Yeah that's pretty much it. She said for new fs she will do program that shows much charisma like yuna's danse macabre and for sp she will do program that shows her feminine side like yuna's scheherazade. Honestly, soft music suits her the best tho.
I personally love her soft music programs, but like her, I think it's time for something different, something strong and tough like Yu-na's Danse Macabre to get into the judges' eyes and receive higher PCS scores. After she gets respect from the judges, it might be a great idea to use soft music like before. But right now, she needs to do something powerful IMO in order to grab the judges' attention and get out of that low 50s PCS zone and up into the higher 50s and maybe even low 60s.
Well, if Rika Hongo was able to do that in just one season, then so can So Youn. I hope she thinks carefully on her music choices.
ERROR 403
cant see it
Yeah. It's extremely possible if she just gets the right programs and stays more consistent.
Rika and So Youn were around the same level in PCS in the beginning of the season, but they diverged ways because Rika had a relatively more powerful, impactful program (Carmen) and was extremely consistent. So Youn just needs to do the same. And the extra bonus that So Youn has that Rika doesn't is that she has no problems with edges or URs. She just needs to land everything.
Anyway, this summer, I hope she works her butt off this summer on her new programs and works on the mental side of things (especially SP nerves).
I think SoYoun's definitely get the "edge" over Rika at the artistic side of figure skating as well. She only needs to be clean.
. I have clearly stated my take of her SP here and there on this board or elsewhere throughout this season.Yes and no. I agree So Youn can offer a very delicate soft skate that is among the best to ever do it but artists can be brash and raw also. So Youn has a natural abilility to blend into very soft music with the best of them. It's great to see of course but for me her Rondo was not very successful simply because she chose a music that required more than what she intended to do. Not that I don't think she is capable but I'm not sure that program was suited for her style of the moment.
A simpler way to say it is that So Youn delivered the heck out of R&J but the contrast in the music is very noticable. I'm not so sure if her skating was from a program to program comparison. YMMV.
Regardless...I hope if she chooses another fiery program she commits to it. I can understand the desire to branch off into new styles. It's just I'm not so sure it should come at the expense of trading off what comes natural.
Regardless of all of that nitpicking.... I'm as excited to see what she does about as much as anyone in the years to come. To me she is just very easy to watch. It's very understated. The risk in that is obviously what hurts her pcs the most. With her lack of emphatic in between stuff (which is fine) comes a microscope on the basic technical elements likes jumps and spins. Fair or not ... A fall can hurt her more than someone who attacks every aspect of skating a bit more aggressively.
Let's just hope for a clean SP and FS next season in the same event. I agree that like everyone else...this is crucial for her scores to rise where we'd like to see them.
Agreed with all of your points here. R&J suited SYs style naturally, but Rondo was a stretch for her. She skated too slowly through a lot of he music and the style was more appropriate for the Swan than Rondo. She lacked ferocity and attack that the music required, especially during the more frenetic parts of the program.
