So-Youn Park

even though she didn't medal in cup of russia..even though people expect her to medal... i think she has the potential to be better.. she has a solid foundation because of her jumps.. now if she can have a solid SP.. then i think it's a good way of climbing to the top..

i'll rather see her slowly getting there than quickly disappear after a fire blazing start.. it's better this way.. so that she can work more of whatever weakness she has...

I really wonder why SP isn't her strength. For most skaters, they usually skate better in SP athen bomb their LP. With So Youn it's the opposite.

well.. i believe one time yuna was asked about how important it is to skate clean.. look at her past competitions.. yuna is always been an SP skater.. she said that SP is not actually that easy as many people think.. the pressure is so high because once you make mistakes the probability of catching up is harder in the lp..

so youn needs to control her nerves.. it's easier said than done.. however if she can somehow work on that.. then she's in good position.. anything can happen in 3 years..

I'm really sad that So Youn could not get a medal in Cup of Russia. But I'm still a big fan of her and really believe in her skating. Umm, what's her next skating competition? Is she going to TEB?

@meoima
Lol idk why either. So far the only time she was able to hit that lutz in the SP was in Sochi and that was when she missed her 3S combo. She did add a 2T at the end of her lutz though.

She really needs to let go of whatevs is in her head. Either they change that lutz into something else or place it differently.

A bit of a lacklustre performance here but I expected it. Not everyone can sort out their problems right away. I think this event is a good lesson for her on what she needs to work on gradually.

Nope. She's done for the GPs. Although it ended in a not-so-good note, she has hope. IMO it's a pretty good debut overall if you consider that she basically came out of nowhere (politics-wise) and had some good showings. You can expect her to go to a Senior B event and 4CC though.

Broke my heart to see her cry after she finished
The Eurosport dude said she has so much more potential than what she showed us and I think so too!
Hope to see her smile at the end at 4CC next year!

I think So Youn's biggest problem, other than her lack of reputation at the moment, is just her confidence. She seemed very nervous at both of her events. When she's calm and relaxed--think Worlds LP and her performances at Yuna's ice show--she really is a joy to watch! Practice and Senior B competitions like someone mentioned earlier can give her the experience she needs to build up her reputation and a confidence-boost. If she can do all of that, I think she'll blossom into something special. She's still young and it's a long time till 2018. :)

I hope so too. I think she will have less pressure at senior B´s. It may calm her down a bit for nationals, I really want her to win nationals this year. She has got the silver medal for four years in a row now! First she was in the shadows of Hae Jin for a log time and when she improved to overtake Hae Jin, Yuna came back and the gold medal was even more out of her reach then ever... (but don´t get me wrong, I was very glad Yuna came back)...

But hopefully that´s So Youns year :cheer::cheer2:

I want to say Chin up girl! Don't worry, be happy! Get mad, get even, simply do better next time.

Super Yuna wasn't born over 1 season, it takes many lessons from the school of hard knocks to become who she is. Beautiful skating, beautiful skater... lots more in store for you yet!

Yes, the early sounds promising. :) I think So Youn can win many senior B with her skate at SA. Senior B has less politiking so that might be good for her to build reputation.

Was So Youn underscored in this event though? I haven't seen the skates yet but it seems like she had the favorite LP for quite a few people...

Well, to be fair she didn't do well in her SP, skated in the early group so she got lower PCS for LP than SA. It's true that PCS is judged base on the skating order. :scowl:

and pogo getting those pcs with that messy skate.. btw i like anna.. she has also the potential.. but her lp was a mess.. and yet... whatever..

just do better in the SP so youn.. built on that!!

Well, I do hope she can gain more confidence in thee senior B competitions.
She is still very young and has so much room to grow. I love her elegance the most. Some other girls can do more difficult jumps than her but it just doesn't look as beautiful when So Youn jumps. Honestly, I don't understand why she gets low PCS considering how beautiful her skating is. She must be feeling a little frustrated with that.

Go So Youn!!

I love So Youn's free program music and dress! She looks so beautiful. I'm glad so many skaters are using the music from the 2013 Romeo and Juliet movie :). I hope she does a clean free program at the World Championships in Shanghai.

I don't understand either. I think it has to do with reputation as well as skating order, as Meioma said. Like, skating order wouldn't matter if she had previously medaled at some GP events or something.

Maybe she needs an international coach like Yu-Na? Would that help with "reputation"?

Yes, international coach surely will help. If not, she will always have to be perfect in the SP, thus the judges will place her in the latter group with higher PCS.
This applied to all skaters. Jason Brown is US's no 1, but he also got low PCS at Cup of Russia for skating early.

For those of you who thought they couldn't see So Youn doing a "sassy" number: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAxxDwH9sHw

Her layback position was also really good back then, what happened? I love her but I kind of wish she would improve her layback position at least a little bit. Also I wish she would hold her spirals longer, like at least here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVqM-FCzHhA (although everyone nowadays has a problem with holding spirals, it is why I now find that spiral sequence with change of edge of Yunas to be so nostalgic).
