Hello! i haven’t been on here in almost two years now but when i had posted about heel pain and slippage in my jackson mystiques many people had told me to look into new skates and that they wouldn’t provide enough support for me. For reference i’m 5’4 and 125lbs and i have african/ egyptian feet and regular arches.

At the time i was working on my waltz jump but now im working on my loop, flip and lutz as well as my sit, camel and backspin. I never ended up upgrading my boots as my coach assured me they would be fine but i skate an hour everyday and i have thick creases on my skates and i have to re tie them every 30 minutes or so because my foot is slipping and today my foot almost fully slipped out of my boot while i was doing a flip.

I was hoping someone could help me either find i good upgrade or tell me where to go get a professional fit. I live in DFW and i haven’t found anywhere. If you also have coach recommendations for the same areas please let me know because i am considering new coaching.

That’s all if you have any advice at all please let me know, Thanks!

Quick hello as I wait for my ride to arrive, but 1) you definitely need new boots. Those are past the end of their lifespan and are dangerous for you to wear. I'm surprised your coach is allowing you to jump in boots that worn out and soft. Sounds like a new coach would be a good idea! (Can't help you with that or a skate shop recommendation, as I'm afraid I don't know the abbreviation "DFW"? I'm in Canada, and can't tell from that where you are.) 2) probably a couple of the Risport models would work for your feet, or Riedell or Graf. You need something much stiffer than the Mystiques for an adult learning jumps. I'm sure others will add more detailed advice to this. Good luck!

Howdy! I am in DFW as well.

The only options you have here is Blades by Todd in North Richland Hills, but many people also venture as far as to Patty at Houston Skate and Sport Orthotics Center.

Were you professionally fitted before?

I ask, because your size could change, if your size is not at Blades by Todd, they require full payment up front prior to them ordering the correct size for you and having you physically try them on. Getting fitted is not free if you do not purchase from them, so have money available for that as well. They will still credit the cost towards your new pair of skates when you decide to purchase from them in the future.

If you have been professionally fitted before, then you can call both Blades by Todd and Houston Skate and Sport Orthotics Center (I do not know her stock or policies) in advance and ask if your size is in stock in other models, especially if you like Jacksons in particular.

For coaching, are you ISI or USFS? What are your goals? Are you a Dallas Figure Skating Club member or are you interested to learn more? We have a show that is open to all Dallas Figure Skating Club members in December in Grapevine.

On October 8 we will learn who our rink representatives are, and I'll come back and let you know who yours is so you can have a hyper-local resource regarding figure skating and the club.

Ok so i’ve never been professionally fitted so i’ll look into blades by todd for sure. I’m not apart of DFSC yet because i just haven’t gotten around to signing up for it but i will be soon so im not necessarily specific on isi or usfs so i could do both. My current rink (Dallas stars mckinney) operates under ISI though. So if you have any coach recommendations Im happy to take them. Thank you so much for your help.

I’m sorry for the delay. I have been under the weather.

I’ll send you a direct message, because I have personal contact information of a couple of people that could help guide you.

So happy to have you in the metroplex!

DFW is the airport code for Dallas Fort Worth. From someone who is on a plane very weak for work.
