, NJ is much greater than that in Ann Arbor so Platov might be priced out for them.

More like Ruslan was trying to diffuse the matter while trying to be respectful, but Trankov was constantly trying to belittle Ruslan. Hey look K had S picked out for at least a year in advance. No one thought the "little man" would develop nor did they care because K is the "man". LOL.. Not to say that K is not good. But I loathe how disrespectful the community as a whole has been to Ruslan. I hope they all live to regret it. So in my book K/S belong together.

This is bullying in a way. Not every bullying is that obvious from my understanding.

Federation pays their training in US after they accepted them as a pair in May.

Only partially, is my understanding. And considering they didn't make the national team now I assume that funding will stop?

Both M/K and S/B were on the national team despite not medalling at Nationals until this year. S/K will probably be on the National Team.

They still can list them as reserve team for funding like last year. Senior team probably will be B/S, I/Z, M/K, S/K and they usually accept junior champions too (Y/M). There is still chance for S/K and Z/G making senior team of course.

No. Virtue/Moir's technical elements, especially lifts from olympic year is not good. They had problems with straight line and rotational lift all year; curve lift is very generic and juniorish. Quality of the technical elements goes to Davis/White. The Seasons is not good. A lot of music cuts, no highlight, some empty places before elements (especially steps) So quality of the program goes to Davis/White too. I agree Virtue/Moir have basic quality but as you said Davis/White had speed.

Lift aren't ice-dancing, sorry, at least not the ones we have now, as are the spins.it doesn't show you are a good skater but a good acrobat. There's a reason they used to be called dance lifts...

As for the Seasons, it's a matter of taste, you don't like it, I like it. Actually I think it's the only FD were they showed their true artistic potential. Yes, Zoueva tried to kill it but still, I see the brillance, though I agree it comes mainly from the skaters and not the choreography. You probably liked Carmen, I tought it was one of the biggest rip off ever and a pretty crappy FD. Everybody being so amazed by something which been done to death, classical or non classical interpretation, I still can't believe it. They were maybe just surprised VM choose something like that.

DW, please, technically, there's two or three worlds between them and VM. Just watch their blades. You can now win ice dancing being a not so good (very poor*) ice dancer, as Cappellini*** Lanotte* proved it last year. Being pretty still helps.

Aha, thanks for the explanation.

I think I remember Nikita saying in an interview, he uses some of his prize money to pay for the coaching. If the fed helped at all, it would be only partially.

Nikita used his prize money for the first month or so of training, then after both new teams were approved by the federation at the end of May, they were added to the reserve national team and received funding from the 1st June last year.

All the funding comes from the government, as the sports ministry is a government institution. "Putin is paying for it" is probably a flippant remark with some truth to it as Putin more or less is the Russian government. Kind of like me saying "I pay your salary" to an incompetent DMV employee. I am not signing the checks but it's my tax dollars.

Gosh, I felt exactly the opposite on all points. I thought Carmen had great potential, but little mistakes of execution in each performance prevented it from receiving top scores. Seasons was a dud; the skaters did the best they could with it.

I understand that the ID teams try to make the lifts harder, but that is not a pretty lift.

i'm definitely in the wait-and-see camp. If you based a career on results during one season, then in that theory Hubbell/Donohue in the U.S. looked to be on an upward rise compared to the other new team, Chock and Bates based on 2011 Nationals results. Or heck, if you looked at 2010 Canadian National results, would you have predicted that Weaver and Poje would be the de-facto CAN No. 1 four years later?

:agree: This! Not surprisingly, we're in the same camp, Mrs. P. A lot can happen from one season to the next.

On a different note, I understand that some people don't like how the I/K split supposedly happened. But what I don't understand is the character attacks on Nikita, Elena, Victoria, and Ruslan that continue to drone on endlessly. :disapp: It's one thing to critique their skating, but imo, it's an entirely different ballgame to talk about their character like we personally know them because we hear gossip that may or may not be true.

It is very dangerous, he's dropped her before. not to mention the core strength both of them need to maintain their positions.

For example when katsalapov dropped sinitsina at NHK it just reiterated all his problems.

Nikita's character gets attacked because of things he and Marina say to the media about Elena. He is also good friends with Trankov who started verbally attacking Ruslan on Instagram. Ruslan did nothing to warrant that kind of treatment. I'm sure Nikita had his reasons for wanting to split but I am also sure he is no saint either. He could have put out a respectful statement, thanking Elena for her part on their accomplishments and have been done with it. It's the classy thing to do. Instead He allowed Marina to set up a PR attack on her and her character. To this day Elena and her team have said nothing bad about him or Victoria. I think that's where people become irritated with him.
