Sinitsina/Katsalapov future prospects

Still the only reason I could think of is that Elena might have dumped him for Morozov in a way that wounded Nikita's feelings, which would justify everything that happens afterwards.

She didn't. They split up as a couple long before she got involved with Morozov and for reasons completely unrelated to him, and although it must have been a difficult training situation for Nikita, considering that he had looked for a different partner on previous occasions before they even left Zhulin, it's unlikely that it was his primary motivation. He also wanted to stay with Morozov with Victoria, so I really don't buy the poor broken hearted boy taking his revenge on those who wronged him narrative. It's just that for whatever reason he never found it easy to work with her, ever since they were little kids, and thought he would do better with someone else.

Agree. It seems to me that Nikita has believed that his partnership with Lena would never work out (and he has reasons for that, except for the fact that he's the one who usually made mistakes more than Lena). If Vika is the one he truly wants then he'd better stay with her. I don't think he's gonna change partner at this point.
Because if he changed partner again, I'd say he doesn't know how to cope up with any partnership at all.

As Sinitsina clearly said their reasons for leaving were personal. If they had been publicly respectful though to their partners and left them with even a smidge of dignity they could have made things so much easier for themselves. TBH if you go back to I/K's earlier days before going to Morozov, Lena was always the better of the two. This grated on Nikita's nerves. Morozov ignored her talents and worked on developing Nikita. When Nikita now thinks he was no longer in her shadow he simply dumps her for the type of partner he has always wanted for himself. Payback for her spurning his affections and challenging his authority one two many times. You would have to be blind not to notice that after 2011 there was no love between these two. It had to end and I am glad for it. S/K will be fine, it will just take more time.

Because he couldn't handle the fact that she is the technically more competent partner. He has his flair but technique is his nemesis as we have seen so far. His skating lacks control. He must develop this to become competitive with S.

I don't know if any senior lady who has a reasonable talent and chance to win medals would want to work with him if he does break up with Viktoria.

I don't think anyone imagined them not even medaling at 2013 NHK. Yes they would win Olympic bronze and that's more but teams absolutely need better records to gather momentum to be olympic gold caliber. As gorshkov said an I/k or even b/s with better records should've been able to compete for gold in sochi.

To say I/K should have been able to compete for Sochi gold with 3.5 seasons on the Senior Circuit is wayyyy too ambitious. It's an achievement to be the best of the non-V/M&D/W teams, beating out seasoned competitors like P/B and C/L and B/S.

Ice dance is a discipline where it takes years to be at the top and the only way any team (not just I/K) had even a remote chance of even challenging V/M and D/W is if those two teams had falls.

This is all very true and Needs to be said. S/k were not considered any kind of normal new team. They were considered to be automatically better than all russian teams even b/s. now they are 4th in the nationals and even though b/s have not skated once- considered a lesser team than b/s this season! They were supposed to be I/z. So now they lose in tech score to zahorski/Guerrero?!? This is why "future prospects" of s/k is being discussed. People are saying marina is the probkem- sinitsina is the problem- newness is the problem- Nikita is the problem because he's skating too well for sinitsina?!? That's the most shocking! This team has a strong likelihood to fade into oblivion like it has already in Russian nationals and ice dance ranking. I need to just forget it and the basis of this which was why I/k had the problems it did. I/k is over and done now I/z is here to stay.

This is only because of I/K's success. I think anyone sane knew that S/K and I/Z would have their work cut out for them and wouldn't automatically be the top 2 teams in Russia where several up and coming teams showed promise. I mean, it was new partnerships after all, and ice dancing takes years to build chemistry, and rarely a season. And obviously Marina set expectations high but that's not exactly new for Russian coaches who tell the world that their skaters will be top of the podium -- I mean what did people expect Marina to say, "S/K will try their best to earn a place on the National team"?!

In the very last interview before nationals, that is exactly what she said. She knew exactly what she had in hand.

not only S/K lost to Z/G in the short dance.in fact Z/G had the highest technical base value

I meant, earlier in the season when S/K first formed, Marina wasn't going to say "Oh, well we'll try our best", she's going to say "We're going to win everything".

