Skate with Sarah this weekend! (NOW WITH USFS ARTICLE ON EVENT)

Just a little reminder...if you are in Chicago or Houston, you can go to one of the Marshall's Skatefests featuring Sarah Hughes.

Houston: Sept. 17, Sugar Land Ice & Sports Center, Sugar Land, Texas
Chicago: Sept. 18, Crystal Ice House in Crystal Lake, Ill.

Bumping this up!

- Anyone go to the one in Houston? (I dunno, if I were still there, I might have THOUGHT about going, but most likely not)

- Last chance to see the one in Chicago.

I second the motion for some reports!

I'll let you know how it goes when I get back. I'm a long way from Crystal Lake, so look for The Big Report (haha) late tonight. Right after Sarahskate I have to go skate with my synchro team.
I'm pretty excited.

Bumping this up again!

Anyone else, who went to the Chicago/Houston event, how was it?

Well, guys it was a mob scene! But it was also a lot of fun. There were skaters of all different levels, from people that had to use rental skates to some pretty good skaters with some doubles. They sorted us all into some groups that seemed to include a)can barely skate, b)can skate and do some turns and c)can do some jumps. My daughter was in the first group (even though she can jump a little) and she had such a good time. She was thrilled at the little "official" plastic badge with lanyard and equally thrilled that Sarah took a minute to help her with her waltz jump. Since there were literally 50 or 60 people on the ice at the same time, Sarah's attention was at a premium.
Between my daughter's sessions, and our session we had autographs. No personalization (poor Sarah must have had writer's cramp after this thing; she signed for at least 45 minutes straight). No personalization, but if you said "thank you, Sarah" to her, she'd look up and smile at you. A very gracious young lady indeed.
My session was with the jumpers. Oddly enough, we didn't do any jumps; they divided our 60 person group into spins, spirals and footwork. Sarah did the spirals part of the session (surprise!) and they had lots of coaches out there helping all the other skaters. Some individual attention was paid to each person on the ice at one time or another and it was a great deal of fun.
We left the skating rink tired, but very happy. One of the other skaters I knew complained that "it was a waste of time" but I don't know what she expected; personal lessons with Sarah?????? Hmmmmm.....Maybe I knew better what to expect. It was so much fun and no matter who Marshall's picks to do it next year, I'd do it again.
But I reiterate, Sarah was very sweet and most kind to all the skaters. A great way to spend the day even though I missed seeing my beloved Bears kick Detroit's butt because of it.

Bumping this up (again) to add the accompanying USFS article of the event(s):

ETA: One thing I notice is that there were many more "official" pictures of the Sasha event last year than there were with this one. What's up with that? Or is it just because Sasha is given preferential treatment through some reason or another? (Maybe I'm way off here, but it does strike me as odd.) Then again, maybe after time they'll get more up. I hope so, anyway...

There's also an event in NYC this November, so look for me to dig this thread up from the archives and bump it up close to the event to remind people :)
