Just wondering if anyone is watching the show. Last night, the dancers were paired up with unknown partners and it was actually a competition. I was just wondering what your opinions are of the contest.

Joe, are you watching???

Dee

I did watch a couple of episodes. I thought the choices were too obviously geared toward who was going to be more exciting for the viewers as opposed to real dance ability.

I've been watching it from the start & much prefer it to "Dancing with the Stars". The latter was too much of a personality contest rather than a dance contest. I think the kids on "Do You Think You Can Dance" have been amazing, learning dances totally different from their specialities. Very impressed with the 2 break dance boys. I've liked both the auditions & the judging better than American Idol, too. And I have no idea who will win but I think it will be a guy.

Here is the site for the show

So You Think You Can Dance

I reall like Artem's dancing and would vote for him. My sympathy vote goes to Alan. For some reason, right now, I don't think any of the girls really stand out and they all look the same.

Dee

Alan looks like Ruben Studdard's twin! lol

who was the pair that the girl was a lyrical modern dancer and the guy was a hip hop dancer and they did the JIVE? They were really good...

I thought the bottom 6 was correct they were the weakest teamwise... the Russian dancer is really cute and really good (as far as I can tell Dance is not my forte) so I think he'll be safe

I think Snow and Alan will go

I think Sandra & Jonnis will be leaving. Toni, the 2 teams I marked down as competing with Jive were: Craig & Melody (last to perform & cute couple) & Jamile & Ashley. They were very good & I think J & A are the pair you referred to in your post. I was glad tho that they weren't eliminating the pair but rather individual dancers.

I don't think these kids just came off the streets. They've been studying dance for some time and more than likely have credits from minor performances.

They too, have many friends and foes, and will vote accordingly.

Joe

I really like Melody, I think that's her name, and really don't think Sandra is anything special, and that her individual performance proved that to me even more so then her performance with the pair. It simply looked like a lot of people would be able to do what she can and that she wasn't particularly unique or extraordinarily talented. Since I live in Canada, I don't think I am able to vote, but I do find the show entertaining. Another bad host though

Agreed. She is soooooooooo stiff

I say, bring Ryan Seacrest in! He should host all American Idol spin offs as well as AI!

I actually like this show more than Dancing With The Stars. I didn't really care of the auditions and preliminary cuts. Also, the judging and voting are understandable vs DWTS.

The 16 finalists were chosen out of thousands who auditioned and then were cut in various rounds. The top finishers were brought to Hollywood where they attended dance classes conducted by 4 (or 5) professionally recogonized choreographers with differing styles - hip hop, ballroom, lyrical, etc. The 'teachers' decided the final 16 based upon their dance capabilities, performance, work ethics and personality.

I enjoy this show because each dancer must perform a partner routine, with a randomly picked partner and a randomly chosen dance style. The bottom 3 pairs are picked by the judges. These 6 people must perform a 45 second solo of their own music selection, style and choreography, which America gets to vote on. The male and female with the lowest votes are eliminated.

I actually 'get' the judging. I know I'm not a dance expert, but I can recognize quality on a side by side basis.

Snow had the lowest appeal factor of the 3 'bottom' girls, IMO. She's very influenced by ballroom, which is her specialty. I just don't see her as being able to learn the other dance styles well. I thought the tap dance girl wasn't good, but changed my mind during the recaps - it seemed as though she had good technique. The 1st of the 3 girls to perform had an acrobotic lyrical style, but it felt to me as though she was loading her 45 seconds with tricks.

I also changed my mind about the bottom 3 guys during the recaps. Initially, I thought Jonnis was all about wriggling and arm flayling. However, the other 2 guys didn't excite me either. I'd be surprised if Alan gets dropped just because I think people will vote for him in an underdog position.

I love this show.........The jive dances where the best part of last week........can't wait for more.....42

Can anyone tell me what happened for the 1st 30 minutes? Got home late.

Dee

I missed the whole show.... but I did catch bits and pieces... I hated that lyrical number that the teams wearing the orange costumes did...

I was on the phone with my best friend so we weren't really paying attention to our TVs

We had our first choir practice last night and I taped it but haven't watched it yet. I had to leave just when they were going to announce the losers. I love to watch dancing so love both shows.

I was disappointed that Alan again picked "hip hop". I wanted to see him do something different. All the dancers were very good last night.

During the 1st 30 minutes they dragged out the reveal. There was a recap of the bottom 3 teams and their solos. Commercial. Then she told Michelle was safe. Commercial. Then she told what's his name that he was safe. Commercial. Then she asked each girl if she deserved to stay and then revealed Sandra was leaviing. They did a recap of Sandra and she did a final solo. Commercial. Then, she revealed Jonnis was gone and he did his solo.

Apparently, the dancers found out the day after the voting who was eliminated. It's really the only way to do this competition since the dancers have to pair off to learn another routine for the week. Apparently, Alan got the most votes and was able to say who he would NOT want to partner with for the week. He chose Snow because he just wants to show that he can dance with different dancers. I think 3 of the couples ended up re-teaming with the same person. Also, Blake and his partner ended up doing lyrical dance AGain. One of the judges mentioned that Alan has gotten lucky with hip hop twice because it is his forte - I can't imagine him doing a lyrical number and think some of the ballroom would be harder for him - like the entwined hands and arms and step throughs.

I think they need to adjust it to so that there's no repartnering until everyone has danced together and that they can't perform the style on back to back week's.

The bottom 3 were a little surprising. I agree with the judge who said Craig's solo might have unfortunately shortened his time on the show - it was the least interesting of the 3 guys. I voted for Nick just because of the way he spins. I'm also not a fan of the acrobatic dancing of Michelle and Melanie (or is it Melody) - just because it's too much like gymnastics.

Heyang, thanks for the recap. I do like it when they dance together more so than a solo. I agree, each week should be a new partner. I was also surprised it was on for 2 hours.

Dee

I love this show, but do not like the way couples are selected for the bottom three. I think it should be individuals, not couples. Snow was gorgeous during the quick-step. She should not be penalized because her partner was not on the same performance level. I don't think any of the guys in the bottom three should be on the "chopping" block this week, especially when someone like Alan, whose a great hip-hopper, but one dimensional as a dancer, is in the clear. 42

I'm guessing that the partnering is important if you're going to be a professional dancer. The guys must present the ladies without being just muscle. The ladies need to counter balance the guys. That's why they really need to have different partners.

What's more unfair is the dance styles. Perhaps it would be better if no one was allowed to perform their partner dance within their own specialty or maybe the other way around where their solos cannot be in their own specialty. Alan, Blake & his partner have all had the benefit of 2 weeks within their specialty.

Is anyone still watching. I just think Artem is great!! I do think that Blake or Nick will win though. Ryan I think has the largest fan base but in my opinion may be going home next week. Ballroom is just not for him.

Joe, you need to give us your opinion.  l:
