Skating Pariahs

Tonya Harding!!!

She had so much talent. I actually liked her artistry. But her named forever link with nancy. I liked Tonya's skating but she made bad life choices that she has to live with.

But they didn't work hard enough and gave up too soon. I tend to blame Kyoko Ina for this, because it was the same story with her and Zimmerman. Once again, there was a lot of potential in that pair, but it was as if they couldn't be bothered to really work at it 100 percent. And then they quit just as they were finally starting to get good.

Didn't they "quit" because Kyoko was banned from skating (competing) for 3 years? I remember reading about it in articles/on the boards a while back. IIRC, someone from the US doping agency people turned up on Kyoko's doorstep for an "out of season" doping test. She (according to her) couldn't "go", and asked them if they could do the test in the morning. They agreed, but didn't turn up the next day, and Kyoko later found out that she had been banned for 3 (?) years for refusing a test. So if all that's true, they didn't quit because they "couldn't be bothered to work at it 100%".

They had already planned to quit skating as eligibles. They just had not officially notified the USFSA. She tried to call someone in the organisation and couldn't get through. I suppose, she could have thought- ''To heck with it, I'm quitting anyway.

Michael Weiss gets slammed on every board, but he has some good qualities and keeps coming back. With Todd having moved on and with Timmy injured with "boot problems as well, we have no one else. I think he has made costume faux pas and looks a bit arrogant, but he gets virtually no respect from fans anymore nor the commentators.

Totally agree, Bijoux. He is a three time National champ, plus World medalist twice.......very little respect.....42

ITA about Mike Weiss. Though I never really appreciated his skating until this year's Worlds. I don't know why as he has had decent skates before at Worlds (probably the Henry VIII music in the short) but I never really got into him. I know I'm wrong but I think Mikey has a better shot at an Olympic medal than Weir. Even though Mike is older, he hasn't yet hit his prime and I think he has the goods to be in the top 3.

I think Weiss is at heart a decent guy. It's just a matter of him not thinking of the effect his words will have. IMO, he tries to speak really positively about himself as a way of boosting his self-confidence. [I've found, people with true self-confidence don't have to talk big.] People have a hard time with those who talk and don't deliver. If you are very modest and mess up, people will take you into their hearts and try to encourage you. If you talk big and mess up, you are getting slammed.
