Skaters on Team Japan

Has anyone seen Takeru Kataise skate? Any video/documentary featuring him? Seeing his results from recent Kinki Regional and Novice National competitions has made me curious.

Kinki Regional, Novice A Boys: 1st 103.52

Novice National, Novice A Boys: 2nd 95.84 (1st Shun Sato, 3rd Haruya Sasaki) (still waiting on protocols)

Have you seen this? Short videos of the top 3 novice A boys and girls. Takeru's is the 5th one from the top.

ETA:
Forgot to mention that Yuto attempted a 3A in a recent local competition. It was a 3A<< but at least he attempted it.
Sena’s was successful. Koshiro might have attempted a 4S but it became a 3S.
Result:
1. Miyake 2. Shimada 3. Kishina

Thoughts after watching East Japan Sectionals on Friday and Sunday. (http://www.jsfresults.com/National/2016-2017/fs_e/east/index.htm)
I wanted to post yesterday but was dead tired from staying at the rink for 7 hours. I also zoned out a couple of times but just from the little memory I have left…

Sr. Ladies - SP & FS
I wrote about Wakaba on her fan thread.
Haruka Imai - Gosh, I looked at her protocol for the SP and she received 0 points for the stsq. For the FS, I knew she fell 3 times and popped once but she received so many <<<<<<<<<. But she’s going to Nationals so she still has a chance for redemption. My memory of her SP has almost faded but I did like her FS by Camerlengo and she didn’t give up until the end. She wore a pastel green dress in the SP and pink and purple with a tinge of orange for the FS. The falls must have been hard on her, she was trying to keep her balance while skating out of the rink.
Despite the weak field in the East compared to the West, I really enjoyed the senior ladies. Some of them looked good enough to compete internationally if only they had the jumps. Such a shame. Also, there are actually a couple of tall ladies!
Makoto Okazaki was the TS at this event. He is the strict TS from the Ladies event at Nationals 2014.

Sr. Men - FS
Hidetsugu Kamata - still not 100% since the 2 ankle fractures, but some of his triples are back.
Hiroaki Sato - all I remember is “Hey, that’s Javi’s music” (from last season) and he was messy.
Noone really caught my attention except for Ryo Sagami (4th) who looked the most polished and clean but he got some ! and < as well. Yoji Nakano landed the only clean 3A here. Both of Sato’s were messy.
Dice Murakami injured himself in the SP (which I didn't see) and withdrew from the FS. Poor Dice. Get well soon. I wonder if he can get a pass for Nationals since a healthy Dice would have easily won here.
Daichi Miyata also withdrew due to an injury. No Daichi at this year’s Nationals :(

Jr. Ladies - SP
Yuna Aoki - I witnessed a couple of her 3Lz3T during the warm-up. and she didn’t fall on any of them so I was surprised when she fell on the 3Lz and couldn’t even attempt to put a 3T after it. Her 3T looked really awkward though. The rotation looked slow for the 1st and really fast for the 2nd and 3rd so it looked kind of delayed but the landings were not pretty. Probably UR'd too.
Akari Matsubara - I like her. Her Sing Sing Sing SP is choreographed by Akiko Suzuki and it suits her cheerful (I assume) personality. I remember thinking during the warm-up that I don’t like the look of some her jumps (sinks down too much with the knee bend), but forgot about it during the program so maybe it’s less noticeable during competitions. She beat Yuna in the SP and came in 1st overall.
Akari and Yuna’s FS from 0:30.

Jr. Men - FS (last group only)
Unfortunately, I was busy finding a seat and getting settled into it and memory has faded.

Jr/Sr. Pairs - SP
I know nothing about pairs but it was the most exciting part of the competition on the first day. The 6 minute warm-up was the best with 4 teams on the ice.
Narumi Takahashi/Ryo Shibata looked picturesque together. Ryo looks like a wax figurine with his perfect eyebrows and not-a-strand-out-of-place-hair. Their elements were still noticeably weaker compared to the other teams. I don't know if they can catch up since the other teams are younger.
Miu Suzaki/Ryuichi Kihara were a pleasant surprise for me. They skated really well in the SP and I heard they also did well in the FS.
Both the Japanese guys lack the power to throw their partners up high compared to the Canadian guys. The audience was impressed when Francis and Wesley threw Sumire and Marin up so high.
The Jr. Pairs team, Riku Miura/Shoya Ichihashi looked promising (not a disaster) too. I hope they can get more experience at international competitions. Sadly, Ami Koga/Spencer Akira Howe withdrew.

My only regret about not going on the 2nd day was that I missed out on seeing the Pairs FS and a glimpse of Dice before his injury. But I saved myself from seeing him get injured. I also missed out on seeing Nobu who seemed to have sat close to where I did on Friday.
I was excited to see the famous coaches. Nobuo and Kumiko Sato, Shoichiro Tsuzuki, Yutaka Higuchi, Nanami Abe, etc. etc.

Some photos are available on newscom.

Thank you mikaboo for all the information and links in your last two posts! Much appreciated!

Daisuke Murakami pulled out from Cup of China due to injury.
Source (Japanese)
According to AERA magazine released on Monday he has hurt the Lisfranc’s ligament of his right foot.
Hope he will get well soon.

EDIT:I added the link to the article in web version of AERA. The article is about Yuzuru Hanyu, but the writer makes reference to Dice's injury in the mid section.

EDIT 2 (18/11/2016) : Sorry for misinformation (bolded section above.) According to Dice's latest blog post, (http://www.diceskates.com/?p=217) he has insufficiency fracture in the Lisfranc joint of his right foot. He also says he is going to focus on healing now and do his best to get back on the ice as soon as possible.