I was just noting that people are complaining/have complained that Marina was hyping S/K, when that's totally the norm -- like, every Russian coach says (or rather, HAS to say) their skater/team is the best thing since sliced bread. And in ice dance where it's hard to distinguish teams (because most teams go clean), hype is everything to drive that PCS that much higher. As much as we'd love to be in a world where talent/uniqueness/difficulty speaks for itself (and in rare occasions, like Pap/Ciz this season, it can), the reality is that skaters have to be hyped in such a densely competitive environment like Russian ice dance. But hype only goes so far, and in S/K's case, it's limited by Nikita's technique issues and the fact that him and Victoria still have to gel.

I don't know what interviews you've been reading, but in general, Russian coaches to me see to take a pragmatic and open approach in their interviews. Zhulin for example talking about B/S's chances has always been clear that it would be hard for them coming back from Dmitri's injury, that they need a favour from the federation to be on the team for Euros & Worlds, that it's a challenge for them to be able to come straight back and hope to hit all their levels straight away. Kustarova over the summer when talking about I/Z was very clear in this interview http://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/index.php?threads/elena-kustarova-interview.92516/ about the concerns they had about the new team not matching, or losing their impetus after a few months together, and nowhere was she ever saying that they would waltz in and win everything next season. Mozer takes a similar attitude: she was very very frank about the struggles Barazova/Larionov had when they moved to her & had to adjust to new techniques and training in a bigger group.

The only coaches that do the over the top hyping up are TAT about S/B, and Marina with her "fastest, most beautiful, everyone stops and stares whenever they move" gushing over S/K, and if you read the Russian forums, no one takes them seriously.

Looks like they will not skate in Universiade.

Moscow, 7 Jan-r-sports, by Andrew Symonenko.

Russian dance pair Victoria Sinitsina/Nikita Katsalapov can take part in the final of Russian Cup, or in any other start in the second half of the season, told the Agency the "r-sport" President of the Federation of figure skating in Russia (FFKKR), Alexander Gorshkov.

Olympic champion team tournament Katsalapov and World Junior Champion 2012 year Sinitsina, speakers paired in April 2014 years, took fourth place in the Championship of Russia and were not qualified to the national team for the European Championships. Earlier, MEDIA reported that Sinitsina Katsalapov may perform at the Winter Universiade, but Gorshkov told the Agency "p-sport that skaters are not included in the final application."

"Discusses the various options, Gorskov on the phone, answering the question is negative, whether completed for Sinitsina and Katsalapov season. -I was talking to (coach couples) Marina Zueva, we invited them to compete in the final of the cup of Russia. I think this season they still will start, and the question of where exactly the stage of discussion. "

Sinitsina /Katsalapov, competing in the Grand Prix series, took fourth at the Cup of Russia in Moscow and the NHK Trophy-7th in Osaka. At the same time their former partner Elena Ilinykh and Ruslan Žiganšin was fourth at Cup of China, the second in Moscow, made the Grand Prix Final in Barcelona, which occupied the sixth place, and won the Championship of Russia.

The European Championship will be held in Stockholm January 26-February 1, Winter Universiade in Spanish Granada 4-14 February-Russia Cup final, 24-28 February in Birmingham.

Two things. I think both must be students to compete at Universiade, Katsalapov graduated, so he is not a student, and so they are not eligible?

And I suppose it is theoretically possible that they can nab a spot at Worlds by a good result at Russia Cup final, coupled with a bad result by one of the three teams assigned to Euros.

The Russian Cup events are not international and they cannot get the worlds tech minimums there. The teams that skate in this event are those who didn't make Euros. They will need to go to Oberstdorf to get the tech minimum.

I just want Sinitsina/Katsalapov to be named in Worlds team, just to watch russian media, coaches, skaters and fans to explode.:laugh:

Universiade could have been better competition experience for them and of course a chance to get ''sd minimum''. Russian final usually very weak, even teams who didn't make Euros/Worlds chosed not to skate previous years.

They were supposed to be at least I/z. Not any kind of universiade team. Win worlds now to peyongchang.