Hi! Some friends of mine will be vacationing in Japan in December. They want to see Yuzu at the Japanese Figure Skating Championship 2016. Could anyone tell me the official website to buy the tickets? Thank you.

I haven't been up to date with the ticket sales for Nationals this year but any new information should get updated on the JSF website on this page.

The general sales date hasn't been announced yet I don't think. Your friends will probably need an account with Lawson Tickets or Ticket Pia but I heard that you need an address in Japan to register. E-tickets are also available from this year but again, you need a smart phone with a Japanese phone number. Tbh, tickets for Nationals and NHK Trophy are extremely hard to buy, especially for the men's events :(

A longish video of a TV program that covered the West and East Japan Sectionals last night (thanks to the uploader!)
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x51rvdq_東日本-西日本選手権_sport
West - Senior ladies (Saya Ueno, Rin Nitaya, Mariko Kihara), Senior men (Koshin Yamada, Taichi Honda, Shu Nakamura, Sei Kawahara, Ryuju Hino), Ice Dance (Mori/Suzuki, Komatsubara/Koleto, Hirai/De La Asuncion), Junior Ladies (Yuhana Yokoi, Yuna Shiraiwa, Rika Kihira, Marin Honda, Kaori Sakamoto) Junior Men (Koshiro Shimada, Tatsuya Tsuboi, Kazuki Tomono, Yuto Kishina), Jr. Ice Dance (Fukase/Tateno)
East - Senior men (Dice Murakami, Hiroaki Sato, Jun Suzuki, Yoji Nakano), Senior Ladies (Haruka Imai, Wakaba Higuchi, Honoka Hirotani, Pairs (Takahashi/Shibata, Suto/Boudreau-Audet, Suzaki/Kihara, Ono/Killing), Junior Ladies (Akari Matsubara, Yuna Aoki) Junior Men (Shingo Nishiyama), Jr. Pairs (Miura/Ichihashi)

Koshiro looks even more taller than before  I really like the look of Komatsubara/Koleto :) Hope to see them more often next season.

Thanks for the info Wikaboo. They are very excited and eager to see our Yuzuru.

Thank you mikaboo!

BTW, do you know what qualifies a skater to be seeded? I just assumed seeded skaters were the best/top scorers in their divisions. However, I noticed in the video that Yuna S. and Yuhana are seeded but not Marin, Kaori and Rika K. Just curious~

So happy they showed some Ice Dance and Pairs. I've been so anxious to see a bit more of Narumi and Ryo. I can also see what you where saying about the height that Francis and Wesley are able to throw their partners. Must be impressive to see in person.

Taichi Honda's FS costume...:reye:

The seeded skaters are those who podiumed at Nationals and Junior Nationals the previous season (except for when a junior skater turns senior). Wakaba was on the podium for both the junior and senior nationals so she is seeded, Daichi Miyata podiumed at Junior Nats, but he turned senior so he is not seeded. Marin, Kaori and Rika K didn't podium last season.

Taichi Honda's gloves :scratch2:

Thank you mikaboo for the link :thank:

Marin's big "booing" X mark to his brother Taichi (8:20), although he succeeded to get the qualification for the Nationals.

Figure Skate TV always does a good job.

We will be able to see Junior Nationals on November 20 on BS Fuji.

http://www.bsfuji.tv/japanjr/pub/index.html

I heard it would be live, but only 1 hour 55 minutes. I wonder how the contents would be

Edit: I noticed they noted it would be focused on girls FS. Oh, well....:rolleye: Time restriction anyway.

Yeah, it was like that last year too although they did show Sota but it's better than nothing! I hope Mita-san doesn't interview too much

Did anyone watch the Junior Nats on TV? Or in Sapporo? They made a fancy page for it.

Congratulations to Kazuki, Koshiro and Mitsuki!
Every time I see Koshiro now, I think there is something wrong with my TV screen because he looks elongated
Fuji announcer said that Mitsuki pulled a muscle on his right thigh 10 days ago. He looked like he was in a lot of pain at the end of his FS. Congrats for medalling!
Also, it was reported that Sena Miyake changed his coach to Nagamitsu/Honda. He made the change after West Japan Sectionals because he admires Dai. Source

And congratulations to Kaori, YunaS and Marin.
I’m SOOO happy for YunaS and I love her revamped Night Waltz FS and new dress and everything about her today :luv17: 1st in FS, 1st in PCS!
Too bad about Marin’s mistakes but she has many more chances to redeem herself at JGPF, Nationals and probably at Junior Worlds.
Rika Kihira injured her left knee a week ago. She says it’s healed now but I think she might have missed some training time. I hope she gets back into form by JGPF.

The top 6 boys and girls will skate at Senior Nationals. Not sure about ID. I’m sad for a lot of the ladies who missed out but there are just too many of them.

Agree. She may try to whisper not to annoy skaters, but it’s much worse.

This time she had Dai to whisper to :palmf: And she made Marin cry in the interview  and kept on going in an attempt to make her cry even more but Marin is a strong girl so it didn't work. This not only makes it hard for Marin, but makes Kaori and YunaS feel sad too :dev2:

Skaters' tears always break my heart. :dbana:

I'm sad for Rika K. She was favored for the podium but finish quite behind :( I wonder does this mean the one who is going to Junior worlds will be Kaori, Yuna S and Marin? Or they will still hold the selection process? Yuna S international event is not bad at all, but Kaori, Rika K and Marin made JGPF + make the podium on sectionals and regionals, so I wonder if they will take these results into account? :scratch2:
